When I was being admitted last week, due to severe Gastroparesis (unable to eat, couldn’t drink much by then, lethargy, slow heartbeat, high blood pressure), once a doctor saw me, one of his first questions was “Hello, how are you doing today?” If you respond with sarcasm, or humor, he may not think you’re as sick as you potentially are. I was too weak at the time to do so.
My03Tundra Sometimes the joking is a coping mechanism for some. Sorry to hear about the gastroparesis. That is no joke. Little tip is to avoid food high in fat for a while. It will help you void a bit easier. And smaller portions. And get lots of fluids! Also if your diabetic, which a lot of gastroparesis patients are since it affects the nerves in the stomach, get that sugar under control and you’ll have an easier recovery.
chris johnson Thank you for your concern, it is appreciated. I’m not diabetic, and the only time my sugar runs high, is when physically under stress. Such as being in the hospital, like from 4/26 to 5/3. When in the hospital, my potassium also tends to drop, too. Once I’m able to eat again (I’m on a PEG-J feeding tube), I have a Gastroparesis specific cookbook scheduled for delivery later today. As for the man in the video, I remember my Dad in 1996 when he had a big heart scare, and had a five artery bypass. That was scary for the family.
I think your survival instincts kick in. You realize that if you don’t chill the fuck out you may increase the chance of dying. I think that may be what this gentleman was doing?
Incredibly lucky for the staff, but the government are doing their best to head us towards a US style private system. Things will be very different then. Only those that can afford top insurance or the super rich will get good health care. It’s incredibly sad. If somethings not done in the next couple of years it’ll be to late.

My Dad had a massive heart attack around 10 years ago, they call the type of heart attack that he had - the widow maker. Dad was 55 and his Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncles all died of massive heart attacks at 55. Luckily my Dad lives very close to the hospital and he had a clot busting injection, followed by a triple bypass - it should have been a quadruple bypass but the fourth artery wasn't good enough to be used. So he had another heart attack, followed by a stent. Ten years on my Dad is fitter and healthier looking than he was at 55! I'm so grateful to our NHS!
@@SepherStar Thank you for your kind concern - my brothers and I were all advised to be checked over as the heart condition that caused my Dad’s heart attack is genetic - I have had several ecg's and I (and my brothers) will have to have regular checks on my heart once I reach 40. Oddly enough, there is also a clotting disorder on my Mothers side (My Mum, 4 Uncles and my Grandfather all had either thrombosis or pulmonary embolism- causing 4 of my Uncles to die and my Grandfather ) They haven't identified the gene involved in the clotting but having studied the blood of multiple members of our family they decided it was a genetic clotting disorder - that they have yet to discover the gene responsible. Our blood is very thick (I had to be on blood-thinning injections twice a day throughout both my pregnancies and was under the care of the head of haematology alongside my obtetrician)
My grandfather was about 80 when he had his ‘widow maker’ heart attack a year or two back. He got up from a chair, felt a bit weird but was well enough after to go about his day. He didn’t know about the attack until weeks later. He had stents put in, no bypasses at his age. We were very fortunate to have more time with him. He died several weeks ago, not of a heart attack but from dementia (Parkinson’s brought that on) and old age. So good on your dad for getting through it and making a change! Don’t take life for granted! I’d recommend you get checks done once a year when you reach 50; calcium-score tests, full blood works, heart fitness test etc, just so you know if you need to take action before it’s too late. I had a heart attack back in January of 2011. I can't describe the pain. Imagine ten elephants sitting on your chest and 100 more elephants balances on top of those elephants and it's a bit close. The cardiologist said it was the worst one he had seen in 30 years and said it was the killer. He said nearly 100 percent of all people that have heart attacks of that severity die. I remember thinking I was about to pass out about a dozen times but I fought like Hell to stay conscious. I knew if I closed my eyes I was a goner. So I focused myself until the ambulance came and stayed focused until I was in the hospital right up until they sliced me in the groin area to insert the tool that goes into the main artery to open the blockage and inserts the stent. It was Hell. I ended up staying in the hospital for two weeks. I eat/ate well, I don't smoke(Never have) and I only drank after work on Fridays. I do have type 1 diabetes tho and heart disease is a major complication of T1 diabetes of course. In the end I won(this time). So take that, heart! *me punches heart* I am glad to see that you are alive and well Steve!
It's called the Widow Maker. I'm glad you pulled through you must have had a cardiologist on hand. Cut out red meat and exercise regularly. Drink warm lemon and honey first thing in the morning. Apple cider vinegar before bed. That's a holistic approach. Meds can only do so much.
I was 33 yrs old when I had my heart attack, no TPA then, it took 45 minutes to resusitate me, but, I lost twenty percent of the heart muscle, glad to be here 36 yrs later!!!
My brother wasn't feeling well over the weekend. On Monday morning when he arrived at the hospital (driven by his son), he couldn't get himself out of the car. That is when he had the heart attack. Best place to be! He survived!
Sounds like what to my husband when he had his first heart attack. Home having horrible chest pain and chewing tums like mad with no relief and I finally got him in the car and drove him to the hospital and got to the ER and they came out with a wheelchair and took him into a room and wham he had the heart attack. He was only 37

