- This Dark Souls Lore video covers the flooding of New Londo with a primary focus on Ingward -- one of the three Guardians of the Seal who warden the prison of the Four Kings. Some of the lore chosen is speculation, most is not. The Legends of Lordran Dark Souls Lore video series tend to also attempt to enter the psyche of the character the video is focusing on; imagining the Lore of Lordran from their perspective. So if some of the lore seems inaccurate it may be due to the fact that it's false because the subject of the video (Ingward in this case) is misinformed or does not know the whole truth.

Aric Vinyard or possibly killed the crimson sorcerer, and looted him?
That is the fascinating thing about Lautrec's whole storyline. He obviously had a plan, he had compatriots including very possibly the missing 3rd healer, his armour suggests he had either the favour of, or an obsession with a goddess and he killed the Firekeeper for a reason... and yet what was his plan? What was he aiming to achieve when he killed the Firekeeper? Who were those allies of his and why were they helping him? Who imprisoned him?
We don't know, because the answers died with Lautrec.
@@JamesTobiasStewart Lautrec wanted to end the never ending cycle of "chosen undeads" by killing their main base so they are lost from the beginning, I can tell because when you fail to kill him and come again he will refer to you as "these lambs rushing into slaughter" which obviously means he's killed many many "chosen undeads". He knows it is just a legend made up by the Gods and Lords
I never took the time to understand the lore in this game, as vague as it seemed, I was always consumed by thoughts of immediate threats and the obscurities that effect me in the present, and that of challenges to come. It wasn't until now that I learned why New Londo fell into chaos, but in doing so makes the game even more engaging and beautiful to me.

Might not have anything to to with it, but I realized lately that the mage that travel with Knight Lautrec of Carim when you invade him wear a crimson robe, but no helmet.

Four years ago, but beautifully done. I had a dark fascination with New Londo, despite that the place scared the shit out of me. These lore videos really add to the appeal of Dark Souls; and I like to show this one to people still unfamiliar with the series, as it helps them understand my obsession with this game. The five people I showed this chapter to, all were quiet and awed by it. I don't know how you did/filmed the underwater shots, but they are great. A bit late, (I just got the Vanilla version last January) but thank you, TerraMantis.
There is no hard proof he is a Sealer. We know Lautrec gives out a Sunlight Medal as a reward for freeing him, but his phantom is not golden when summoned. We also know he drops a souvenir of reprisal when killed but his phantom is not blue either. Meaning, he and his people kill and take things from others, i.e. the Sealer gear.
But whether I believe he is a Sealer or not is irrelevant. Check out the video description, hopefully that'll explain why I posed the unnamed Sealer the way I did.
Thanks. I didn't just invert the footage with Artorias to make him left-handed, I inverted all of the Oolacile footage whether he is in it or not. It was my little subtle way trying to make it seem "off" by just a bit; like the legend itself.

And when you discover what they flooded the city for, all you found was a few enemies that are about as strong as all the Silver Knights you fought against in Anor Londo...strong, but "flood the city!"-strong?
Take in mind that the inhabitants of Lordran are nowhere near as powerful as the Chosen Undead, and the Silver Knights were considered the elite of Gwyn's troops (the Black Knights are, after all, Silver Knights who fell when Gwyn linked the Flame). The Darkwraiths, with the Lifedrain ability, would be the scourge of all of the Dark Souls world, able to heal themselves with every fallen human or giant.

Yes, they did fight the Chaos Demons spawned by Izalith's Bed of Chaos, but Gwyn, when he sacrificed himself to elongate the First Flame, scorched the Silver Knights that accompanied him to cinders, leaving only the blackened armor behind, forever linked to the restless souls of the knights.

The Black Knights were burnt twice. Once when they were silver and turned black by the Chaos Demons and again when Gywn linked the flame. The second effected their souls more than their armor, causing them to wander Lordran aimlessly.

No, it is his set but with Silver Knight gloves and Elite Knight boots. His actual gloves and boots are withered and corroded. I didn't want to show the "actual" thing, I wanted to show the undamaged; the legend.

Seriously, these are some awesome ideas with video editing and story telling and I don't know for what I could've used the one and only 64th subscription, if not for this.
I understand for the most part this part of the lore of New Londo. However I do not understand the link between New Londo and the Chosen Undead. Ingward seems to understand what the Chosen Undead is after when he comes to New Londo. And it's obvious that the Four Kings have to be defeated for their Lord Soul shard. But what does Ingward gain in facilitating the Chosen Undead's mission? Is it the hope that he will replace Gwyn in the Flame and continue the Age of Fire as the most direct counter to the Abyss he sacrificed so much to contain? He must not be aware that the Chosen Undead may just choose to usher in the Age of Dark, effectively making Ingward's sacrifice obsolete.
Thoughts anyone? TerraMantis ?
If the Chosen Undead does not link the First Flame, an Age of Dark is guaranteed. A gamble is preferable to guaranteed doom.

