Okay I have genuinely only known about Super Mario Bros CD for like, 40 minutes if we want to be accurate with the timing, but I can already tell that you all are putting SO SO much love into this project, and the second I saw the first trailer, I needed to find a full version of the beach level track- Thank you and the rest of the team for making something that's already so amazing!!-

This song has such dream world esque feel to it. Like it almost makes you feel like your traveling a world made of relaxing memories from your past, but with a wonderworld twist to them. You did an outstanding job on this track!

To iterate on the previous comment, the MSU-1 is an era-accurate hypothetical chip implementation that could have been used with a CD add-on. It is not something that was ever produced back then. This is essentially a software-created fake chip that allows games to get CD-quality sound or video patched in.

It works absolutely brilliantly on real hardware and I implore you to get one if you're into real hardware. The FPGA on the flashcart can also handle nearly every official SNES enhancement chip, aside from the SPC7110, ST011 and ST018 (latter two were 32-bit processors to handle AI in shogi titles, former was a Hudson Soft chip used in three games).
adding onto the comments below by saying you actually can get near cd quality on the snes even without the msu-1 or similar expansion chip by writing sample data directly into the echo buffer, it just wastes way too much bandwidth and rom space to be worth it for actual games. theres a really good demo of this by blargg you can find online though, with about a minutes worth of stereo 32khz audio coming directly out of the spc700

this is really good. i actually ended up writing an msu-1 pcm player pretty much just to listen to this with the proper loop point
