Sounds kinda like my family. I always associated with Gwyndolin, doing horrible shit because you're desperate for your father to understand and accept you. Having identity problems struggling with your own existence, hating yourself an others, I had it all happen too. I always felt so sorry for him. When I killed gwyndolin, I honestly had to stop playing, put down the controller, and cry my eyes out. That was a really powerful moment for me because I had recently reconciled with my dad after leaving my school. It was like I was killing the old me that I hated and allowing me to become the person I wanted to be.
but gwyndolin was forced to play that role. he didnt want to be a woman but gwyn thought it was best for him to be as he looked feminine. but sorry about what happened to you and am glad that you feel liberated now The Aspergers Effect
Gwyndolin's supposed mother, Velka, the goddess of law, and sin was the only one who accepted him. She taught him from birth to use moonlight magic, and gave him the responsibility of overseeing the child-covenant of the velka-priests who carry out punishment for sins. Velka carried with her to her death, the darkmoon ring which protected and allowed access to gwyndolin's chambers. She held a very strong attachment to gwyndolin, their trinkets prove this. The Velka's talisman, and the Darkmoon catalyst use opposite scaling for their potential abilities. After Velka died, Gwyndolin was truly alone, alone in a world drenched in sin.

Damn, I genuinely feel sorry for Gwyndolin. He was shunned and treated as an outcast by his own family, just because he had an affinity for the moon instead of the sun. I suddenly hate Gwyn, because that's just so terrible of him to do that to his own son. Gwyndolin never chose to have an affinity for the moon, he was born that way. Jeez, I don't blame Gwyndolin for doing the stuff he's done. Ever since he was born, he was downright abused by those who should've loved him.
We literally have no indication for any of that. Gwyndolin was raised as a girl due to having an affinity to moon magic. They were not rejected or hated by their own family. Indeed, their mask represents their " adoration of the Sun". They have their own cult of followers, the Blades, who answer to them. Their secrecy is merely a feature of the Covenant, both for it's members and Gwyndolin themselves. It is not an indication of abandonment or hatred; it is their nature as an occult deity associated with swift and unexpected divine punishment. More importantly, the question of their actual gender identity is still pertinent. The model in Dark Souls 1 has breasts, and is apparently female. The ring that supposedly " forces" them to adopt feminine mannerisms only changes a few gestures, and can be removed at any time. Indeed, were it not for item descriptions, Gwyndolin would be a firm she. The reason for Gwyndolin's sense of abandonment and despair is simple; their beloved father is dead, and their sibling and fellow gods have all left and abandoned their duties. All that is left is them, a god who never wished for or had the ability to surmount the responsibilities of an entire pantheon.

***** Honestly I'm not that familiar with Demon's Souls. My brother lent me his PS3 a few years ago and I played and finished Demon's Souls in about 4-5 days, so really that's my extent with it. Immediately afterwards I scoured the internet looking to see if From Soft had any plans to bring something like Demon's to to other platforms and that's when I found out about "Project Dark" and I was pretty happy to say the least. I've pretty much stuck to Dark Souls ever since. That being said, I did just buy a PS3 about 4 weeks ago and I do own Demon's Souls, but I have yet to give it another go. I've been very tempted to jump back in with "Souls Giving" going on right now but I haven't been able to find the time. So, to make a long post a little longer; yes, I've thought of it but at my current familiarity with the world and game of Demon's Souls I would not be able to give it the justice that it deserves, maybe one day though. But with my nine-part Dark Souls series nearing its finish about a month before Dark Souls 2 hits the streets, it's a long time off at best.