And she required "stints" due to blockages! I found this to be unbelievable! I now understand there are several teenagers who have attacks due to blockages! It's in the genes for these lads!
I had two heart attacks one on a Sunday morning and the other the following Saturday. Not one of the typical signs but that first one, somehow I knew I was having a heart attack. I told 911, "I think I'm having a heart attack."" Got up from the chair and unlocked the door so the Paramedics could get in. At the hospital, when the doc told me, "Well, you're having a heart attack." I cried. That realization of Im getting old, and things are bound to start happening is scary that first time. Im fine now and have no fear of death.
I don’t think that age has anything to do with having a heart attack. Knew this guy who had his first heart attack when he was 21 years old! Glad that you don’t fear death. Sometimes it’s the things in life that you fear! Take care.

Then that Sunday morning, I was sitting there enjoying my coffee, got up to get another cup and felt like I was gonna faint. I had a heart attack two years ago , four cardiac arrests fortunately in front of the paramedics, when they found the blockage in the cath lab they said it was tiny but could have been fatal, three days in cardiac care and I was as good as new, these people amaze me 💗
If you are experiencing signs and symptoms of a heart attack, while waiting for an ambulance which must call, it may help to chew and then swallow a tablet of aspirin (ideally 300mg), as long as you are not allergic to aspirin. Aspirin helps to thin the blood and improves blood flow to the heart. I always carry aspirin it could save my life or others.

I was stented; left anterior descending artery blocked 100%. Widow maker. As soon as the stent was placed, the pain was gone and I felt perfectly fine...no restrictions...And that was ten years ago.
I found it odd that he wasnt offered a stent instead of thrombolysis treatment, as that is the preferential treatment according to NHS, NICE and ESC guidelines. It could be that this hospital wasn't a PCI Centre (where they insert stents) and he was too far from a hospital that provides that service. Thrombolysis isnt as effective, carries more risks and is administered as a plan B, with patients often requiring stenting later anyway. Hope you're better Frank 😉. An LAD blockage is one of the most dangerous STEMIs (heart attacks), and with a "Widow Maker" pattern, you were very lucky to make it. We also call it "Tombstone". Awful, i know. Watch out for any complications and hope you're following your rehab programme 😀👍
Widow maker is an occluded Left Main artery (which branches into the LAD and another artery, both supplying the front half of the heart). If this is what you had, you are fortunate to be alive!

I agree what the Dr said about heart attacks 30 yers ago, my dad had 6 attacks from 21.30 to 23.45. And died. First one at home the rest in hospital, no drugs not even ICU, died alone even though were in the room next door

I was on duty mid into my career in a hospital. My patient was exhibiting signs of a stroke right before she was to transfer for a scheduled procedure. Was so elated to learn my actions saved her from having an acute stroke. TPA is a wonderful thing! 👍🏼

