Me being a Sonic main, watching Seagull Joe's Sonic beat Zero's best top tier character's makes me proud and gives me motivation to become an amazing Sonic player like him. Thank you Seagull Joe, thank you :')
***** Since Sonic is the fastest character in the game it makes his pivot grab have more distance which makes it a lil tricky to pull off. It works best for me when I dash past my opponent then quickly turn around and grab them, you can even do his f-tilt as well if you wanna switch it up. I hope this helps you :)
+Aaron Edwards Seagull Joe beat a bad playing ZeRo. He got destroyed afterwards. Also, he went for way too many bairs. Seagull is a trash Sonic. Watch someone like 6WX, an actual GOOD sonic main. Seagull isn't even top 20.
My 2 cents: ZeRo wasn't himself in this game, you can clearly see his playstyle is different compared to other tourneys. He was throwing many attacks to the air, hoping one could hit, not respecting Seagull. Many mistakes were made by ZeRo, many attacks when clearly Sonic gets the advantage such as banana or peanut shoot against Sonic's side-B, or even attacking to Sonic's down-air. At the end of the match, I don't blame him for leaving ASAP, knowing how the majority of the community treats him, it would be best to just leave. The best thing would be to stay and shake Seagull's hand, but ZeRo was probably too affected with the real-life situations and then this loss. He might mention that on a video, who knows. After doing some research, apparently ZeRo wasn't feeling too well and was about to skip this tourney, but he went anyway. This is no john, if you participate and you lose, no excuses, you lose. Also, yes, I like ZeRo, I'm suscribed to him because of the amount of knowledge he shares with everyone, compared to other smashers. ZeRo cares about this community, even if it's just TH-cam's community, he does care. Hate. Many people do hate him or just follow the group who are anti-ZeRo's. Some just don't root for him all the time, like me. I like ZeRo but I also wanted him to lose, but not because I want to see him lose, but I want someone to match his skill and watch an epic match of sm4sh gods, sadly, in this match there's no ZeRo. Seagull won, ZeRo shouldn't deny that. I don't follow him on Twitter so don't know his opinion about this, but I'm sure he knows he didn't played how he really plays in tourneys. When he keeps participating on future tourneys and loses without any real-life situations affecting his gameplay, then we'll see when he really lost. That match will be EPIC. I really want to see people match ZeRo's true skill to watch matches with equal-skill level. This time, ZeRo wasn't himself, hopefully he fixes his real-life situations and keeps moving forward.

BLVCK trust me dude, i'm a sonic main, the only thing that stops a side B is a kirby inhale. you can spin shot out of a side B, and hit ness. if you want a true sonic counter, try falco. he has solid air(arguably better then sonic), and his down b and neutral b stop most of sonic's tricks.
BLVCK an optimal punish against sonic is to up air directly after shielding his down/side B. if it's a bad player, they will homing attack and you'll hit em. if it's a good player, then they will not be able to pressure you with airs. just be smart, sonic is all about his speed in both attacking and avoidance. the minute you start predicting a particular sonic is the minute you start limiting his actions, and therefore start luring sonic into traps and setups.
Besides ZeRo losing, the commentary is actually pretty good, isn't it? Like, they're pointing out crucial spots, analyzing on the spot. I like it when commentary can analyze, makes it easier for me to determine if the player is actually deserving of their wins. In any case though, as people said, ZeRo wasn't doing his best, but at the same time, he was still playing well. Joe was beating ZeRo at 90+% of his performance. So in other words, Joe has the skills and insight to take ZeRo down. ZeRo was seeing a lot of surprises from Joe's Sonic. Basically, ZeRo was sleeping on Joe's Sonic. I believe he didn't consider doing any real research on Sonic because Joe wasn't in any major tournaments and that's why Joe won. don't get me wrong though, Joe basically had perfect timing on a lot of his punishes on ZeRo, and he deserved the win. I just don't know how Joe will do the next time he and ZeRo faces off.

I noticed that Seagull Joe (Sonic) uses Side-B + Shield. I was kinda scratching my head at this one. Here's a guess on why he does this: - He can make Sonic face either direction while shielding (good against Shulk, I guess) - He can easily position his shield in front of him. I always find that difficult to do in Smash 4 since the controls are so responsive - He's feinting an attack. Any thoughts?
+Kealmir Everyone's got to lose sometime. There are a thousand factors that go into winning these matches. Emotions, focus, speicific matchups, practice, mistakes, hype, etc. and all of that happens every tiny moment of every match. So anyone is bound to lose eventually. The odds have been against Zero for a long time, I think.
Are you aware of the extra shield stun in the most recent patch? The patch came out on September 30 I think, and this match was played on either October 2 or 3, that is after the patch. ZeRo couldn't have punished Seagull Joe's Back Air on shield when he was Diddy Kong because of this. The set shouldn't have been best of 3 though, Best of 5 is better.
As a Sonic main, this was one of the most encouraging things I have ever seen. To think that my character took down the best smash 4 player in the world, has inspired me to keep improving my sonic.
Zero has been emotionally affected by something, so I think this will be the first tourney he'll lose. You can check his twitter, he wanted to drop the tourney, but decided to go through. He may have lost, but it wasn't when he was mentally ready to play. Which is a bummer cause I wanted zero to fucking lose when he was on top of his game.
So this is the match that sent him to losers bracket.... Wasn't all that exciting to watch.... But this guy is amazing! He was going through a rough time, was sent to losers, fought his way through losers bracket and still managed to win the tournament. That's inspirational!:D And this is coming from someone who barely got into watching Super Smash Bros Tournaments xD I've been watching other players and so far ZeRo stands out the most out of everyone else in Sm4sh

The year is 20XX. Everyone plays Sonic at TAS levels of perfection. Because of this, the winner of a match depends solely on port priority. The RPS metagame has evolved to ridiculous levels due to it being the only remaining factor to decide matches.