The Ring of the Sun's Firstborn's description says this: "...his [Firstborn] foolishness led to a loss of the annals, and rescinding of his deific status." The definition of annals is: a record of events year by year. I didn't say he was expelled because of it though, he may very well still be in Lordran. But, he did lose his status as a god and his name and identity was removed from history as a result. Thanks for watching =)
Thanks! It'll get more views, it just needs time. You don't remember because Vaati hasn't done a Gwyndolin video, I try to cover topics he has yet to cover. There will eventually be crossover though, there's no way I'm not doing an Artorias video. Vaati and I did have a brief back n forth and we're likely going to collaborate on something in the future. Lore, skit, 10 Things, I don't know what it will be, but hopefully it comes together well. And you're right, he is a nice guy. Thnx4Watching
Thanks a lot. If I keep making quality content, people will find it. I'm just happy people like yourself enjoy it so much and take the time to watch it n comment. I actually had a part about Gwyndolin's relationship to the Chosen Undead and Frampt, but I cut it. I think I'm going to save that for a Lore video about the endings of Dark Souls. Thanks for watching and taking the time to engage in some Dark Souls chat. = )
I love this video. Makes me kind of sad that his boss fight was so lacklustre. Gwyndolin himself should have been so much more powerful. I mean he's the god of the Moon and illusions. His boss fight should have been so much more than just chasing him down a corridor and smacking him over the head a few times. A real shame he wasn't as much of a challenge as his brother was. And at the end of it all, he gets slowly digested alive by a cannibal blob. From Soft really know how to horrify and sadden you at the same time. Hope they allow us to get his Moonlight set in the DLC.
The Illuminati he was frail and slow His only skills were illusions and magic he makes the corridor infinite so he could buy as much time as possible his boss fight is just prolonging the inevitable
If you think smough and ornstein are an illusion, it would've been part of fighting gwyndolin, since he created them then it is still part of his powers or magic, and I tell ya, O&S are no easy fight.
Thanks for the kind words! I do put a lot of effort in to my content, it's much appreciated when the time is taken to comment and chat up some Dark Souls =) So let's get to it. That specific part is derived from a conversation with Kaathe when he says "Clinging to his Age of Fire, and in dire fear of humans... Lord Gwyn resisted the course of nature... by sacrificing himself to link the fire, and commanding his children to shepherd the humans." Since Gwynevere is gone, he's the only child left
This is just Awesome! Gwnydolin was always my fav Char in Dark Souls and u understand how do tell his story. Keep up this good work and now let me cry, thats so fucking sad
Flann and Gwynevere are husband and wife, the game doesn't state whether the marriage was before or after they left but something was most likely going on between them prior to their departure either way. Also, it wasn't just Flann who left with Gwynevere. One of the item descriptions says that many deities abandoned Anor Londo after Gwyn linked the flame. That's as detailed as it gets though on who the deserters were.
As a fan of Vatti, I love lore contributions. And as a fan of the lore, I don't care who it comes from. Quality video, and some real nice editing. Subbed, liked, and I'll be catching up on the channel. Also, a collab with Vatti would be epic. You have a good voice for this kind of thing as well.
A lot of what you've said is interesting. I somewhat cover a small part of what you're talking about in the video, but it's very subtle. When it shows Gwyndolin, Flann and Gwynevere in the hallway, I made them all the same (normalish) size and I didn't make Gwynevere a giant like how her illusion is manifested by Gwyndolin. I thought of it more like Gwyndolin was romanticizing his memory of his "big" sister and making her seem even more Godly than she really was. I like your interpretation too
You've made an excellent jump into the realm of Dark Souls lore analysts with this video. I instantly recommended this to many friends, solid work with excellent storytelling
Thanks a lot man, it means a lot. I want to say that I'm just happy to find people who love Dark Souls as much as my self, but in reality it's pretty obvious that the Dark Souls community is one of the most passionate and best gaming has ever seen.
Great video. I have a personal theory/headcanon that the pantheon of Anor Londo is based on Norse mythology, or more specifically, Marvel's "Thor". Gwyn is Odin, his firstborn son is Thor (and following the popular speculation that the firstborn son is Solaire, that fits in with the plot of Thor no longer being worthy and becoming mortal), and Gwyndolin is Loki. After seeing this video, I believe the Gwyndolin-Loki parallels are there and are quite strong (especially the whole "ruling the kingdom with an illusion" thing, as of Thor: The Dark World). Just wanted to share my thoughts.