I also believe that after Artorias was defeated in Oolacile and the player saves it instead, this was not known to the land who believe Artorias saved it. You may notice that the stone guardians and the scarecrows are both similar to the mossy giants and demon foliage respectively. Darkroot garden i believe therefore used to be Oolacile and to honour him they guard his grave and Sif as well.
Yeah... that’s actually what the game is trying to go for, in the present Artorias’ grave is literally in the ruins of the same colosseum you fight him in in the past, the arena where you face off against Kalameet eventually floods itself and becomes darkroot basin. And yes the mossy giants are literally the stone guardians who’s armor weakened by the passing of time.
You even made sure that your footage of Artorias showed him being left-handed. Well done.
The onlything i can complain about is the ringing sound at the beginning of your video drowned out your narration other than that great. As always

I heard of a theory that one of the sealers joined Lautrec. When you invade Lautrec's world in Anor Londo, the mage actually wears the crimson set (except for the mask)
That makes sense. It's implied that Lautrec is fighting the will of the gods and trying to prevent the linking of the fire. New Londo was flooded in order to stop the spread of the abyss and preserve the age of fire. It absolutely makes sense that a man forced to do such a great evil as destroying New Londo would turn on the beings that bid him do it and join Lautrec and the other rebels as a way of cleansing his conscience.

I think Yulva realised that she couldn't help blighttown or found all the inhabitants were dying, mutating, hollowing or a combination and thus killed herself seeing as there was no redemption for her.
I dunno what the hell kind of roof Ingward put on that little chapel where he stands, but it sure is the best protecting roof in the universe.

Artorias went to New Londo before Oolacile. It was in New Londo he made a covenant with Kaathe so that he could traverse the Abyss. He couldn't naturally, he needed the ring. That is confirmed.
he made the covenant with Alvina, shes guarding the forest his grave is in and leads you to sif (puppy) in the chasmn , if atorias was in new londo before Oolacile he'd either have died there or cleaned it of the abyss
JohnyMCness except it is said nowhere that Alvina is "a creature of the Abyss", but there are some hints that Artorias went to New Londo before Oolacile and fighted the Abyss there. The Silver Pendant is proof of that.

Artorias Hunting Darkwraiths in New Londo -> Forcing a Covenant with the Abyss' Creatures -> Got His Sword Cursed and earn Silver Pendant with the Nickname Abysswalker -> Oolacile's Fall -> Artorias' Corruption.
The Fall of New Londo is BEFORE the Fall of Oolacile!

Pardon my intrusion m'lord, but New Londo fell first before Oolacile and you stopped the Spread of Abyss in New Londo, hence you were given the Title Abysswalker and was granted the Silver Pendant by Lord Gwyn. It was then Oolacile fell afterwards and you were send to stop it and rescue the Princess. But the outcome of it, I dare not to speak of it.
So your saying Manus chilled underneath Oolacile spreading HIS abyss towards New Londo. Because you know why attack the city that tortured you into madness. OKAY. I'm saying Oolacile fell first but very soon after New Londo fell into Dark that ORIGINATED in Oolacile.

I know this video is old and all but I always thought that New londo fell before Oolacile, mostly because of the description of the silver pendant which says: "One of the ancient treasures of Anor Londo.

I know this video was a long time ago, but...
Is it possible that what happened in New Londo was exaggerated? Maybe the inhabitants of New Londo were attempting to form a rebel army, only using their Life Drain powers on criminals or those loyal to the gods, not on innocent people.
And then the Gods, not wanting the knowledge of Life Drain to get out, flooded the city and killed everyone. They then claimed the Four Kings were evil and corrupt, as propaganda.
Meanwhile, the Four Kings were trapped, and retreated into the Abyss. But at some point, after centuries of living down there, the Abyss either corrupted them or they went hollow. And the Abyss warped and distorted their forms, turning them into the monsters they are when you first encounter them.
Just something to consider.

More likely they farmed so much humanity with lifedrain which is literally used to take humanity. The excess amounts resulted in something similar to manus. A large amount of humanity that’s been twisted in some way from what it originally was that sends it into a violent state. It is said gwyn rewarded the 4 Kong’s for something. I think that something was the idea to farm humanity. Maybe idk.

My personal theory of the fate of the red robed guardians of New Londo:
One stayed behind to watch of the city, as was his duty to do so.
The second left for Blightown seeking redemption for abandoning her (his?) ways as a healer.
And I'm pretty sure you, the chosen undead, kill the third. Next time you fight Lautrec upon invading him, have a look at his mage companion. Do those robes he wears look familiar? Perhaps reminiscent of the robes of another red robed mage?
Perhaps. But I wonder then what caused a Sealer to join the likes of Lautrec? Doesn't seem like something the Sealer would have any incentive to be a part of. Maybe there is a connection between the Sealer trying to atone for his sin and Carim's connection to Velka Goddess of Sin.
TheApostleofRock I'm thinking a sealer wouldn't lower themselves to that level and instead was killed by Lautrec or his goons since it's been established Lautrec is a cold blooded thief and bandit
The companion of Lautrec is prob. the third sorcerer, since he wears the set excluding the head piece (which he prob. threw away of shame that he has no right to wear it).
Ingward is such a badass. He is the only thing standing in the way of the Dark Wraiths escaping. But its best that he didn't know that above the ground, things has gone to shit too.
Another well made and very interesting video. I've always found the fall of New Londo and the sealers to be very interesting and useful to describe and feel some aspects of the game. The only thing I would have liked more is to mention the third sealer (who I think is the one in the Lautrec world)