Interesting to see how medical care has changed too. I'm being taught to get the patient a stent asap these days, and only use tpa if we can't get them to a hospital with a cardiac unit within 2 hrs!
Well stenting does not cause cerebral haemorrhages and is generally alot better tolerated. More people can benefit from it with fewer risks. It's quick enough, it's effective, so of course you would prefer it as the first line treatment
@Amy Tinsky the stent is inserted peripherally. The clot can be aspirated. The stents can be Drug eluting (meaning they release drugs) 5o prevent further clots. Kind of like greasing a pipe.. Actually that was a bad analogy. Anyway PCI has been a game hanger for these type of heart attacks... if you can get to a cath lab in time.
I don’t remember much but I remember my grandad and auntie having a heart attack in the same house at the same time. My grandad started having a heart attack upstairs first then 10 minutes later my auntie downstairs on the sofa while one ambulance was on the way we had to then ring for a second ambulance. It was the most horrific day I have heard and known about. My grandad survived and is doing really well but my auntie unfortunately passed away a couple of days later 👼🏻 Hope you are okay I can’t imagine the feeling and how you must of felt

I dunno about the UK but here in Australia paramedics can also give the thrombolysis on the road before even reaching hospital. They have to meet alot of criteria but doing this before even reaching hospital potentially saves alot of lives
Women's heart attack symptoms are typically different and more subtle. Men and women should know the different symptoms and act immediately. Glad you came through it Ok!!
Zebracorn 46 my mom was a nurse. She was having a heart attack (she was obviously familiar 2ith the symtoms) and they sent her home. Said she wasn't in enough pain. She had 3 more small attacks in 2 days. They finally admitted her and inserted a stent. It's sad that, in 2018, most of the health studies are STILL based on 50 year old white men

I'm an RN and I remember when I was a student doing a clinical placement in the ER, we had a female patient come through triage with her only complaint being 'I don't feel right'. No specific symptoms, no pain. We eventually did an ECG that showed she was having a heart attack. Symptoms of a heart attack can be incredibly vague in women
Megan Robinson I always felt a sense of dread when a woman, especially an older woman, came in saying "I just don't feel right." Once a patient coded while I was in Triage. Very pleasant, older woman. She sat down and I began to triage her. She said she felt silly for coming in but just felt so strange she didn't know what else to do. Then she coded. Listen to your body and instincts folks!!
Yes, Nancy, the nurses in this video showed great compassion. But I received identical treatment from the ER nurses here in Philadelphia (USA) when I suffered a heart attack last year. Gentleness, sweetness and saying supportive and kind words are human behaviors that can be found throughout the world, regardless of one's nationality. Be well.

I'm 39 and I smoked since 14. please pray I can see my 12 year old off to a good life. heart attacks scare me. losing control of your life process in the face of possible death and there is nothing you can do about it is the scariest shiet ever. Hey you doing with the smoking mate?! 1 in two weeks is brill. I downloaded an app thing to my tablet to count the days. That tablet broke and i lost the app but I was over a yeae and a half without a cig. Granted I puff on a little nicotine pen to help the cravings but that will be going now to.
I changed my ways since this last December of 2020 when I had a heart attack in my sleep. It woke me up . I dreamt I was having a heart attack and surprise! I was in such a hurry to go to the hospital I called 911 and was at the door when they got there. The pressure on my chest was intense but I had a mission to get to that hospital as soon as I could. A catheterization showed I had 2 completely blocked arteries and they put the stents in. 2 months later I had an ablation on my heart done. Three months later I got a Watchman put in to catch clots so I don't have to be on blood thinner the rest of my life I've been overhauled and I'm ready to go LOL! Maybe not good for another hundred thousand but at least a few more. I'm already 72 so...

I turn 35 on Wednesday and I’m always afraid I’ll have a heart attack one of these days, or even worse sudden cardiac arrest. I don’t smoke or drink though, and I exercise and eat pretty healthy most of the time. The older I get the more nervous it makes me.
If you have had family with ischemic heart disease or strokes/heart attacks, or high blood pressure/diabetes it is worth checking in with your doctor. If your family history is clean, and you don't live an excessively stressful life, the fear is pointless. You should however, start getting regular check-ups as soon as you turn 50
Shattered a knee, transferred to a regional medical center for reconstructive surgery, first thing the surgeon asked me on admittance was "Do you smoke?", to which I said yes (about 30 a day). He said if I wanted him him to repair my knee I'd have to quit. 25 years smoke free, zero regrets. We all get our wake-up calls in different ways. Good on you, and good luck!
I was a paramedic for many years and one thing that is a bit less scary then someone having a heart attack is when they administer the thrombolytic and then have you transport them to another hospital. If they had not started reperfusion prior to taking them to the higher level of care hospital, there is a good chance it's going to happen in the ambulance. When it does, it can cause some funky rhythms that is normally treated but I was taught to give it time to allow for the heart to take care of itself. It was difficult to watch but I had the Doc on the phone and telling him what rhythms were showing. The individual made a full recovery with little damage thanks to that medication. Gotta love people smarter then me. Lol

