GREAT Video! I just had to replace a battery AND a headphone jack in one of these and this video helped out a LOT! Also, if you're using this video to replace the headphone jack or the battery, keep in mind that there are certain steps that do not need to be done, in my case, the removal of the power button and antenna from the silver back plate. It's so nice to have my volume controls back and a better battery life due to the new parts! Excellent video!
Had to put the spare on my car and found an iPod underneath it in the trunk. It had been there for AT LEAST the two years since I bought the car. I don't know if it got wet, or got road salt in it, or the battery leaked or what, but it was basically one big gob of corrosion. I was totally unable to fix it, but your video was extremely helpful in taking it apart so I could look at the insides.
@norwegianspace - It could be the antenna, or it could be that the antenna came disconnected. I'd pop it open and have a look or have it professionally diagnosed.
@Powerbookmedic Your video was very very detailed and well explained i liked it alot, i got a question i buddy of mine sold me his ipod touch but said the screen was not responding to the touch any possible way that the cable thats connected on the screen is not connected rigght or is loose that why the screen is not responding the my touch?? Thanks again!
My gen 1 wasn't powering on, so I replaced the battery. It comes on now, but it won't charge or recognize that it's plugged in anywhere. Is this a problem with the battery or the logic board/dock connector?
You'll either need to replace the volume cable or the logic board. The only way to tell is to change out the components. The components are available from our website.
I like all of your take apart guides, i just find hem interestig :) and if i need a guide ill watch your videos. just wondering, what is the music that is playing?
THANK YOU now i understand and now know the name of the part i need to fix my ipod touch the logic board!do you know where i can find a working one for around 20 dollars?
Just a quick question. Would you be able to fill me in on exactly where the earphone jack is located when disassembling ? I have a 1st generation iPod touch and the jack is broken I would like to replace it as well as the screen and back plate. So I just need to know what I'm removing and what I need to purchase in order to be successful and not mess up or discard of something important. Thanks much appreciated.
@chiso165wh Your problem is that when a normal Ipod shuts off, a tiny amount of current is still passing through the chipset, just enough to know what to do when the power button is held (to power on) and to keep a consistent time (system time). In PCs you have a button battery to do this, passing only current to the CMOS BIOS. In this case, there isn't enough space for that so all of the power, big or small, comes from the battery. Something is wrong with either the battery or its logic!
Do you have a video on how to replace iTouch 1G home button? I have a home button that got stuck. So I bought a new button to replace it and I'm having trouble fitting it in the hole that I'm replacing. I'm not sure the new button I have is for iTouch 1G or for other iTouch versions.
I had the the same problem and it was just that the black cable going to the battery should be carefully sold. I don't know if that could work for you.
love this video, I have the iphone 1 gen, and half of my phone works, and the other half don't it fell into water. it charge well and it works ok, it just that certain parts on my Iphone is not touch able at all. Can you help please I would like to try to fix it
With what does the power button interface? It is apparently independently floating since it is attached to the outer cover, and simply rides away with the cover when you remove it. It attaches at the top and runs down the side, but where does it plug / interface with the rest of the ipod ? Put another way, how do I fake out the ipod and power it up with the cover off ?
What do you do when the replacement battery for the 1st generation iPod Touch only charges 1/4 of its capacity and 'drains' all its power when connected to a charger or syncing by wire? I'd like to know, I soldered my new one in and seems to fare no better than the broken one I removed.
@PowerbookMedic Unfortunately it doesn't work like that... I have the same problem, no wifi, in my case I had opened it up once before and it ripped the antenna out... yea my fault. But I now have a second Ipod 1st gen and having opened up both, I can clearly see you cant just replace the antenna... everything is connected using incredibly thin buses. you basically need to replace many components just to replace the antenna...
Hi I was wondering if you guys might be able to help me. I have a first gen itouch and apparently wont turn on. My question is if its the battery that needs to be replace? or the logic board because everytime i connect it to charge it heats up quickly where the home button is even though it wont turn on.. So what can i do?
Welp I followed the guide, replaced my LCD, and put it back together. Seems to be working, except I managed to get my home button stuck, so I guess tomorrow I get to take it apart again lol. It's okay, I'm actually finding this tinkering a lot of fun.
@lollypopzere13 the logic board IS the iPod. When you buy an iPod you're pretty much paying for the logic board. You might as well buy a whole new iPod. They go pretty cheap on ebay.
If your IPod went through the washer and it still doesn't work after you've put it in rice for a week what components will have to be replaced? It's a 1st gen
I need ur help. My iPod has no sound. It used to have a sound bar what I could adjust while watching vids and now it doesn't even show up. I can't even adjust the sound using the buttons on the side of the iPod and the sound sometimes starts to work if I hold it still for long but that's very rare. What can I do
hello my ipod wont connect to the wifi and the wifi option is like in light gray i wanted to know what is the part that needs to be replaced and where can i get it ? thanks
my ipod touch gen. 1 got a bit of water inside the screen has dimmed down and now the touch screen isnt working so i can't access anything on it. Could the touch screen be the problem or is there other components damaged?
i need your help, i can only charge my ipod when its turned off, when i try charging it when it on, the battery only goes down slowly until it turns off. i think it might have gotten little water inside once before this started happening. how can i fix this problem?
use caution when putting the micro sized screws back on its takin me 4ever to do it. my best bet is to use a screwdriver with a magnet. much easier and it saves u time.
I accidentally left my 1st gen on my window sill during winter and it froze. It works fine but when you go to connect it to wifi, the wifi tab is greyed out and I cannot connect it to wifi. What would be the problem? Is it the hard drive?
@abbass92 I did the same thing I thought the headphone was the prob so I got my money back then my bro said probably it is the iPod so I tested it and it was the iPod and now my home button won't work it is pressed in couse my bro through it against the wall . The screen isn't broken and everything works fine but I can't press the home button
If it's in recovery mode, iTunes should still recognize it. If iTunes doesn't recognize it, then you'll likely need to replace the logic board to fix the issue. The part is available from our online store or by calling us at 866-726-3342, option 1.
hi i have an ipod touch first gen and it charges and everything seems to work out fine except when i plug it in to the computer it doesn't show up on itunes or computer. it charges but does not show up. i have the new itunes tried different cord but nothing works . i dont know what else to do. please help me
My left side of the headphone does not work, I tried 8 different headphones, earphones and other stereo systems and still the same problem. The problem is from the iPod touch, is there a way to fix it without having to change the logic board? I have the best music collection and I can't afford to risk anything..
Ok the biggest problem I have is I can't open the damn thing, iv tried putty knife iv tried the proper tool kit, I have spent half hour trying to pry it open, it's only ever one corner that's come apart, and from there you would think it easy to work around but nothing else comes up. How do u get it to actually come apart!
Help please ! My iPod's touché (first gen.) power button (sleep button) dos not work ! The iPod works, I can charge it and all and still connect it to my laptop and all , but when I press the top button nothing happens , please help !!!!
MY Ipod had a critical error and needs to restore, when I try to restore however, I get either unknown error 9,8 or rarely 1611, I've googled it with little success, do you guys have any idea?
GREAT Video! I just had to replace a battery AND a headphone jack in one of these and this video helped out a LOT! This helped a ton. I broke apart two iTouch 1's to swap out parts and make one working one. Thank you so much. I couldn't have done it without this.
I watched a lot of videos, and this one made the most sense, great work
Nicely done. Best 1G Touch guide I've seen.
Watching your video, I was able to verify the correct positions for the 3 wires connecting the battery to the motherboard. Thanks!
Best video guide on TH-cam

