With the old school What If-? comics you basically knew that if Peter showed up he was going to meet a bad end. I think they even eventually brought up the universe where he became part of the Fantastic Four (and had a relatively happy life) in a later issue to screw it up. One of the only ones that worked out well is when he kept the Captain Universe power for too long, and almost went nuts/lost himself… but ended up pulling it back together at the end.

His dad instilled in brock a very similar philosophy to uncle Ben’s about power and responsibility. Brock wanted to be a hero and a person who saves lives. While working for a rival newspaper company (not the daily bugle) he is tracking down a killer called “the sin eater”. Eddie believes he had the killers true identity solved and he published the persons name and pictures of them in the newspaper the very same day Spider-Man catches the sin eater who was the person Eddie wrongfully accused next door neighbor. Eddie was close but he fingered the wrong guy and because Peter Parker wrote the story and proved Eddie wrong Eddie got fired. He lost his job, and his apartment and his gf left him for being so careless. His father disowned him for almost ruining someone’s life and then he was diagnosed with cancer. Eddie lost his reputation, his job, his home, his girlfriend, his family, and he was going to die soon. At the church he doesn’t pray to get even. He prays to god to kill Peter Parker not Spider-Man, Peter ruined his life. The symbiote gave him the power to take everything from Peter that Peter took from him and also cured his cancer
The saddest thing here is that the Peter from the main universe would have gladly taken the place of this disturbing version of him in order to live in a reality in which he saved Gwen in the end. Poor Pete 😔

Now the spiders having his consciousness, they have all his memories, emotions, feelings and desires. And one of that desire is the desire to become human. So despite technically never being human in the first place, the spiders think as if they are Peter but in reality it's just his soul living within their interconnected hive mind. This is why I love fiction especially comics, movies and novels. They give such interesting concepts especially within the science fiction genre. There's also a philosophical element which makes it even more captivating. It makes you think, if Peter died but his soul lives on within this mass of spiders, is it still really Peter. He has an exact copy of the original Peter's personality and his friends and family like Gwen still considers him as "Peter". But is it really Peter, or does it even matter to ask that question. As long as his soul lives within this new being, Peter still lives on until the heartbreaking end where he sacrifices himself for the good of others. This new being still did what the original Peter would have done. Peter has always been selfless, and he always would have prioritized the wellbeing of others before himself. In the end, this being sacrificed itself, something the original Peter would have done as well.