Will you be doing any more for Dark Souls 1 down the road after the legends of drangleic? You do an incredible job of exploring the psyches of characters in the game and I do look forward to seeing who you delve into for dark souls 2. Nashandra is without doubt an interesting start. Perhaps you could follow it with Vendrick or the lost sinner considering (SPOILER ALERT) how closely they seem to relate to Gwyn and the Witch of Izalith in terms of their roles. I've heard rumors that the lost sinner is a reincarnation of the witch of izalith and Vendrick just has a gwyn like role.
My thoughts on this lore is blurred. I believe that Artorias did face Kaathe and the Abyss in New londo and gained the covenant of Artorias for his efforts, after doing this he traveled to Oolacile to stop the abyss there. Sif acquired the Covenant from Artorias's body and this is why he drops it upon death.
I know this comment is 8 years old, but...
If the ring itself is named after Artorias, why would he be able to get it before he did anything note-worthy?

This is why I think that Kaathe is the one to blame for Oolacile. Since the same thing happened in New Londo. The city was being consumed by the abyss.
Once again, very good! But the one piece of advice I have is too work on your voice. When you speak low, it sounds very grumbly, like you're talking in the back of your throat. Other than that, this was chilling.

I personally feel new londo fell first as more evidence points towards it being first rather then oolacile such as the silver pendent , the crest of artorias and his swords and shields especially the shield because it has cleansing qualities likely bestowed upon it by ingward in new londo

I'm still not sure why Ingward just hands over the key to open the floodgate. Wouldn't it make more sense to leave the city flooded? The Abyss didn't seem like it was going to go anywhere and it seems like the Darkwraiths (or anyone else for that matter) can't swim. Did Ingward just assume that the chosen undead was going to slay the four kings?
He only gives you the key if you have the lordvessel. If you have the Lord vessel, you have killed several gofs, meaning you are powerful.
He also seems to realize you are working with Frampt, as he said he "trusts Frampt's judgement."
Although keeping the city flooded would seal the Darkwraiths, it also made obtaining their lord soul shard impossible, meaning the flame would never be able to be sustained. If the Kings weren't slain, the dark would have had taken Lordran anyways, and New Londo would not have mattered.
Why does the bequeathed lord soul of the four kings still looks like a flame? Wouldn't it be corrupted by the abyss like artorias' soul?

The third healer is supposedly Lautrec's wizard phantom. The only difference is he took off the hood.
Where did you find the name Yolva (spelling?) as one of the 3 Sealers from New Londo? It's cool that this ties in that person as the source of the armor set found in Blighttown.

In the time of Gwyn, wasn't New Londo a city of hollows? Renowned for its advance technologies, when Gwyn prepared for his death he gave its leaders the right to govern all of Lordran with Seath himself! But, when Gwyn died, hollows were deemed evil and persecuted by the church. Seath hid in his archives as those tall kin of Gwyn hunted for more power. Artorias led the battle against New Londo, but his death left only one option...

i feel like alot of these lore vids are just us making up story for the game, i think the Japanese just made a bland game and everytime one of these videos come out the creators are saying "yeah, yeah thats what we ment"
I don't have the interview quote, but Miyazaki explained that his inspiration for the game came from when he was young and read english texts about european lore. He wasn't able to translate everything so there was a lot of plot holes in the stories for him, which made him have to guess and piece together things with his imagination. He wanted to give the players the same feeling of wonder.
So really, the depth and content of the plot is entirely up to the player.
I don't think it's made up. There's no need for everything to be spoon-fed to you with dialog. Most of it is there, you just have to read between the lines. For example, if you go by the front gates of New Londo (the ones you unseal in the game), you will find a sickeningly huge amount of dead calcified bodies, not just small piles, but hills of corpses. You can simply discern most of the city tried to escape the flood and all of them died clamoring at the front gate while the sealers refused to let them out, and why two of the sealers were so horrified by this act they soon abandoned their post. You can also take it from there and assume horrors of that tale is the reason why Anor Londo was abandoned and all the "gods" who lived there fled for other places, out of fear of the approaching darkness. Not even Gwynevere wanted to stick around to rule over her father's entire kingdom and she simply chose to abandon Lordran. That's fear, that's terror.

He did the dark souls 1 lore, all of it, and the new dark souls games aren't as good as dark souls 1, not every person has a story, so it's really pointless covering only the few people with lore.
