A final comment, it's nice to see how riddled with anxiety you got in medical. The aim of the game is literally to overcome everything you are feeling while making rational decisions on your next actions on the fly; often very rapidly.
Watching Max play this again on stream made me REALLY appreciate the sound design. You can really feel how much tension in this game gets built just from audio cues alone. Very few games have nailed it as much as this one did. I also really respect Max's playstyle throughout the run. I think a lot of people found the game too long in part because, on top of all the objectives, it's really easy to feel stuck in a corner and never wanting to move. Max always inched his way forward though, and pulled some ballsy plays, which I think the game encourages.
Part of the reason the game takes so long (at first) is because it sets traps that the player will walk into by themselves. New players (Max included) feel the need to whip out the motion tracker at all times, not aware that all enemies (the xeno included) can hear it going off, causing them to be killed by it; new players (Max included) immediately think that jumping into a locker is the best way to hide, not aware that it leaves you with nowhere to go and can result in you losing health when you hold your breath too long. To Max's credit, he's got a feel for the game most people don't have this soon- he's walking when it's safe, which is _exactly_ what you want to do when the xeno is not around. The _best_ way to survive is to keep moving when you can, be patient when it's dangerous, take calculated risks every so often, and use everything at your disposal (especially access rewires).
I agree. There's something special about space horrors. Whether it's Alien, Event Horizon and, yus, Dead Space, (even the GREAT Star Wars novel: Death Troopers), I just feel drawn to them, wanting to immerse myself in their lore and learn all I can. Even though my nerves wouldn't permit me to play these games myself, I've watched multiple playthroughs and they never get old. Personally, I'm really happy how well received Dead Space's remake is lately. Gives me hope this genre still has a lot of interest.
Thing of Beauty? The AI is extremely basic and actually really bad when you look at it. The game encourages you to hide from the Alien when it is around, but the Alien itself will always patrol in a set radius around your character even though it doesn't know where you are. So if you're on one side of the map searching for items and trying to avoid it, it'll gravitate over to your location which will likely cause you to hide, and if you do hide you'll see it's pattern clear as day. It'll patrol and wander in a set distance from your position, walking back and forth and even if you sneak away and go to another section it'll just reppear there instead. It makes exploring the enviroments and landscapes a tedious and annoying chore where you hide, wait for him to leave then get out of hiding only for him to reappear moments later causing you to hide once again and do the whole process over again. You can't out run the alien and items that stun it or distract it don't last long enough to be worth while.
@@Summer_Tea I mean hey, if you enjoy tedious AI then more power to you. I don't think it would've bothered me as much had I not seen through it almost instantly. The mystery and horrifying aspect of the Alien hunting you is the key appeal of this game and if you don't have that then it becomes like most horror games where the enemy is more of an annoyance than anything scary or engaging. The medical ward was one of the worst parts for me because of the map lay out you can literally hide in one of the rooms and watch as the Alien prowls back and forth outside, because it might as well be attatched and connected to you via an invisible rope it'll never go too far before coming back, giving you a very limited window to escape, I found that if you just sat there the Alien would never leave that section until you do and once you start to move it will also start to move as well. Psychic enemies that constantly graviate towards you despite crouch walking and trying to sneak when getting to far from them isn't my Idea of fun. You never feel like you're out smarting the Alien just abusing it's broken AI loop.
3:42:00 "You can lock most doors?" Literally. The _worst_ idea. The Alien can get in and out of nearly _any_ area using vents (the patient rooms are the only exception in that area). All Max has done is trapped _himself._
Which honestly is probably the point. To make you think you're safe and then remind you that Xeno's don't use traditional ways of traveling that humans have to.

The recent uptick in interest in Isolation among streamers is good to see. The game was well received when it came out, but I don't think it got the recognition it deserved from a wider audience, in part because of RE7 coming out shortly after. I think Isolation is waaaay better than RE7.
Agree!! I think it's on it's way to becoming a cult classic, just had a late start. This game was TERRIBLY underrated and CA did such a good job, its good to see them being recognized for what is arguably one of the best games in gaming history.