I quit smoking for three years, but started up again after the man I was with for over 15 years cheated on me multiple times, and then 2 weeks later my mother passed away. I remember, as a kid, my Granddad having several heart attacks over several years at around 70. Each time I thought it would kill him. He lived to over 90 in pretty good health, walked, danced and if anything was healthier than before the HA. It was a hospital infection that got him in the end.
Heart attacks are so avoidable and it is a mystery to me that it is being still promoted by the food and drug industry as well as chosen as a "cool path" by young people (smoking, drinking, devouring junk food).
Iv had a major stroke I threw a clot and they gave me that same meds before they gave it my husband had to sign papers giving them permission to do so. They said it would either save me or kill me two weeks in ICU another two weeks in the steep down room and on to home long road to recovery thankfully it worked.
Steve you had your heart attck 10 months after I had mine (25/01/05), only you got superior immediate care than I did. It took the wallies at my hospital in Ireland about 16 hours to diagnose me despite my howls of pain the entire night. A nurse even yelled at me to shut up because I was annoying. Yup. Doctors are so calm. My 1 week old daughter was admitted to emergency on New Year’s Day and was hooked up to a whole bunch of wires and monitors in a matter of minutes as if they were just going about their business. Turns out she had an undiagnosed hole in her heart that they didn’t catch at three maternity ward.
I quit smoking a year and a half ago, just before surgery for cervical cancer and a tumor. I quit VAPING 3 months ago and don't miss either one bit. I have heart disease, COPD, type II diabetes, high BP, high cholesterol and a handful of smaller problems. Oh..., let's also NOT forget I live in Florida, U.S.A. - Current epicenter of COVID - Delta variant... Do I miss smoking? Not really..., I have scarier problems right outside my front door!!! Blessings to all of you who have quit or are REALLY giving it your best effort to quit!!!
great you made it and took care of yourself by stopping smoking etc. some medical input: thrombolysis would not be a state of the art therapy anymore today.
Same thing happened to me. Had a heart attack due to blood clots. Was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital and was resuscitated. Eventually spent 6 months on warfarin. Its a crazy drug, bled internally a few times. It was a long long 6 months of recovery
One thing is for sure. I'm suffering from a general anxiety disorder, I'm 48, no smoking, no sugar, no fast food and regularly active. I do get the occasional PVC and just that is enough to send me into the worst distress ever. I always said, and I'm serious, that if my heart stops i do not wanna be reanimated because my life if I survive a heart attack would even be more miserable than it is now. I'd be scared to die every second like I am already, while I'm not even sick. It is my worst fear ever, nothing beats that. Cardiophobia, as they call it. If i drop, i want them to let me go. Same if i had cancer, i don't wanna get any chemo. Just enjoy the time left until it's time to ask for assisted dying. But i'm alive today, never know when it's gonna happen, but it is sure on my mind every single day.
You are definitely suffering from severe anxiety. It is treatable. You should not spend every minute of your life worrying about dying. You cannot enjoy life that way. Have you tried CBD or medical marijuana? They both work very well on anxiety and no side effects. You can even use a low THC dose with a high CBD content to get relief but not feel high. The CBD prevents the marijuana high but helps the anxiety go away. My daughter uses this combination. About 7:1 ratio of CBD:THC. You want high CBD level, low THC level. It works. Anxiety disorder is a mental condition caused by an upset in brain chemicals but it is fixable. Please seek help.

