I just wanted to let you know how much you've helped me . I didn't know where to start with my studies especially because I had such a long gap between due to finances and also because I'm a single parent running my own businesses. Hustling makes it hard to get time to study. I'm studying through UNISA in South Africa, which is distance studying. Thank you so much❤

I'm currently in school for MFT & I'm about to start my practicum so I figured now is a great time to start studying for the exam & I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the way you explain these theories! It's really making me look at them in a different light! You just made me fall in love with contextual therapy! You just gained a new lifetime follower! Keep doing what you're doing! Words can't describe how hopefully the few videos for yours I've seen so far have been! Thank you so much!🥰

You helped me study for a psychology exam, thanks :3 Btw I'm surprised at how academic and precise your videos are on family therapy (I watched a few models). You basically gave all the informations my university teacher gave in 25mins rather than 2-4 hours, you are very effective and as far as my notes go, you mentionned every important aspect and made them understandable and all, really a great job ! Keep going queen

I recently came across your videos and they have been so helpful for me to understand the family system. I think this model can also be used to understand certain immigration related transnational trauma or historic trauma that people may ignore as the background of a family. But I think these are crucial when shaping people’s behaviors, beliefs, and interactions with the previous and next generation.

Wow 07:01 really spoke volumes for me. It made me reflect back to my personal relationship with my mom and dad. My dad was an alcoholic and I rarely remember him being present but the memories of being with him when I was younger are engraved in my memory because it was so special to me. But unfortunately his alcoholism lead him to commit IPV against my mom which later caused the separation of my parents when I was 5. I never received treatment when I was exposed to IPV which consequently left me having unresolved problems and emotions. Something that also contributed to my unrealistic expectations were being in an invalidating household. There was no room to express my emotions which lead me to crave that emotional attention from my mom even more. Fast forward to my relationships I realized that no matter what my partner does it doesn’t seem quite enough or this feeling of being unsatisfied and wanting more of it. Unfortunately, this leads me to overlook all the efforts that my partner is putting into keeping me happy. I don’t hold any resentment towards my parents because I have come to learn that they are working with what they were taught based on their own phenomena so I don’t blame either of my parents just sad that a lot of my dad’s unresolved issues manifested in many areas of his life. At the end of the day I will always love my parents unconditionally because if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be where I am now. Thank you for giving me that perspective I can now move on to reshaping my thought process and recognizing when my conflicting inner thoughts get in the way of my relationship. ♥️

I feel like I need to work backwards from a lot of these family therapy processes. My family has intergenerational trauma from poverty, sexism, queerphobia, ablism and family/sexual/domestic abuse. I have a lot of mental illness that has caused physical illness but I was put into therapy from a youngish age (15 now 20) and my mother has been a neuroscientist my whole life and went back to uni (college for you Americans) and has become a psychotherapist. The point I am trying to make is that we are both quite knowledgeable on mental health and therapy. For as long as I can remember I have seen the things I was lacking on my ledger as a product of what my mum and our family has gone through and so therefore not allowed myself to be mad at her (I don't just mean expressing it I mean any thoughts around being angry). I'm at a point where I want to be able to just think about myself and what I missed out on without being constantly caught up in being understanding of other people's reasons for this happening. Obviously I don't just decide that everyone is horrible and I hate the world but it is so incredibly freeing to say "I understand why you did this and I don't give a flying fuck. I hate you for putting me through this and transferring your disfuntions to me." in a controlled and self-aware way (Just to myself, not to my mum). Hopefully we will be able to do some family therapy because I'm so tired of just focussing on how I can help myself when I am trapped in an environment that is detrimental to my mental health.
I don't know if anyone else feels this way but my dream is to not have any intimate social relationships with humans. I want to simplify my ledgers after being so pressed by it for so long. I enjoy social relationships but more in a casual sense. People who I hang out with that tied to places, times and activities and that I know are not long term. My hope is to be able to move out at some point and live by myself with a dog (preferably service animal) because extended human contact exacerbates my conditions. My mum also thinks this would be a great idea but money is our biggest barrier.
I have therapy in like 1/2 hr so I'm gonna talk about the stuff I've seen in your vids, thank you for the help.
