Incredible review & comparison! Love the true side by side footage with identical footage. So many people do comparisons videos but don’t take the time to do side by side, or even manage to get the settings properly set. So I appreciate your effort and opinions here. Cheers!
On interior are pretty close in results, WS has a bit more details, but colors sometimes are odd, specially with trees on exterior. Its like it lacks IR filter or is not very effective the one installed. Something green looks washed out on WS. The instant i saw trees i knew WS was left and o3 right. Check 10:08 a container looks green on o3 but blue on WS, Odd color reproduction on WS. Not sure if its the IR filter or the color interpretation on the software side, no idea.
Looks amazing! Glad to see a company giving DJI much needed competition. Hopefully the next reindition can even do 4k/120, 10+ bit depth, bitrate, 422, log, and hdr, etc. Now we need companies challenging DJI’s monopoly on camera drones
Inside and low light the WS looks like the winner. I actually believed that was O3 so I was pleased to see it wasn’t. Now, like you said, some firmware updates to correct the balance outdoors and/or introduce flat color and WS will make me a happy man. I’m starting to actually feel like I chose wisely now when I went with WS over DJI at the beginning. Well until WS catches up and then DJI drops the O4. 😂
Just like what Joshua Barwell said, when all the brands think they can finally take DJI’s lunch, DJI release something new and leave them to eat dust, lol
I actually did a little bit of testing with the VRX and it performed great! I feel like this is where walksnail products will begin to outshine DJI. Backwards compatibility.
This would simplify my field rig if it works well with the VRX. I carry around a tripod and 10" screen for a live video feed to show clients what I'm seeing. Currently relies on a LattePanda (Powerful RaspPi) to convert the signal.
Great comparison! I would be interested to see footage with sharpness, contrast + saturation set to the minimum. The Moonlight might capture more details but it's also incredibly oversharpened..
Wow, initially I was sure the left would have been the O3 because the video on the right for that shot of the chains and the side paneling on the blue house was a blurry mess. Wow, all the indoor shots were easily better on the moonlight. The outdoor shots were kind of a wash between the two. Very surprised that Walksnail is now as good as it is! Thanks for the review.
I was also pleasantly surprised when I sat down at my computer to really compare the two. I've never been happy with the O3 4K capabilities so I was excited to see that level of sharpness on the moonlight. We just need that in 4:3!!
The walksnail looked sharper and the 03 looked softer. For me as a newbie entering the space its going to be hard to decide to go with walksnail or dji 03.
it's simple everyone compares a product to dJI. Your decision should be go with DJI. Thats what i did and the product has work just fine. And it seems i have the best product because it seems to be the bench mark. I don't sleep with DJI so i dont have to like them. I just use there product. LOL my 2 cents
Depends. If you like flying toothpicks 2-3 inch quads, there's no chance you get that bulky o3 unit inside. WS nano/lite can. Plus you get WS much cheaper. I run four quads all different sice from 2" to 7" LR with walksnail and couldn't be happier. It's reliable and cheap. I nearly get two air units for one o3 where i live. Money should't be an issue ofc.
0:06 my answer is walk snail is left clip! Edit: I knew it. I’ve been doing research into it and realized the moonlight has better image quality. O3 is trash in terms of image quality. I’d use moonlight without a go pro. I think its a better option for small cinewhoops
The moonlight 4k is using a native 16:9 sensor, so no matter what the largest fov is going to be in 16:9 with it. If it had 4:3 or a more square sensor then you could shoot native aspect ratio and crop/stabilize more but not with this cam. The WS V2 cam is 4:3 and does record 1080 4:3 when in 4:3 mode. If Caddx added a proper log, or even half decent "flat" color mode the moonlight 4k would instantly be a far more useful tool. You'd no longer be stuck with color science that clearly doesn't have the sheer size and wealth of DJI/Gopro behind it.
Just as walksnail catches . Dji will drop the 04 system. . Let's hope Dji listens a bit ... 4.3 4k totally agree . It would be nice if recording setting is separate to flying settings.
I wonder why the O3 footage is getting overly compressed? It might be the TH-cam compression. There's a ton blurriness on the O3 side in all of these compressions, at least on my TV. I know the O3 isn't THAT blurry.
In moonlight iyou can set EV to small negative amount like -0.3 and it solve the overexposure issue. Also I prefer to put the ND filter because if shutter is too fast the image does not look good at all.
It looks pretty good. The moonlight is oversharpened like crazy, but all the walksnail stuff is oversharp. Can you drop sharpness? On the 1s boards there is a sharp setting but if you change it, it will just snap back to "high".
Joshua Bardwell also reported that moonlight actually has more details resolution in good lighting condition. JB said that gopro makes no sense at this point except for people doing analog FPV.
Question is can they continue to improve and even innovate to keep up with DJI. Also, how much of where they are now can be attributed to having a partnership with DJI for the vistas and such? I guess we’ll find out in time. I wish DJI would come out with a different camera that you could pair with the o3 air unit for low light situation.
I ordered mine Moonlight kit yesterday, cant wait :) Are there any things i should know before starting with it? I would like to use it in a 7 Inch Freestyle/LR TBS Source one V5.
Thanks for the comparison video. Moonlight 4k looks better than DJI O3 for me. Too bad, I already got the DJI goggles V2 and 2 and don't feel the need of spending more money for another goggles.
I have a couple of questions. is it possible to exchange cameras for each other for example the DJI O3 on Walksnail Moonlight Kit. and Moonlight on the DJI O3 Air Unit?. last question is can one put the Walksnail Moonlight Kit on the Pavo20 Pro Brushless Whoop Quadcopter?
I want to use one of these for something other than drones, and I was hoping someone would show the step by step setup. Your video help but there are some things that weren't explained. Why is there both a 4k and a 720p setting? Is one for transmission and the other recording? What about recording on the receiver? I've been flying drones and doing photogrammetry for years but I just don' t know how FPV works and it's difficult to find info.
I'm installing my Moonlight on the drone, I think I should reduce the sharpness of the Moonlight and play with WB, ISO, Shutter speed. I still hope that Caddx will release the new firmware to get smoother footage. DJI probably will launch new camera soon, the O3 is already more than 15 months from the release date.
From my research, on one of the earlier firmware releases, there was a "flat" color option but it got pulled for some reason. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to test it out. Since there is already a color tab I assume there will be color options in the future. 10-Bit I'm not sure about