It's definitely interesting to see other peoples take on lore, especially when it's so well scripted. I always saw it like this: Gwyndolin, knowing his father whom he loves very much, is burning for all eternity and in everlasting agony. With this knowpedge Gwyndolin would manipulate the Chosen Undead as a means to put an end to the Lord of Cinder's pain. I doubt he even cares if the Chosen Undead brings about the age of darkness, because it will still bring an end to Gwyn's eternal torment.
What a phenomenal introduction and atmosphere. Facts seem on point and you're very articulate. Glad to see the DS community has another great lore teller. You sir, have earned a subscriber.
My dude basically lived Doofinshmirt's entire life. In all seriousness though, simply aligning with the moon was somehow enough to make Gwyn hate him? That really goes to show just how much Gwyn hates the darkness. If even his closest ones align with anything that resembles the darkness, he immediately acts like they're not his kids anymore.
Absolutely amazing! I especially liked the end where you identified that Gywn and Gwyndolin ends with the same fate, something that I've never noticed before.
Good stuff! Well delivered, great artwork, and the intro sequence to the book backdrop was a nice touch. Smacking myself for not getting the "dark sun" allusion in the first place.
I believe the snakes are another one of Gywndolin's illusions like Gwynevere, the statue in front of Gwyn's ceremonial tomb and the Sun and enemies of Anor Londo. I see him as being insecure and self-concise of his appearance as a result of how he was considered weak for being born under the moon, as such he manifests the snakes to make himself appear more intimidating. Beside, it's like you said, what says "I'm a man" more than a hentia porn monster slithering from your pants? Not much.
Yeah, it was supposed to be Andre, he was originally going to be a very important character to the story but it got cut. That's also why he is the only NPC in the game that has lip syncing while speaking. From Software wouldn't have spent the time and resources to do lip sync if he wasn't supposed to originally be a pivotal character, Andre would've had a motionless mouth just like everyone else otherwise. But, in the end, it was cut... so the firstborn could still be anyone.
Excellent video, I especially like how you have the images/paintings well animated on the feelings and tone of the video. One can wonder what went on in Gwynevere when she left her little brother behind, especially when he became so broken due to their father.
Disturbed1002 is right. He's "Flame God Flann." I think Flann has a Lord's soul because in the prologue cinematic it says with the first flame came "Heat, Cold, Life, Death, and of course Light and Dark." Seeing as how each other element is represented by the deity who captured it --Gwyn/Light, Pygmy/Dark, Nito/Death, and Witch/Life --I believe Flann is the "Heat" part of that ordeal and there's still another previously unseen "Cold" Lord's Souls as well. But that's complete speculation.
In Japanese his name translates to something like Yin/shadow/female/moon of the Yang/light/male/sun - Gwyndolin. All those concepts in two words. Its usually direct translated as "shadow of the sun", which is the most basic translation. Which I guess Dark Sun works as a translation and sounds cool, but the Japanese name is way more about the duality inherent in him that "dark sun" completely misses.