You can tell this was 2005, back when thrombolytics were standard of care for STEMIs versus going straight to placing a stent. I’m impressed- typically RCA occlusions don’t respond well to thrombolytics.
I've never touched another cigarette to this day! I drove to the hospital, not realising I was having a heart attack and had a cigarette on the way, my last one ever. I feel better now than I did 12 years ago when I quit.
I had a 35 year old Aunt,never smoked a day in her life. She was obsessed with no one even coming near her with a lit cigarette. Her and my Uncle wanted a large family,and being they married both in there late 20’’s ,decided to start right away. In 7 years they had 5 children. At 33-34 she was told she had lung cancer and already at stage 4. She had only months to live. How or why she ended up with lung cancer baffled the DRs. She passed away 8 months later , leave her 5 children all under the age of 6. As a 40 year smoker, i am a cancer patient. I lost my left breast at stage 2-3 in September of 2014. Also wound up with COPD. Now i can see why i deserved my problems, I’ll never understand my Aunt dying so young ! RIP Auntie,love you.

Trust me as a brit you don't want the NHS, its complete garbage, waiting lists for specialists going over a year, people dying in waiting, 6 hr waitsin a/e, dried blood on the floor, very basic testing and nothing if you have something "rare" as they wont fund the treatments, 1/3rd of the budget currently going on negligence, its a shambles.

chris johnson Thank you for your concern, it is appreciated. I’m not diabetic, and the only time my sugar runs high, is when physically under stress. Such as being in the hospital, like from 4/26 to 5/3. When in the hospital, my potassium also tends to drop, too. Once I’m able to eat again (I’m on a PEG-J feeding tube), I have a Gastroparesis specific cookbook scheduled for delivery later today. As for the man in the video, I remember my Dad in 1996 when he had a big heart scare, and had a five artery bypass. That was scary for the family.

Incredibly lucky for the staff, but the government are doing their best to head us towards a US style private system. Things will be very different then. Only those that can afford top insurance or the super rich will get good health care. It’s incredibly sad. If somethings not done in the next couple of years it’ll be to late.
They need to emotionally detached, to do the job because not all outcomes will be happy. They need to take life and death in the same stride.

My Dad had a massive heart attack around 10 years ago, they call the type of heart attack that he had - the widow maker. Dad was 55 and his Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncles all died of massive heart attacks at 55. Luckily my Dad lives very close to the hospital and he had a clot busting injection, followed by a triple bypass - it should have been a quadruple bypass but the fourth artery wasn't good enough to be used. So he had another heart attack, followed by a stent. Ten years on my Dad is fitter and healthier looking than he was at 55! I'm so grateful to our NHS!

I have had several ecg's and I (and my brothers) will have to have regular checks on my heart once I reach 40.
Oddly enough, there is also a clotting disorder on my Mothers side (My Mum, 4 Uncles and my Grandfather all had either thrombosis or pulmonary embolism- causing 4 of my Uncles to die and my Grandfather ) They haven't identified the gene involved in the clotting but having studied the blood of multiple members of our family they decided it was a genetic clotting disorder - that they have yet to discover the gene responsible. Our blood is very thick (I had to be on blood-thinning injections twice a day throughout both my pregnancies and was under the care of the head of haematology alongside my obtetrician)
My grandfather was about 80 when he had his ‘widow maker’ heart attack a year or two back. He got up from a chair, felt a bit weird but was well enough after to go about his day. He didn’t know about the attack until weeks later. He had stents put in, no bypasses at his age. We were very fortunate to have more time with him. He died several weeks ago, not of a heart attack but from dementia (Parkinson’s brought that on) and old age.
So good on your dad for getting through it and making a change! Don’t take life for granted! I’d recommend you get checks done once a year when you reach 50; calcium-score tests, full blood works, heart fitness test etc, just so you know if you need to take action before it’s too late. I had a heart attack back in January of 2011. I can't describe the pain. Imagine ten elephants sitting on your chest and 100 more elephants balances on top of those elephants and it's a bit close. The cardiologist said it was the worst one he had seen in 30 years and said it was the killer. He said nearly 100 percent of all people that have heart attacks of that severity die.
I remember thinking I was about to pass out about a dozen times but I fought like Hell to stay conscious. I knew if I closed my eyes I was a goner. So I focused myself until the ambulance came and stayed focused until I was in the hospital right up until they sliced me in the groin area to insert the tool that goes into the main artery to open the blockage and inserts the stent. It was Hell. I ended up staying in the hospital for two weeks. I eat/ate well, I don't smoke(Never have) and I only drank after work on Fridays. I do have type 1 diabetes tho and heart disease is a major complication of T1 diabetes of course.
In the end I won(this time). So take that, heart! *me punches heart*