Hello, I just bought this model of camera and it is getting extremely hot. It gets up to 90 degrees when it's on the table and shuts down. Does your camera get hot? How can I cool the camera?
That's just normal. Mine reaches 110celsius when not moving while battery is pluged in. You need to enable the standby mode in your goggles for the walksnail vtx. The vtx will run at minimum output until you arm you quad. But be aware, after 5mins your vtx is already reaching hot temps. Try cooling with a fan
True, DJI keeps moving the finish line in terms of image quality and transmission. But WS is throwing their name in races DJI refused to. 1s vtx's, goggles with video in/out, low light capabilities, true backwards compatibility, future proofing, etc. There's always going to be some catching up to do with DJI's billion dollar r&d budget but the way WS is differentiating provides significant value to the product and our community.

god i disslike both, o3 might do decent for fast footage, seems smoother, the walksnail looks like a 30fps video where the o3 looks like 60fps, just alot smoother, but the image is blurry, the walksnail have a way sharper image, but the studdering, watching on a 2k 144hz screen, i really dont think either comes close to a action cam, i prefer the 4k 60fps footage from a insta360 or newer gopro, insta360 has amazingly steady image, and dont crop it like gyroflow does, i was kinda hyped for the moonlight kit, but i will be sticking to the walksnail pro kit instead, or the v1 kit, love walksnail, but that image isnt worth the money, neither is this 03 footage, didnt notice when watching the video, but ever detail when paused, nails in the building portio almost dissapear, details on the house gone, inside the thread basket, blurry like not wearing glasses.... will wait for 4k 120fps it seems

god i disslike both, o3 might do decent for fast footage, seems smoother, the walksnail looks like a 30fps video where the o3 looks like 60fps, just alot smoother, but the image is blurry, the walksnail have a way sharper image, but the studdering, watching on a 2k 144hz screen, i really dont think either comes close to a action cam, i prefer the 4k 60fps footage from a insta360 or newer gopro, insta360 has amazingly steady image, and dont crop it like gyroflow does, i was kinda hyped for the moonlight kit, but i will be sticking to the walksnail pro kit instead, or the v1 kit, love walksnail, but that image isnt worth the money, neither is this 03 footage, didnt notice when watching the video, but ever detail when paused, nails in the building portio almost dissapear, details on the house gone, inside the thread basket, blurry like not wearing glasses.... will wait for 4k 120fps it seems