I was thinking of putting a lore video link here but I don't want to run around being a scrub advertising everywhere so If you can handle a big paragraph of speculation then here you go. I've just thought of something that blew my mind and it might be that I'm just an idiot or something and this is a perfectly normal idea that's blowing my mind only. Basically, the lord souls came from the First Flame and after taking them and challenging the dragons the flame started to fade. In Gwyn's soul description it says that he sacrificed MOST of his power to the God's and sacrificed himself but he still has great power in his soul. This was interesting to me because when you kill him, the bonfire in the middle lights up ever so slightly (I think i've seen that I'm not entirely sure(I'll check more)) But I believe that's the rest of Gwyn's power going back to the flame. In the Lordvessels description it says that it is for the chosen undead to fulfil the prophecy with; to take out Gwyn and continue the age of fire. When you put the Lord Souls into the Lordvessel you only unlock the door to the kiln instead of returning the Lord souls to the first flame and returning the world back to how it orignally was which would end the age of the "Gods of Anor Londo" and return power to the now (mostly) dead dragons. The Lord Souls should've been returned to the First Flame not put into the Lordvessel, a tool made by the Gods to fulfil the prophecy. And at the end of this there's a big plot hole which brings me into some more speculation, when the fire begins to die again, who will they get to save them once more? They already have the Lordvessel and the Lord Souls so who will redo the prophecy once more? I came up with this. They waited for someone strong enough (Any descendant with the Dark Soul (which is a Lord Soul so they would be powerful enough) to take on the Lords and get the Lord Souls back to them so they can (get this) power up GWYNDOLIN. Frampt befriended the Gods and Gwyndolin is the only one left and makes an illusion of his Sister to give you the Lordvessel pretending that he is somehow helping you continue your quest. He isn't. He wants to become powerful himself and Frampt is helping him claim the Lord souls so he can become more powerful than all the Gods and rule over as leader. That or they keep repeating the prophecy so all the Dark Soul pieces can slowly be recovered over aeons through all the descendants linking the flame? But yeah that's it. I have more ideas If you want to hear them (if you even see this message that is).
I read all the messages left in my videos... at least if the person has understandable grammar. You have some very interesting theories. I do, personally, believe that Framt and Gwyndolin are the "evil" characters of Dark Souls, or at least they are the ones attempting to manipulate the Chosen Undead into doing their will unwittingly. I try not to come right out and take a direct stance in my videos, instead leaving the audience up to the task of making that choice for themselves. That being said, there is no doubt that I tried to paint an evil picture for Gwyndolin's actions in this video, but I try to make people understand why he is the way he is. Also, there is no plot hole. Dark Souls' narrative repeatedly states that "the flames will eventually fade and only darkness will remain" by many of the NPC and it's even in the prologue cinematic. This is why I always believe that DS2 would be about one of two objectives. One, you're continuing the Link the Flame ending and you're going after the remaining Gods (The real Gwynevere, Flann, Velka, and so on) to use there souls to reinvigorate the flame once again. Or TWO, you're continuing the Dark Lord ending and you're going after those same Gods to put an end to the Age of Fire once and for all by extinguishing the last remaining souls capable of linking the flame once more. Anyway, for more on Gwyndolin I highly recommend this video: Shadow over Lordran - Dark Souls Lore: Gwyndolin Thanks for commenting and being part of this little community we have going here.
Thanks man ( I think I used the term plot hole wrongly there xD, I dunno) But it's nice to see a creator taking an active interest in the ideas of their viewers.
TerraMantis I actually have an idea relating to why the link the fire ending MIGHT actually prolong the age of fire, but the more I get into it, the sillier it seems. I might try making a lore video myself, see if I get any luck putting it into words...
TerraMantis i remember that someone said that dark souls 2 is most likely happening "at the same time" that dark souls 1. it would be wierd, but it kinda makes sense no?
hey great video, I loved the artsy look you did, but there were a couple things wrong with some of what u said in the video. 1. the GOW lost time itself which is why time is distorted in lordran, idk why they called it the annals of time... 2. gywndolin took over the darkmoon blade when velka fled lordran like gywnevre. 3. its believed that the way of white clerics were the ones that locked up the undead, but its possible that gywndolin helped. but since its lore I guess theres no right answer..
Actually i heard from another person on youtube who got a special lore book that "Andre" the Blacksmith were supposed to be the Sun's Firstborn, but in the end they didnt include it. I just checked and it is EpicNameBro who says it from the additional lore book only released in Japan.
Thanks! It was fan art for a hypothetical version of Assassin's Creed that takes place in ancient Japan (or the artist was Japanese). I wish I could post the link here but I can't. If you really want to see it just Google search "Assassin's Creed Japan Art" and it shouldn't take too long to find. Thanks for watching. ; )
I really hope you answer this. At 3:14 you seem to point out (maybe I misunderstood) that Gwyndolin was the one to led humans (undead ones at least) to their northern prision or even to perish (hollowing and death). Where is it stated that he was the one to do this, or at least that he carried some action led by the misconception of his father vision? Amazing video by the way, very nice style and quality, seems like you put a lot of effort into your content. Also where's Flann's silhouette from?