@@LisleVonRhuman Also didn't help that the first hour or so is so damn slow. Slow starts can be good to set up everything, but with that slow start, it can also be really easy to make your audience impatient if not done near perfectly
@@HoodWeegee That slow start is one of the main reasons so many of my friends put this game down and never picked it up again. I adore the Alien franchise so I was hooked from the opening and loved every second.
Man if the same studio did a full graphics and physics overhaul of this game I would gladly buy it all over again and pay double what I payed for it in 2014.
Simply put as someone that went through the game truly from start to finish, this nails the style and atmosphere of the first film perfectly and appropriately ratchets up the tension and scale to also convey the energy of the second film too. The first 10 hours of the game are exhilarating, haunting, and creepy as well as tense with an unstoppable monster that can be deadly to you and everyone else. In the last 5-8 hours though, it does become long in the tooth, forcing backtracking to get to the standard ending for this series (self destruct and airlock QTE) and the Alien loses its scare factor, when about a dozen of them stalk throughout the entire station as soon as you get the Flamethrower. Damn good, but its notable flaws keep it from being truly one of the finest horror games in general. For now, it's one of the best game entries in the Alien Series.
Max won't see this message but, The Shining wasn't the first horror movie, I know of at least, to have no music. There's a movie called "The Haunting" which is a 1963 ghost movie but there's no ghosts shown, there's no music, and you never see any sort of creature. It is one of my FAVORITE horror movies of all time, definitely top 5.

Anyone who remembers the 80's realizes that Paul Reiser's character was very believable. He was the do-anything double-talking yuppie who was out for a percentage above everything else. The only unrealistic thing about his character is that karma actually managed to bite him in the ass. Most yuppies in the real world made their money at the cost of everyone else, said "peace out bitches", and moved to a gated retirement community.

The one movie that fucked me up as a kid was The Blob (1988). I was around 6 years old and I would often sleep on the floor downstairs because I had super bad vertigo, so I couldn't sleep in a bed. And I remember I kept waking up cuz the TV was on, and The Blob was on at around 1am or something. And I remember seeing three deaths; the one where the girl tries to pull the guy away and ends up ripping off his arm; the one where the guy dies off-camera when he gets dragged up onto the ceiling; and the one where the guy gets pulled into the sink at the restaurant. That last one *fucked me up* forever. Even now, 25 years later, I can't watch that movie.

Thanks for archiving this on TH-cam and hope to see the Nostromo DLC episodes streamed sometime soon too! Shine on and thanks again! Glad you had fun!!
Characters, environments, and atmosphere build ups are quintessential to contributing to a great story. let it be as slow as it would take to flesh them out, there's a reason why movies like 2001: Space Odyssey is liked by many albeit it's really slow..
I still can't believe I finished this game 7 times! In all difficulties available. I must've been out of my mind back in 2015. No regrets though. AI became one of my favorite games of all time. A true hidden gem...

YAAAASSS! The game is generally okay for the first few hours depending how quickly you progress and how much the atmosphere gets under your skin. I can see how it being a slow burn initially might have been a let down. Then Medcial happens. That separates the wheat from the chaff alright. Fun fact: you can die in the first transit area after Axel dies. I tested it once because on a re-play I wondered why I was hearing actual vent cues before I left. Did that on nightmare (deliberately left flashlight on) Jesus christ it just dropped and killed me before the transit car doors opened, LOL. I love this game to pieces.... I mean I've lost a lot of the 'fear' but you still have to operate under a deal of stress. The survival maps in particular are a nice challenge afterwards as it puts together everything you've learned, give you very limited resources and slaps a time limit on your objectives
The length of those playthrough really prove how experience & skill can make a game MUCH shorter. Most blind playthrough of this game by youtubers take 8-10 hrs total (with a few ragequits here and there) The WR for (Nightmare Difficulty) with No Major Glitches is like 2h 43m 08s This game's "lifespan" is probably one of the most player-dependant one I've ever seen (and played myself).