***** Since Sonic is the fastest character in the game it makes his pivot grab have more distance which makes it a lil tricky to pull off. It works best for me when I dash past my opponent then quickly turn around and grab them, you can even do his f-tilt as well if you wanna switch it up. I hope this helps you :)

My 2 cents:
ZeRo wasn't himself in this game, you can clearly see his playstyle is different compared to other tourneys. He was throwing many attacks to the air, hoping one could hit, not respecting Seagull. Many mistakes were made by ZeRo, many attacks when clearly Sonic gets the advantage such as banana or peanut shoot against Sonic's side-B, or even attacking to Sonic's down-air. At the end of the match, I don't blame him for leaving ASAP, knowing how the majority of the community treats him, it would be best to just leave. The best thing would be to stay and shake Seagull's hand, but ZeRo was probably too affected with the real-life situations and then this loss. He might mention that on a video, who knows.
After doing some research, apparently ZeRo wasn't feeling too well and was about to skip this tourney, but he went anyway. This is no john, if you participate and you lose, no excuses, you lose.
Also, yes, I like ZeRo, I'm suscribed to him because of the amount of knowledge he shares with everyone, compared to other smashers. ZeRo cares about this community, even if it's just TH-cam's community, he does care.

Many people do hate him or just follow the group who are anti-ZeRo's. Some just don't root for him all the time, like me. I like ZeRo but I also wanted him to lose, but not because I want to see him lose, but I want someone to match his skill and watch an epic match of sm4sh gods, sadly, in this match there's no ZeRo.
Seagull won, ZeRo shouldn't deny that. I don't follow him on Twitter so don't know his opinion about this, but I'm sure he knows he didn't played how he really plays in tourneys. When he keeps participating on future tourneys and loses without any real-life situations affecting his gameplay, then we'll see when he really lost. That match will be EPIC. I really want to see people match ZeRo's true skill to watch matches with equal-skill level. This time, ZeRo wasn't himself, hopefully he fixes his real-life situations and keeps moving forward.

BLVCK trust me dude, i'm a sonic main, the only thing that stops a side B is a kirby inhale. you can spin shot out of a side B, and hit ness.
if you want a true sonic counter, try falco. he has solid air(arguably better then sonic), and his down b and neutral b stop most of sonic's tricks.
BLVCK an optimal punish against sonic is to up air directly after shielding his down/side B. if it's a bad player, they will homing attack and you'll hit em. if it's a good player, then they will not be able to pressure you with airs.
just be smart, sonic is all about his speed in both attacking and avoidance. the minute you start predicting a particular sonic is the minute you start limiting his actions, and therefore start luring sonic into traps and setups.
Congrats on seagull joe for winning, that Xanadu practice really helped, I guess people shouldn't count Xanadu out anymore

Besides ZeRo losing, the commentary is actually pretty good, isn't it? Like, they're pointing out crucial spots, analyzing on the spot. I like it when commentary can analyze, makes it easier for me to determine if the player is actually deserving of their wins.
In any case though, as people said, ZeRo wasn't doing his best, but at the same time, he was still playing well. Joe was beating ZeRo at 90+% of his performance. So in other words, Joe has the skills and insight to take ZeRo down. ZeRo was seeing a lot of surprises from Joe's Sonic. Basically, ZeRo was sleeping on Joe's Sonic. I believe he didn't consider doing any real research on Sonic because Joe wasn't in any major tournaments and that's why Joe won. don't get me wrong though, Joe basically had perfect timing on a lot of his punishes on ZeRo, and he deserved the win. I just don't know how Joe will do the next time he and ZeRo faces off.
I love how they're talking up ZeRo literally the entire match until the last stock at like 90+ damage.

I was kinda scratching my head at this one. Here's a guess on why he does this:
- He can make Sonic face either direction while shielding (good against Shulk, I guess)
- He can easily position his shield in front of him. I always find that difficult to do in Smash 4 since the controls are so responsive
- He's feinting an attack.
Any thoughts?

Everyone's got to lose sometime. There are a thousand factors that go into winning these matches. Emotions, focus, speicific matchups, practice, mistakes, hype, etc. and all of that happens every tiny moment of every match. So anyone is bound to lose eventually. The odds have been against Zero for a long time, I think.
Are you aware of the extra shield stun in the most recent patch? The patch came out on September 30 I think, and this match was played on either October 2 or 3, that is after the patch. ZeRo couldn't have punished Seagull Joe's Back Air on shield when he was Diddy Kong because of this.
The set shouldn't have been best of 3 though, Best of 5 is better.

I have no problem with him working up his way in life in Smash, honest. However he was on a break, remember? If he still wasn't ready for this, he shouldn't have jumped the gun and entered only to see his streak destroyed.
Whatever his reasons, excuses, Johns, or whatever you want to call them are, the fact of the matter is that ZeRo lost, and he has no one to blame but himself. Seagull on the other hand showed that he was ready and capable of taking ZeRo on.
I might be a bit harsh on ZeRo right now, but I have nothing personal against him, I just dislike him as a Smash player. The year is 20XX. Everyone plays Sonic at TAS levels of perfection. Because of this, the winner of a match depends solely on port priority. The RPS metagame has evolved to ridiculous levels due to it being the only remaining factor to decide matches.
