Claudine Gay did not ruin Harvard. Harvard did that; she is the symptom of a decline that has been occurring for a long time.

What decline are you talking about? Have you seen Harvard and its medical school? It has a 50 billion dollar endowment. It has more people with noble prizes walking through its hall than any country in the world. I am afraid for your mental state of being and your understanding of what the word decline means. It has never been richer or made greater medical breakthroughs in history. You are writing nonsense.

After Harvard lost its lawsuit brought by Asian students, the truth about undergraduate admissions was laid out: over 40% of white students were admitted on other criteria than academic merit. Legacies, major donors, athletes, and "special development" are the reasons. An outstanding athlete or a gifted actor or musician has merit in my eyes, but those are not academic criteria.

Enough blame to go around on this one. 1. Harvard's faculty and board for hiring Gay. Her list of publications was nothing short of lackluster for a university president. 2. Harvard's commitment to DEI and not academic excellence. 3. Harvard's willingness to look the other way to protect Gay from critics and try to use the race and victim cards (overused by now across the US). 4. Gay herself has done huge harm to Harvard----first by plagiarizing and then by refusing to admit that she violated academic honesty codes of conduct. She has shown no remorse over what she did-----and I have a sneaking suspicion she will continue to plagiarize because she has a gaggle of willing defenders who have made her resignation about race and not about academic honesty. 5. Harvard has opened a huge Pandora's box of problems by retaining Gay in a $900,000 faculty position. What message does that send to students? to faculty? What message does that send about the relevance of Harvard's code of academic honesty? Will Harvard now have to accept plagiarism and cheating as acceptable since one of their own faculty members is a plagiarist? More questions will be forthcoming as the media and critics continue to examine Gay's publications and Harvard's actions.

Twice in applying to doctoral programs, I was told I was the favored candidate, but edicts from the administration were that women were to fill these slots. I had a similar experience when applying for university positions. This occurred in the late 80s and early 90s. Had there been a superior or comparable female candidate, the choice would matter little to those particular schools, programs, and disciplines. But since the edict was to choose a female candidate/PhD, the selectors would go as far down the list as needed to find someone who fit the bill. The reward/punishment system was set up now not to select someone who could advance the reputation of a program or school, or to advance a field of study, but one that would change society. Thirty + years of that process created Claudine Gay. If one were to compare her academic or administrative accomplishments to the entirety of any major university faculty, she would be in the lower 5%. But if the selection criteria is to select a black woman, she fits the bill.
One other comment, black candidates who would be qualified were not evaluated because they were not pushing a DEI/CRT agenda. In my academic and professional career, I have worked with countless formidable black professors and administrators, none of whom would ever play the victim card as did Gray. Any of them would have been a far better choice to lead Harvard than a dishonest researcher who does not understand that there is no context in which advocating genocide on campus is not violating Harvard's policies.

    • @QuadriviumNumbers
      @QuadriviumNumbers 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Absolutely! People quickly lapse into trite anti-black commentary but there is clearly a greater process in operation. Women are the main beneficiaries of affirmative action policies by a large margin and white women top that list. White women have literally been placed into top positions previously held by men across the board for many years. This is what female entitlement looks like and the narrative is deftly and predictably circumventing this obvious reality.
I'm not in any way justifying her plagiarism/academic fraud or indeed her shockingly irresponsible anti semitic views, but this is definitely a case of the current "girls on top" hegemony coming to roost.
The #believeallwomen movement has been proven to be an absolute misnomer every day since its inception.

Sadly, this is not entirely true.
Harvard has enough credibility to have attracted and retained some of the greatest minds in the world amongst its academic staff.
The first problem is that most of these minds are concentrated in either:
~ professional disciplines (such as medicine, engineering and law) where the practising profession demands minimum standards of academic rigour, or
~ the elite sciences (eg., physics, mathematics, biochemistry) where a person with Claudine Gay’s IQ could not hope to achieve a pass mark with all the DEI “helping hands” in the world, including a licence to commit plagiarism unchecked.
The second (and related) problem is that these great minds are busy doing things that nobody else could possibly do. They therefore have no time to engage in the ass-licking and woke pretentiousness which is essential for advancement to the highest tiers of academic administration. And, even if they did have the time, most would find it both morally and personally repugnant.

Her father worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and her mother was a nurse.
How they found the money for her to attend Phillips Exeter Academy, a private boarding school in Exeter, New Hampshire, DEI scholarships?
    The cost in 1985 $11,000, today $63,000.

Gay never learned her lesson. Others are using 'racism' as their talking points and are failing. If I were Harvard College, I'd sue her for slander thereby forcing her in a public venue to prove her 'racism' accusations against Harvard. Failure to do so will, of course, result in Gay paying a steep fine, possibly going to jail and most likely losing her teaching license. But, she opened that door with her written statement siting 'racism' as part of the reason for her dismissal. Time for accountability. Sue her, Harvard, and redeem yourself and set a precedence going forward for everyone else ever slandered via misuse of that word.#
