Don't dig into the League lore! You will have a better experience with the show by not knowing who are characters from the game. The show is very good about making sure you don't need to know any of the lore to enjoy it.
I love that we're all on the same page about this. It's a different experience knowing the lore, but not an improved experience. There are only a couple of things I can think of where you get a little additional meaning, but compared to the things the lore can spoil it's SOOO not worth it.
100% agree! I just watched it for the first time a couple months ago and I knew nothing about it going in. I'm so glad I didn't look anything up, because I think going in blind was the best experience by far. I'm not normally one to get obsessed over shows or movies, but Arcane is just different. Even after two months I still feel like I just finished watching it for the first time 5 minutes ago. It's insanely good! Depending on how they wrap up the next (and final 😭) season, this could be my favorite show of all time.
@@basicwitgirl Yeah, I didn't know anything about it and saw reactors at the time who'd say stuff like, "I've played LoL for ten years and I still don't know any lore about it." Apparently, it's not that kind of story-based game. In fact, I've never come across anyone who's played it that knew the things revealed in here accept for seeing certain playable characters. That knowledge doesn't give them an advantage about understanding what the story is telling though. Those who did play it, many times, said they were addicted to it for a while. 😁
Its been nearly 3 years since the first season came out and I still regularly play several songs from their soundtrack. Their music was so phenomenal in the first season and we have an entire soundtrack for season 2 that I cant wait to hear either!
yes! Riot games ( the producer of League of Legends and Arcane) dont flag videos on websites. They rather encourage people to share and comment on their works, its called free marketing. But yeah all of their songs are good except for Imagine Dragons enemy song as their record label is very picky and will flag stuff on here.
The sound design alone for this show actually won several awards, let alone the writing and animation and whatnot. There's actually a really good behind the scenes mini-series about the making of the show called Bridging the Rift, and it has a whole section dedicated to just the sound effects team
@@basicwitgirl yes its a really good watch. Its 5 episodes long and it tells their story of how it took 6 years to make the first season of arcane. Its really well done, its engaging, interesting, funny, sad. So yeah please watch that when you get a chance after watching this first season. It will make you appreciate the hard work they clearly put into making this series.
That was so good Basic! This show is a masterpiece in all areas. The writing, acting, animation and even the music are all TOP TIER. I'm so glad you choose to react to this show. Can't wait to see the next one!
One great thing about this show is that you don't need a whole bunch of prior knowledge to understand the story. There are easter eggs to aspects of the world of Runeterra, but this series is such a complete story that you really don't need to know the rest. However, some handy lore is that the twin cities of Piltover and Zaun are the most advanced location in the entire world, and the cities are located on an isthmus between two continents, making it a trading hub. The rest of the world is a lot less technologically advanced, and there is a lot of elements that feel very medieval by comparison. So while you should probably not look at lore about the characters, bringing up a map of the world can be helpful.
Absolutely ADORE this show!!! Watching it without knowing the game or lore is the BEST way to watch Arcane, but be prepared for people in the comments to overexplain the motivations of characters before they've actually been revealed in the show lol I've seen a few reactions to it, and while folks might avoid spoiling events, they will spoil character info that is meant to be mysterious for a while 😅
@@aranthur I agree. I know enough about League to know that it’s not for me. But the show, is simply amazing. It’s one of only two shows (the other being Firefly) I’ve seen that can reasonably make the claim that they’ve batted .1000 for its entire run.
The VA for Grayson you were trying to think of, was Shoreh Agadashloo. I fully agree she's great. I was pleasantly surprised to see her in this. Just shows she's got great taste in roles.
Such a ridiculously good show! I'd definitely have some tissues on standby though, it'll make you feel things! You don't need to worry about copyright - Riot is famously chill about reaction videos. Only the Imagine Dragons track causes any problems. But all the songs the were written specifically for the show that's why it all works so well. It's well worth watching the 5-part making-of documentary 'Bridging the Rift' once you've finished the series.
A fun fact, the voice actress who voiced Powder was 11-12 years old at the time of recording and this was her first voice acting gig too. She is a huge part of why this show is so good!
@@basicwitgirl She started off in theater, so she definitely has great acting chops. In fact, looking her up again I just saw that she was one of the three rotating leads for the US tour of Tim Minchin's play Matilda. I'm a big fan of Tim Minchin and I knew he wrote a play (I'm not really into theater though and I haven't seen it), so it's cool that Powder was one of the leads for the US tour.
I went in completely blind into this show and loved it -- it is better to have a copy of the episodes downloaded rather than watch on Netflix as they show spoilers and don't even let the end credits roll. The endings hit so hard it is good to let the credit music roll and just let it sink in rather than have Netflix jumping to the next episode with thumbnails showing you spoilers of what is about to happen! While I had Netflix, I watched it as a whole downloaded series and it was epic, such an incredible feeling every time the end credits roll and you just sit there like "holy crap..."
Watching pretty people watch 'Arcane' is kinda my jam :) Don't worry about League lore - it's much better to go into this show blind. The show tells you all you need to know. Reacting to 'Arcane' is usually a nice signal boost for your channel too.
Vi and Powder`s biological parents were the black haired dude with the frying pan helmet and the blue haired chick lying dead on the bridge at the beginning. Of course, much like "Supernatural" one of the themes of "Arcane" is whether or not you are blood related isn`t as important to family as love and loyalty and other factors.
Vander's little speech to Mylo about not coming home without some treasure/loot only enforces Mylo's increasing distain for Powder's lack of abilities. As I see it Season 1 is more of a prequel (sort of) to the video games, so don't get upset if you aren't familiar with the characters.
"Did this have to start off so sad?" HAHAHAHA... hahaha... haaaaaa... ha... Yeah, that's not a bug, it's a feature for the creators of this show. Mind you, they will do that in the most satisfying ways possible, but... yeah. This show is an exquisitely crafted tragedy. One thing I will say is that... people tend to idealize Powder, and... overlook the fact that her intention in this episode was to defend herself from a street thug with a nail bomb. It was only not horrific and gruesome because it didn't work... but the intention was 100% there. Just... never lose sight of that, going forward.
Also, as someone who's played League for some 14 odd years, to me, having all that background information didn't matter much when I watched the show for the first time, cuz they went in a completely different direction with Arcane, anyway. Sure, it uses some of the ingame locations and characters, but their stories are all vastly different - so much so that fans couldn't agree on what was and wasn't canon for a long time. Now that they've decided Arcane's story is basically going to overwrite the ingame lore, though, all that's changed, of cours€.
Just be patient with the lore as many have said. I'm sure after season 2, nothing will be able to stop you from doing a deep dive, there is plenty there to enjoy, and I'm sure someone can give you a spoiler free list so you can catch up on some of the shorts and music videos they released while waiting. Also when you're done with season one, do check out the Bridging the Rift documentary... it's honestly just as interesting somehow as the series itself. Just an incredible story all around. There are pros and cons to knowing or not knowing. Not knowing is kinda like watching the SW prequels without having seen the original trilogy. Don't know how far ahead in the series you are from your uploads, but there's a music video for Imagine Dragons "Enemy" that was done by the same animation studio, containing additional scenes not in the series itself.
