I would add… don’t let relatives go into your Ball Python enclosure and just pull them out! I always wait until my girl is out roaming around to pull her out, I never disturb her when she’s cuddled in one of her hides. Over Thanksgiving, I was cooking and my son came in holding her. He had destroyed her enclosure trying to find her and pull her out. She was always a perfect voracious eater prior to that, I haven’t been able to get her to eat since!
Another tip is to hold them up over your head for awhile. Predators usually come at snakes from above. So, they see you above them, that can freak them out. If you hold them above your head for awhile, that helps them relax a bit. When my daughter's ball python was in a hunger strike, the first time, the vet recommended taking the snake outside for awhile on a nice warm day. Let it soak up the sun and the natural heat. Sure enough, he ate that night. Won't say it will work all the time. Today's high is 22 degrees, so, obviously, not always an option. For climbing, I got a compression-fit closet clothes rod. I wrapped and secured a fake vine, and then I wrapped the rod in thick twine to help give the snake a little easier grip. I see my guy climbing on it all the time. He spends about half his time up high, half his time slithering along the ground.
Chaos is likely not eating because it’s breeding season for ball pythons. A lot of male ball pythons (and some female, though it’s more common with male) will go off food during breeding season, which is typically between November and February.
Heya. My baba 2.5 yrs old is super active when yhe lights go out . My male is a pita and is currently on hunger strike . I never boop snoots ... ever. I do, however, get their snoop close to my ear to check breathing . Love your channel.
How long would u wait to give a live mouse over a frozen, if your python goes on hunger strike? I let my one picky eater go for about 6 months before I started worrying. I gave the live mouse and he ate it immediately. He then started eating frozen mice on a weekly basis ever since. About 8 months now. I tried all the tricks too with the frozen mice. Warm up body, rub rodent bedding all over it, etc...
It is hard to guess since each one is different. If you have a newborn/baby ball python I wouldn't allow it over a month without eating. It is critical for them to be eating and growing during that time. For an older snake, I would just check husbandry, go to a vet and make sure there aren't health issues, and if you just have a very picky snake you can go to the last resort which is live feeding.
@@reptiliangarden how do you know if you’re feeding the ball python the correct amount of food? Also when there in shed? I just wanna know everything there is to know since this is my first ball python
Sorry if I write this wrong, english is not my first lenguaje but they gifted me a little ball python 3 days ago and is in a plastic box, they told me he would be fine there but after I bought a thermometer and hygrometer I noticed that the temperature is low like 77°F inside the box but when I cover the holes in the lid the temperature raises but also the humidity to 80% and I believe that's bad for them. Also I don't want him to live in a box so I bought him an enclosure, it's just a little bigger than the box because he is a baby, he is 5 months old, but now I don't know if it's a good idea to change him to the new enclosure but also I don't know if it's a good idea to let him be in the box when the temperature and humidity don't seem right, he seems stressed and I don't want him to be more stressed, please help he is my first snake and I just want him to live comfortably and happy
Crepuscular reptiles like ball pythons do not need uva or uvb. This is true for most snakes. There are some rare exceptions. Side note- I've noticed when you use a uvb bulb with a snake, it seems to brighten the colors a little bit. Other than that, no need.
@@hylaarborea1090 I know. They are active at dawn/dusk. I've heard people say they put on a uvb bulb because it brightens the colors.ive seen pics but don't know what the snakes looked like without uvb. I don't know if they mean the light itself makes the snake brighter, or if it's scientifically changing the color pigments. I'll ask a pro at the next expo i go to. All snakes need is a heat mat.
Natural sunlight can be beneficial! Number 8 was mainly just about having some sense of the time of day either from light outside, or using light in your setup to mimic daytime! That way they have 12 hours of some light, and 12 hours of darkness to replicate night and day! UVB is a great option to give them during the day!

check their weight, too. If they are not losing weight over the course of their hunger strike, they are probably ok.

about number 8. do you think that it is necessary for them to sometimes get sunlight and for how long?
Its not necessary at all. In the wild they sit inside termite mounds /holes during the day and are out and about at night, so they dont really see sun

Ha my corn snake goes into peoples armpits to lol
How long do your ball pythons usually take to poop?
Around once a month if they are eating once a week
Some only poop during shed
Maybe you should wear shades when the sun is in your face lol
I would look way cooler in the video at least lol
