  • Sciatic nerve pain can be debilitating and excruciating. Any one movement could send an electric shock down your leg. This is an all too common problem with estimates ranging from10 to 40% of people experience sciatica at some time in their life. Even if this estimate is not accurate it is saying that this is an all to common problem affecting people all over the world.
Sciatica is not a condition in itself but a very uncomfortable symptom of many issues that affect the back, pelvis, and hip. It results from the irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back to the toes.
People with sciatica often experience pain that runs through the buttocks and down the back of the leg.
The pain can vary from mild to severe to a point people can have difficulty standing, sitting, or even sleeping. A range of treatments is available for sciatica, including stretches that may help ease the pain.
Common causes of sciatica can include:
    - Disc buldge
    - Nerve root irritation
    - a ruptured disk
    - Spinal stenosis or narrowing of the spine canal
Sciatic pain can also happen due to a condition called piriformis syndrome. Your piriformis muscle extends from your buttocks at the edge of your spine all the way to the top of your thigh. Sometimes tightness of this muscle can put pressure on the sciatic nerve causing sciatic symptoms.
Using nerve gliders and tensioners may be useful in relieving associated symptoms with these. Here are a few progressions (tip: start with a nerve glider before progressing to variations of nerve tensioners)
    • Nerve glider
    • Nerve tensioner
    • Nerve tensioner (lower limb bias)
    • Nerve tensioner (lower limb bias - advanced)