Cut out red meat and exercise regularly. Drink warm lemon and honey first thing in the morning. Apple cider vinegar before bed. That's a holistic approach. Meds can only do so much.
I was 33 yrs old when I had my heart attack, no TPA then, it took 45 minutes to resusitate me, but, I lost twenty percent of the heart muscle, glad to be here 36 yrs later!!!

My brother wasn't feeling well over the weekend. On Monday morning when he arrived at the hospital (driven by his son), he couldn't get himself out of the car. That is when he had the heart attack. Best place to be! He survived!

Home having horrible chest pain and chewing tums like mad with no relief and I finally got him in the car and drove him to the hospital and got to the ER and they came out with a wheelchair and took him into a room and wham he had the heart attack. He was only 37

I had two heart attacks one on a Sunday morning and the other the following Saturday. Not one of the typical signs but that first one, somehow I knew I was having a heart attack. I told 911, "I think I'm having a heart attack."" Got up from the chair and unlocked the door so the Paramedics could get in. At the hospital, when the doc told me, "Well, you're having a heart attack." I cried. That realization of Im getting old, and things are bound to start happening is scary that first time. Im fine now and have no fear of death.

I had a heart attack two years ago , four cardiac arrests fortunately in front of the paramedics, when they found the blockage in the cath lab they said it was tiny but could have been fatal, three days in cardiac care and I was as good as new, these people amaze me 💗

If you are experiencing signs and symptoms of a heart attack, while waiting for an ambulance which must call, it may help to chew and then swallow a tablet of aspirin (ideally 300mg), as long as you are not allergic to aspirin. Aspirin helps to thin the blood and improves blood flow to the heart. I always carry aspirin it could save my life or others.
And drink cold water (for some reason cold can help steady your heart rhythm). My mum is an RN and she taught me this.

I was stented; left anterior descending artery blocked 100%. Widow maker. As soon as the stent was placed, the pain was gone and I felt perfectly fine...no restrictions...And that was ten years ago.

I found it odd that he wasnt offered a stent instead of thrombolysis treatment, as that is the preferential treatment according to NHS, NICE and ESC guidelines. It could be that this hospital wasn't a PCI Centre (where they insert stents) and he was too far from a hospital that provides that service. Thrombolysis isnt as effective, carries more risks and is administered as a plan B, with patients often requiring stenting later anyway. Hope you're better Frank 😉. An LAD blockage is one of the most dangerous STEMIs (heart attacks), and with a "Widow Maker" pattern, you were very lucky to make it. We also call it "Tombstone". Awful, i know. Watch out for any complications and hope you're following your rehab programme 😀👍
Widow maker is an occluded Left Main artery (which branches into the LAD and another artery, both supplying the front half of the heart). If this is what you had, you are fortunate to be alive!

I was on duty mid into my career in a hospital. My patient was exhibiting signs of a stroke right before she was to transfer for a scheduled procedure. Was so elated to learn my actions saved her from having an acute stroke. TPA is a wonderful thing! 👍🏼

Interesting to see how medical care has changed too. I'm being taught to get the patient a stent asap these days, and only use tpa if we can't get them to a hospital with a cardiac unit within 2 hrs!
Well stenting does not cause cerebral haemorrhages and is generally alot better tolerated. More people can benefit from it with fewer risks. It's quick enough, it's effective, so of course you would prefer it as the first line treatment
@Amy Tinsky the stent is inserted peripherally. The clot can be aspirated. The stents can be Drug eluting (meaning they release drugs) 5o prevent further clots.