I don't remember Vaati Vidya doing a video on Gwendolen; perhaps if you send him a link to this video he'll promote it, 'cause it is pretty good and he is a cool guy. Good material like this need more views.
I always pitied him. Especially in DS3 no one deserves to have their life stolen and have their corpse abused. Aldrich I truly despise more than any boss in the whole series.
TerraMantis around 3:42 you show Gwynevere leaving with (I'm assuming) Flann. Where did you come up with the attire/look of Flann? And can you assemble it in game? He looks sweet.
Solaire is "shepherding the humans" Literally guiding and protecting them. Gwynevere left before or after Seath stole her maidens and turned them into pisaca experiments.
I came to this conclusion from several things in the game. 1. the existence of the tomb of the great lord, and why it was forbidden to enter it. 2. how the gods presented themselves, the statue in the main hall in anor londo keep, gwyns statue stands taller than Gwynevere, which makes sense since being the chief diety, he would be depicted as bigger. but, Gwynevere was presented in the "flesh" as a giant, with all of her furnishing equally big, despite the fact that the door was tiny
I just killed Aldrich , couldn't feel more satisfied!!
Praise the moon .. *crying*

Golden Hardt thank you for freeing me
I know right? I always kill him with hate and also sulyvhan. But even in hate i cannot ignore they're might to defeats and rule over gods

The Illuminati he was frail and slow
His only skills were illusions and magic he makes the corridor infinite so he could buy as much time as possible his boss fight is just prolonging the inevitable
If you think smough and ornstein are an illusion, it would've been part of fighting gwyndolin, since he created them then it is still part of his powers or magic, and I tell ya, O&S are no easy fight.
I know this is very very late but, after you kill him his armor can be bought from doonhall
@@cyberninja7372 He was talking about ds3.
@@herrscheroflust oh ok
Gwyndolin: Im actually a boy-
Gwyn: NOT NOW, SWEETIE!
Nehuen Mutiozabal lol
Thanks for the kind words! I do put a lot of effort in to my content, it's much appreciated when the time is taken to comment and chat up some Dark Souls
=)
So let's get to it.
That's as detailed as it gets though on who the deserters were.
gOD DAMN IT. THE TEARS ARE REAL
Praise the moon! therefor Praise the trap!
Nice video editing
Awesome video. Thanks ❤️
Your videos are the best
among all lore videos about Gwyndolin i have seen, this one made me feel the most sorry for him T.T
I doubt he even cares if the Chosen Undead brings about the age of darkness, because it will still bring an end to Gwyn's eternal torment.
wow dude, goosebumps... dat editing, was awesome!
Damn, would've loved to see some connection to Velka and Gwyndolin.
Death is too good for Aldritch and the Pontiff
Good stuff! Well delivered, great artwork, and the intro sequence to the book backdrop was a nice touch. Smacking myself for not getting the "dark sun" allusion in the first place.
Damn i almost cried. This and the story of sygmier of caratina are my favs.
This is fantastic, excellent work on this Terra, you deserve a LOT more praise than you get for this!
Love the video, very nice spin on lore format, you really made it your own.
Dude keep making these Darks Souls videos! These are Great bro!
Disturbed1002 is right. He's "Flame God Flann."
I think Flann has a Lord's soul because in the prologue cinematic it says with the first flame came "Heat, Cold, Life, Death, and of course Light and Dark." Seeing as how each other element is represented by the deity who captured it --Gwyn/Light, Pygmy/Dark, Nito/Death, and Witch/Life --I believe Flann is the "Heat" part of that ordeal and there's still another previously unseen "Cold" Lord's Souls as well.
But that's complete speculation.
I love it. Well done. Your style is beautiful, and you made amazing choices regarding music.
Wow. That ending was beautiful. I never thought of it that way.