Man, I can't believe it has already been 7 years since I played this for the first time. One of the best gaming experiences I've had in my life. In addition, Alien is my favorite movie of all time, and I have constant nightmares about being chased by Xenomorphs. This game had me stressed like no other game. It physically pained me, that's how tensed up I was while playing it. Now everything about the game feels so nostalgic. If it weren't for the Alien and those pesky androids, I would love to live on Sevastopol Station. It has that charme.
If you're gonna watch Aliens, there's the theatrical release and the extended release. Theatrical is fairly paced and easy to get into. But the extended edition has some scenes that are awesome, saddening or frightening that were cut: One of them was the turret scene. It's just a couple of auto turrets bottlenecking a hallway. Seeing the characters watching a blurry crt security cam of the turrets blast the xenos seemed cool, but the frightening thing was when the ammo starting running out and the xenos... they're still pouring from that hallway.

That :( hit really hard for some reason lol, I wanna see it edited onto the Alien's face now
Ya, and when the the pizza delivery comes, a xenomorph named Janice should answer the door and eat his face. Cause no alien is gonna give a flying fuck about Covid-19.
"Hey let's shine a bright light at the scary monster!" ---- the late maximillillian dood ---
This video for me is 50% loving his Alien franchise knowledge and 50% me screaming at the screen for him to pick up the big glowy maps.
I'm still of the mindset that Max's intro and outro are some of the coolest tunes I've ever heard. Always pumps me up.
The AI for the Alien is a thing of beauty. An absolute gem of a game.
Try the Unpredicable Alien Mod. Makes it even better tenfold
@@rileyboy10 AI in Games has a couple of videos you should watch.
@@rileyboy10 I like how you just described the core gameplay loop that is exactly what I signed up for as an example of "tedium."
3:42:00 "You can lock most doors?"
Literally. The _worst_ idea.
The Alien can get in and out of nearly _any_ area using vents (the patient rooms are the only exception in that area). All Max has done is trapped _himself._
The doors become unlocked shortly after so it doesn’t really matter lol
@@whateverkat8122 You don't want to have to wait for it to unlock when the Xeno is in the same room, _especially_ not in that hallway.
@@KalibreSteelblast True true
Which honestly is probably the point. To make you think you're safe and then remind you that Xeno's don't use traditional ways of traveling that humans have to.
That thumbnail.......... PERFECTION.
Also, I’m in shock this game is 6 years old! It’s legit the best Alien game I’ve ever seen. They nailed the look, the style, and The HORROR.
And it’s amazing this game is actually part of the Lore of the movies! It shows how much the team really respected the movies.
Mad respect from you as well Max. Your knowledge of the movies is impressive.
The recent uptick in interest in Isolation among streamers is good to see. The game was well received when it came out, but I don't think it got the recognition it deserved from a wider audience, in part because of RE7 coming out shortly after. I think Isolation is waaaay better than RE7.
Probably because the LAST Alien game...
kinda soured most people's taste or patience of games in dev hell while being absolute shite!
Agree!! I think it's on it's way to becoming a cult classic, just had a late start. This game was TERRIBLY underrated and CA did such a good job, its good to see them being recognized for what is arguably one of the best games in gaming history.
They came out like 3 years apart
@@LisleVonRhuman Also didn't help that the first hour or so is so damn slow. Slow starts can be good to set up everything, but with that slow start, it can also be really easy to make your audience impatient if not done near perfectly
@@HoodWeegee That slow start is one of the main reasons so many of my friends put this game down and never picked it up again. I adore the Alien franchise so I was hooked from the opening and loved every second.
Man if the same studio did a full graphics and physics overhaul of this game I would gladly buy it all over again and pay double what I payed for it in 2014.
the genuine shock and horror on max's face at 2:02:22 is amazing and my favorite reaction he has in this video
This thumbnail is a masterpiece
Wow didn't notice that !