I don’t remember much but I remember my grandad and auntie having a heart attack in the same house at the same time. My grandad started having a heart attack upstairs first then 10 minutes later my auntie downstairs on the sofa while one ambulance was on the way we had to then ring for a second ambulance. It was the most horrific day I have heard and known about. My grandad survived and is doing really well but my auntie unfortunately passed away a couple of days later 👼🏻 Hope you are okay I can’t imagine the feeling and how you must of felt

I dunno about the UK but here in Australia paramedics can also give the thrombolysis on the road before even reaching hospital. They have to meet alot of criteria but doing this before even reaching hospital potentially saves alot of lives

She had 3 more small attacks in 2 days. They finally admitted her and inserted a stent. It's sad that, in 2018, most of the health studies are STILL based on 50 year old white men

I'm an RN and I remember when I was a student doing a clinical placement in the ER, we had a female patient come through triage with her only complaint being 'I don't feel right'. No specific symptoms, no pain. We eventually did an ECG that showed she was having a heart attack. Symptoms of a heart attack can be incredibly vague in women

Very pleasant, older woman. She sat down and I began to triage her. She said she felt silly for coming in but just felt so strange she didn't know what else to do. Then she coded.

I'm 39 and I smoked since 14. please pray I can see my 12 year old off to a good life. heart attacks scare me. losing control of your life process in the face of possible death and there is nothing you can do about it is the scariest shiet ever. I changed my ways since this last December of 2020 when I had a heart attack in my sleep. It woke me up . I dreamt I was having a heart attack and surprise! I was in such a hurry to go to the hospital I called 911 and was at the door when they got there. The pressure on my chest was intense but I had a mission to get to that hospital as soon as I could. A catheterization showed I had 2 completely blocked arteries and they put the stents in. 2 months later I had an ablation on my heart done. Three months later I got a Watchman put in to catch clots so I don't have to be on blood thinner the rest of my life I've been overhauled and I'm ready to go LOL! Maybe not good for another hundred thousand but at least a few more. I'm already 72 so...

I turn 35 on Wednesday and I’m always afraid I’ll have a heart attack one of these days, or even worse sudden cardiac arrest. I don’t smoke or drink though, and I exercise and eat pretty healthy most of the time. The older I get the more nervous it makes me.
By your healthy living, I'd say you don't have too much to worry about!

If you have had family with ischemic heart disease or strokes/heart attacks, or high blood pressure/diabetes it is worth checking in with your doctor.
If your family history is clean, and you don't live an excessively stressful life, the fear is pointless.
You should however, start getting regular check-ups as soon as you turn 50

Shattered a knee, transferred to a regional medical center for reconstructive surgery, first thing the surgeon asked me on admittance was "Do you smoke?", to which I said yes (about 30 a day). He said if I wanted him him to repair my knee I'd have to quit.
25 years smoke free, zero regrets.

I was a paramedic for many years and one thing that is a bit less scary then someone having a heart attack is when they administer the thrombolytic and then have you transport them to another hospital. If they had not started reperfusion prior to taking them to the higher level of care hospital, there is a good chance it's going to happen in the ambulance. When it does, it can cause some funky rhythms that is normally treated but I was taught to give it time to allow for the heart to take care of itself. It was difficult to watch but I had the Doc on the phone and telling him what rhythms were showing. The individual made a full recovery with little damage thanks to that medication. Gotta love people smarter then me. Lol

I quit smoking for three years, but started up again after the man I was with for over 15 years cheated on me multiple times, and then 2 weeks later my mother passed away. I remember, as a kid, my Granddad having several heart attacks over several years at around 70. Each time I thought it would kill him. He lived to over 90 in pretty good health, walked, danced and if anything was healthier than before the HA. It was a hospital infection that got him in the end.

Iv had a major stroke I threw a clot and they gave me that same meds before they gave it my husband had to sign papers giving them permission to do so. They said it would either save me or kill me two weeks in ICU another two weeks in the steep down room and on to home long road to recovery thankfully it worked.

Steve you had your heart attck 10 months after I had mine (25/01/05), only you got superior immediate care than I did. It took the wallies at my hospital in Ireland about 16 hours to diagnose me despite my howls of pain the entire night. A nurse even yelled at me to shut up because I was annoying. Glad to see you're doing well and end of rant lol.
I'M glad you made it fine. Hope you will have many more decades of life.