Anyway, for more on Gwyndolin I highly recommend this video:
Shadow over Lordran - Dark Souls Lore: Gwyndolin
Thanks for commenting and being part of this little community we have going here.
TerraMantis
i remember that someone said that dark souls 2 is most likely happening "at the same time" that dark souls 1.
it would be wierd, but it kinda makes sense no?
Wolf Pytlak
Dark Souls 2 is set thousands of years after the first game.
Damn it I think something's in my eye
sparticus785 Ugh these onion cutting ninjas
As sad as this makes killing Gwyndolin in DS1, Sunlight Blade buffed Obsidian Greatsword’s 880 AR is still 880 AR.
This is such an amazing work. Congrats !
Nice narration. You really arrested my attention.
Fucking awesome video dude. Your voice is perfect for the tone to.
I just subbed cuz of this. Absolutely outstanding! This and the Dark Lord one. Great channel, brooooo.
Really nice vid man, loved the book animation :D
hey great video, I loved the artsy look you did, but there were a couple things wrong with some of what u said in the video. 1. the GOW lost time itself which is why time is distorted in lordran, idk why they called it the annals of time... 2. gywndolin took over the darkmoon blade when velka fled lordran like gywnevre. 3. its believed that the way of white clerics were the ones that locked up the undead, but its possible that gywndolin helped. but since its lore I guess theres no right answer..
Wow!! That was great! And really emotional, I'm so sad for Gwyndolin right now :(. Really great work though!
I love Gwyndolin, he's one of the most interesting characters in the game. I watched this video with great interest and it proved very informative.
And for his troubles, he gets eaten by sludge
What a beautiful tale.....
you make it so muck sadder than it actioly is! i love it!
tht was great the style was simply perfect thank you for an amusing video :D
WOW!!! Great job on this wonderful video.
Actually i heard from another person on youtube who got a special lore book that "Andre" the Blacksmith were supposed to be the Sun's Firstborn, but in the end they didnt include it. I just checked and it is EpicNameBro who says it from the additional lore book only released in Japan.
What is this music? It is beautiful.
These.. are... amazing...
subscriber earned sir.
Aah, if only you got the same legs as Gwyndolin when you don the Moonlight set.
Awesome job Bro, really it's a great job!!! keep doing
I don't remember Vaati Vidya doing a video on Gwendolen; perhaps if you send him a link to this video he'll promote it, 'cause it is pretty good and he is a cool guy. Good material like this need more views.
Excelente vídeo! Thanks for made it for us :)
This poor poor child
WOW, just wow! I really liked your videos before but this now is some kind of art! Thank you for shareing it with us. (o:
Wow. This was amazing. Subbed.
Prepare o die??? More like Prepare to FEEL
I always pitied him. Especially in DS3 no one deserves to have their life stolen and have their corpse abused. Aldrich I truly despise more than any boss in the whole series.
I mean. Gwyn kinda sucks. But that could just be me personally.
really good job man
That was a really cool video, you just got my sub.
Gwyndolin may have not been loved by his family, but he finds love and appreciation with me 😥😔
TerraMantis around 3:42 you show Gwynevere leaving with (I'm assuming) Flann. Where did you come up with the attire/look of Flann? And can you assemble it in game? He looks sweet.
No, but I assume that on pc you could retexture certain armor combinations to achieve the look.
It's a picture of a Japanese assassin from the Assassin's Creed franchise. A fan painted it.
Wow, this was great! subbed
Finally high quality story telling
What's the background music??
truly a work of art.
3000 subcribers is not nearly enough... I'll have to do something about that.
Solaire is "shepherding the humans" Literally guiding and protecting them. Gwynevere left before or after Seath stole her maidens and turned them into pisaca experiments.
According to interviews, the devs originally intended that to be his lore, but removed it for some reason.
This just really makes me want to help him...
;_;
I got the pride Sephora ad before this.
Coincidence? I think not.
Make more of these please.

Let's not forget he has that wicked dropkick that no one else has.
Simply beautiful.
Its so good...