I know Max is mostly known as a fighting game streamer but boy do I enjoy watching his playthroughs of games like this
Max won't see this message but, The Shining wasn't the first horror movie, I know of at least, to have no music. There's a movie called "The Haunting" which is a 1963 ghost movie but there's no ghosts shown, there's no music, and you never see any sort of creature. It is one of my FAVORITE horror movies of all time, definitely top 5.
Ngl I thought Texas Chainsaw Massacre did it first
Max has such a big bro vibe. Like he knows all this weird, slightly-before-my-time stuff about movies, games, people, his dad was at Universal so he sometimes drops neat little inside stuff...
Idk. Its just neat. Shine on.
3:51:29 is a true panic attack.
Indeed 😂
My first horror game
Got to the vent you see the xenomorphs shadow in before you see it , heard the noises
Turned it off never played it again
And every Halloween I keep trying to build up the nerve to play it
Still haven’t
Dude, watching this live was amazing. Watching his initial reactions of the game ever since he last played it was awesome, and the later sequences in the game were tense as hell. This game offers such a great "Alien experience," and unfortunately I highly doubt we'll ever get a game like this ever again.
I remember the part where he spotted the alien down the hall then turned around to escape and was instantly stabbed. It was craxy.
Then appreciate what it is
Ngl, I’m not entirely convinced we need another game like this ever again. Would say that it’s already got everything it needs and then a bit more.
This was deadass one of my favorite game play-throughs that ive ever had the pleasure to watch. Im so happy you decided to upload this. Thank you Max
True, too bad there was no gated retirement community in LV-426...
Holy sh** it’s been SIX YEARS?? I can’t believe it’s been that long since this game came out already!
Friggin Obama was in office??
Watching Max keep walking past the map download screens was painful
Almost every single A:I playthrought on TH-cam when the game came out
@@romerolemstra8747 very true. They’re so easy to spot once you’re more trained by the game to pick them up
Holy shit lol. Max is so bad at paying attention to environments. The amount of glowing things he misses is astounding. Its driving me up the fucking wall lol.
Should watch him play Metroid Dread, it’s even worst how he misses obvious items or section of the game.
1:28:00 everyone died at this part in their 1st playthrough. This room is brutal if you don't know what you need to do or what to expect. Really happy Max is doing a playthrough of this game, absolutely love it and it's super faithful to Alien/Aliens
Max: "If you guys didn't know, I'm a huge Aliens fan."
Me who knows what his daughter is named: "No WAY ReAlLy?!?!?!?!?"
You're saying it like his daughter's name is some top secret information hidden in area 51 or something lmao
Since I'm sure somebody is going to ask, it's Ripley.
@@skootz24 I think they're referring more to the first name, being Amanda, which was shown in the Director's Cut of Aliens
@@RebootedGaming are yall dumb
I would never want to play this game with an audience. You just aren't going to feel that true fear that you get while playing alone.
Even now, 25 years later, I can't watch that movie.
one of THE best Sci fi horror games for me right next to Dead Space. can't even recall how many times i was pausing game just to take a break with shaking hands barely managing to light my cigs
Yea I can't mess with this game. I woke up my wife in the middle of the night like f*** this noise
53:54 go to this time and then keep a close eye on the dead body!
It moves ever-so slowly. You can skip back and forth for about 50 seconds to really see it.
Just wanted to stop by and say after watching this live on Twitch awhile back, this is one of my favorite playthroughs I had the pleasure of watching from start to finish. As Alien Isolation is my favorite Alien game and my favorite survival-horror game, this was definitely a treat to watch another fellow Alien/Aliens fan slowly fall in love with this game as the playthrough went on! Thanks for archiving this on TH-cam and hope to see the Nostromo DLC episodes streamed sometime soon too! Shine on and thanks again! Glad you had fun!!
I was there with you
So yeah, his bit about The Thing...I'm 45 and remember seeing bits and pieces of it as a kid...you never forget that shit.
Some call their beginning's slow. Others may call it story telling.
