    D8T waste handler operator here. Outside of maybe rock ripping, this has to be the harshest environment on a dozer. They live a tough life. Thanks for the video. Looking forward to following the progress.

      I agree 100%. I have seen the top of D8 frame rails almost completely ate away. They do go in and replace them. The leachate mixed with the dirt is some is like acidic sandblasting.

      Just wanted to let you know that this machine was just finished a few weeks ago and turned out beautifully. It has already went back to it's landfill and is busy pushing trash once again. It kills me that I got shut down only one video into this machine. This was my most popular video to date.

    Thank you for showing the D-9er. Boy those Land Fill Dozers get very Dirty corrosion workouts. I remember watching them at the transfer station before they completely rebuilt the station. Now the Garbage truck's dump on the floor, they use a CAT artic. Loader with solid tires to push trash into container trailers.

      The TH-cam channel "All Things Dope" always posts transfer station videos. I am a regular over on that channel. VERY interesting.

      I think about 9 weeks start to finish. I coordinate ordering all the parts about two weeks before. We only had about a dozen parts that we had to order emergency from Cat. Everything else was within three or four days out. Cat had one track already made and we have to build the second in house from individual parts.

    Okay, so that machine looks in terrible shape. I worked at Fresh Kills Landfill as a Tractor Operator for 28 years. I have never before seen a machine that looks like that. All our machines were meticulously maintained. All services are done on schedule by NYC heavy equipment mechanics that are Caterpillar certified. We had to "pick" the tracks regularly and take them our "water cannon" to be cleaned and then leave (any machine that was in for service) behind the shop. Where attendants would clean them with a steam Jenny. We had over 150 D8 and D9 machines, plus maybe 25 Cat Compactors and a dozen Rex Compactors. On a day to day basis. If you told your supervisor your machine was dirty. He would put it out of service or send a pressure washer truck. To give you a 'once over '. We also never let the tracks get that worn. Even on Swamp Cats (D6 LGP). BTW, same with our 992's and 966's, Kamatsu 500's. We had 4 Caterpillar 983's that were getting a little long in the tooth. We had Caterpillar do a total restoration. They were like brand new again. The good news is that Caterpillar can make that machine into a brand new machine. Yellow tracks, warrenty, and everything. IUOE Local 15, 38yrs ret.

      Phillip, I must say that Fresh Kills Landfill got me very very interested in that industry. It is very interesting to me to finally talk to someone who worked there for the amount of time you did Sir. Thank you for the description of the equipment fleet. I was curious to the exact number of machine they had there during its peak.

    • @phillipmoore6295
      @phillipmoore6295 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Machinery Mitch I forgot to mention that before 1989. We pulled Athey Wagons with dozers (without blades) to haul the garbage. After that, we used Payhaulers. At its peak. We had 260 Tractor Operators, working 24/7, 365 at two locations (in Fresh Kills), and two truck fills. Plus, NYC had two other Landfills (Pennsylvania Ave and Edgewater) and an incinerator. NYC generates a lot of garbage. Now, there is a 'transfer' station in every borough. There, they compact the garbage in containers) and load it onto trains. To take it down south. Medical waste it trucked to PA, where it is incinerated. If you have any questions. Just ask. I worked there from 1985 to 2015, nights for 8 years, and then days. (2002-2004, I worked out of the hall, then for DOT. Then I came back to Fresh Kills, off a preferred list.)

      Tom, we spray ours down once a week. But as Mitch said, the dust at the landfill is very acidic. After a year or so the paint just looks like that. I will say at our landfill the operators are really good about keeping the interiors clean. It's a messy job, may as well keep the office as clean as possible. :)

    Find True Peace In Jesus Christ
    What does it take to be Saved?
    Faith in Christ’s Finished Work on the Cross
    The Cost of Sin
    Romans 6:23
    For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
    HELL IS A REAL LOCATION
    Luke 12:4-5
    And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
    But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
    Matthew 25:51
    And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
    Are we all Sinners in NEED of a Saviour?
    Romans 3:10-12
    As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
    There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
    They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
    Romans 3:23-26
    For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
    Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
    Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
    To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
    What specifically to Believe in!!
    1 Timothy 2:4-6
    Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
    For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
    Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
    1 Corinthians 15:1-4
    Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
    By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
    For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
    And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
    Christ died for our sins, he was buried, and he rose again according to the scriptures so you can be free from Hell and Death. This is the greatest gift God gave us. By having faith in the Gospel you are sealed with the Holy Spirit forever and SAVED from that moment to eternity.
    Galatians 1:11-12
    11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
    12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
    Heaven or Hell?
    It’s Your Choice
    A PRAYER FOR SALVATION THROUGH FAITH
    “I know that I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that Christ died for my sins and rose three days later from the grave. Thank you for forgiving my sin on the cross. You alone Jesus is now why I have forgiveness and eternal life. Thank you in Jesus name. Amen.”
    If you have prayed this with faith (Wholeheartedly) you are Forgiven and now in the Body of Christ.
    Welcome brother or sister. Remember saying a prayer does not save you, having Faith does in Jesus and what He did for you.
    What if I continue to Sin?
    What if I stop having Faith?
    What if 5 years after being saved I have an affair?
    What if I aborted my child 1 year after I was saved?
    What about suicide?
    When you first had faith in Christ you were sealed and secured from that day forward, no matter what you do or don’t do our saviour has saved your soul and made you a new creation. Remember it Gods Work that saved you not Yours.
    Eternal Security ( 100% Going to Heaven)
    Ephesians 2:8-9
    For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
    Not of works, lest any man should boast.
    Titus 3:5
    Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
    Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
    That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
    God Bless You