Yup. Doctors are so calm. My 1 week old daughter was admitted to emergency on New Year’s Day and was hooked up to a whole bunch of wires and monitors in a matter of minutes as if they were just going about their business.
Turns out she had an undiagnosed hole in her heart that they didn’t catch at three maternity ward.
I hope that she's doing much better now.
I quit smoking a year and a half ago, just before surgery for cervical cancer and a tumor. I quit VAPING 3 months ago and don't miss either one bit. I have heart disease, COPD, type II diabetes, high BP, high cholesterol and a handful of smaller problems. Oh..., let's also NOT forget I live in Florida, U.S.A. - Current epicenter of COVID - Delta variant... Do I miss smoking? Not really..., I have scarier problems right outside my front door!!! Blessings to all of you who have quit or are REALLY giving it your best effort to quit!!!

Stephen is my dad and he was 42 when this happened, he's 57 now and hasn't smoked since.
Same thing happened to me. Had a heart attack due to blood clots. Was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital and was resuscitated. Eventually spent 6 months on warfarin. Its a crazy drug, bled internally a few times. It was a long long 6 months of recovery

One thing is for sure. I'm suffering from a general anxiety disorder, I'm 48, no smoking, no sugar, no fast food and regularly active. I do get the occasional PVC and just that is enough to send me into the worst distress ever. I always said, and I'm serious, that if my heart stops i do not wanna be reanimated because my life if I survive a heart attack would even be more miserable than it is now. I'd be scared to die every second like I am already, while I'm not even sick. It is my worst fear ever, nothing beats that. Cardiophobia, as they call it. If i drop, i want them to let me go. Same if i had cancer, i don't wanna get any chemo. Just enjoy the time left until it's time to ask for assisted dying. But i'm alive today, never know when it's gonna happen, but it is sure on my mind every single day.
You are definitely suffering from severe anxiety. It is treatable. You should not spend every minute of your life worrying about dying. You cannot enjoy life that way. Have you tried CBD or medical marijuana? They both work very well on anxiety and no side effects. You can even use a low THC dose with a high CBD content to get relief but not feel high. The CBD prevents the marijuana high but helps the anxiety go away. My daughter uses this combination. About 7:1 ratio of CBD:THC. You want high CBD level, low THC level. It works. Anxiety disorder is a mental condition caused by an upset in brain chemicals but it is fixable. Please seek help.

@StevenGarrett, From SoCal, that was intense to watch. You had an angel with you that day. I was a 20 a day by 18 yo 🥴. Quit then and never smoked again, I’m 62yo now. Wish everybody would respect their lungs. You were blessed that day. 🥳

You can tell this was 2005, back when thrombolytics were standard of care for STEMIs versus going straight to placing a stent. I’m impressed- typically RCA occlusions don’t respond well to thrombolytics.

I've never touched another cigarette to this day! I drove to the hospital, not realising I was having a heart attack and had a cigarette on the way, my last one ever. I feel better now than I did 12 years ago when I quit.

I had a 35 year old Aunt,never smoked a day in her life. She was obsessed with no one even coming near her with a lit cigarette.
Her and my Uncle wanted a large family,and being they married both in there late 20’’s ,decided to start right away. In 7 years they had 5 children.
At 33-34 she was told she had lung cancer and already at stage 4. She had only months to live. How or why she ended up with lung cancer baffled the DRs. She passed away 8 months later , leave her 5 children all under the age of 6.
As a 40 year smoker, i am a cancer patient. I lost my left breast at stage 2-3 in September of 2014. Also wound up with COPD. Now i can see why i deserved my problems, I’ll never understand my Aunt dying so young !

By any chance, did that excellent life-saving health care cost you upwards of $250,000 like it does in an American hospital? Just an American here really jealous of the NHS. I really wish more of us in the states would get to see how hospitals function in the UK and EU. We would realize that our healthcare system is garbage.

Trust me as a brit you don't want the NHS, its complete garbage, waiting lists for specialists going over a year, people dying in waiting, 6 hr waitsin a/e, dried blood on the floor, very basic testing and nothing if you have something "rare" as they wont fund the treatments, 1/3rd of the budget currently going on negligence, its a shambles.

Had heart attack at the age of 30 , now 50 I’m so glad like yourself I was forced to give up , wish I had never started but it’s a drug , highly addictive , glad to see your ok , enjoy life 👍