Characters, environments, and atmosphere build ups are quintessential to contributing to a great story.
let it be as slow as it would take to flesh them out, there's a reason why movies like 2001: Space Odyssey is liked by many albeit it's really slow..
@@ahmedtheshark2968 same with the first aliens, the first hour of the movie was spent showing the characters and setting up the atmosphere.
Sorry but the story of this game is not that great, not bad but still.
Yeah, but the story is kinda cheeks or just boring.
The voice acting in this game is insane...That visceral "Fuck" when the pipe blew made me panic...and i'm not even playing the game
Around 3:51:00 "This game is driving me crazy. I need a fucking break".
Game: Find Trauma Kit.
I still can't believe I finished this game 7 times! In all difficulties available. I must've been out of my mind back in 2015. No regrets though. AI became one of my favorite games of all time. A true hidden gem...
22:20 lmao love it. Max my dood
I get anxiety when max plays games like this.
Max: *running*
Me: stop #$*! running!!!!!!!!!
2:39:45 Max starts talkin about the game starting to be more fun for him... if anyone wants to start there
I just love the part at 2:36:13 were the robot found his hiding spot. And max just continues to say 'what' in bewilderment.
The robot was just like "this locker is sUs" and went over to the locker. He was waiting and was probably thinking "tf is this girl doing?" Imagine if we saw it from the robot's perspective
The sudden scream of "Ultra Combo" is the true jumpscare.
4:04:19 like a scene from a movie, made 10 years ago but still looks so good. Combination of shadows, light, reflections on the floor + sound. Everything blends together perfectly.
Great game. Btw in 1:22:48 the momment you press the call button the alien is active but he wont come to search for you unless you make some noise or wait in the same place for too long. 1:23:50 you said nothing is gonna happen buuut if you hear there was an audio cue of the alien dropping, got lucky there Max 🤣🤣
Most blind playthrough of this game by youtubers take 8-10 hrs total (with a few ragequits here and there)
The WR for (Nightmare Difficulty) with No Major Glitches is like 2h 43m 08s
This game's "lifespan" is probably one of the most player-dependant one I've ever seen (and played myself).
"IT CAN SEE LIGHT!?" My favorite part
max i love your mood lighting
that creepy green
with like the yellow "space construction" flashing would look so good
I'm literally shouting at the screen "get the fucking map!" As max walks past the glowing map screens for the billionth damn time
Dear Max,
I have been with you and your content for such a long time (joined in the old Soul Calibur days). For the last few years I did not really come by, but with the current situation I found myself with more time at my hands than usual.
You have again become somewhat of a (happy) regularity in my every day life and I am pretty stoked about that. Especially since we never met :-D.
I was so happy to see, that you finally gave this game a full playthrough (I can remember your opinion from back when it was released. You were still salty about marines -as we all were).
Anyways, huge thank you for being you and being you for such a long time.
Greetings from ze country of Deutschland.
P.s: Sorry for the cheeze my dude.
That’s a really nice thumbnail. This game is amazing
Fire in the Sky fucked me up too and you're the only other person I've ever heard talk about it. Jesus, I'm getting flashbacks.
Sadly i can barley catch up with your streams so i'm really happy to see this playthough on youtube. Thanks!
Fire in the sky messed me up I was terrified of aliens for years. I was under 10 as well and walked in and sat while my parents were watching it. They were usually super strict but somehow I sat and watched the entire movie with them.

I need part 2 and 3 Max!! much love on the content
Dude part 2 was up but now it’s gone? : (
you can watch it on his twitch channel
The fact that Max kept missing the flashing orange interaction items drived me a little insane lol.
2:40:25 this is the scariest part of the playthru IMO. I still have dreams of this.
Here's the amazing part about this playthrough... Max didn't put ads on it. Absolutely wonderful.
Max: This game is not vibing with me. *2 hours later* THIS IS FUCKING NUTS!
I love when the Dood takes his time to teach us stuff about the things he loves. Now i want to watch Aliens! lol
WELCOME BACK, TO THE STAGE OF HISTORY