Thanks dude, I had a broken headphone jack in my 1st gen touch for over 10 years!! This video showed me how to fix it! Awesome..
Martyn Mcdonald Glad we could help!
@norwegianspace - It could be the antenna, or it could be that the antenna came disconnected. I'd pop it open and have a look or have it professionally diagnosed.

This looks great but erm how do you put it back together? I have searched around but you seem to do the better videos for this sort of thing?
Go back into the unit to verify all the connections are properly seated.
@cupcanto - I believe you are referring to the dock connector.
My gen 1 wasn't powering on, so I replaced the battery. It comes on now, but it won't charge or recognize that it's plugged in anywhere. Is this a problem with the battery or the logic board/dock connector?
@1992Raiden - No, you need to use a 1st gen battery.
You likely need to replace your battery. It's possible the issue is due to the logic board, but the battery is the first thing you should change.
Thanks!!!! I actually broke the little cable going to the headphone jack but I re-soldered it and it works perfectly!!
As an aspiring tech I wan to say thank you
The dock connector is likely defective which would require changing out the logic board. Replacements are available on our website.
You'll either need to replace the volume cable or the logic board. The only way to tell is to change out the components. The components are available from our website.
@carviper2 - You'd have to replace the logic board, and no, they aren't interchangeable.
It could be the digitizer or the logic board. The only way to know for certain is to change out the components.
I like all of your take apart guides, i just find hem interestig :) and if i need a guide ill watch your videos.
just wondering, what is the music that is playing?
@chiso165wh - Either it is a bad battery or it isn't properly soldered....Worst case, it could be a logic board problem.
wasn't easy but I was able to repair my home button because of this video. Thanks!
THANK YOU now i understand and now know the name of the part i need to fix my ipod touch the logic board!do you know where i can find a working one for around 20 dollars?
@bonusproductions - You'd need to replace the logic board.
Thank you so much.. i was taking one of this apart and i wasn't sure how to take certain parts.. So thank you.
Just a quick question. Would you be able to fill me in on exactly where the earphone jack is located when disassembling ? So I just need to know what I'm removing and what I need to purchase in order to be successful and not mess up or discard of something important. Thanks much appreciated.
@MrFLExin - You likely need to replace your sleep wake button. Using superglue anywhere is an extremely bad idea.
You'll have to replace the digitizer to fix the issue. The part is available from our website.
A lot of thanks!! n.n, I used your same tools. My home button was sunk, i had to remove the logic board and put tape over the white contact paper.
YOU ARE THE BEST,,THANK YOU!!!!!

Something is wrong with either the battery or its logic!
Will it work when I put it back together after taking it apart, and how to I repair the front button, ? :)
That's my understanding but i just wanted to get it clarified. Thank you.
By replacing the digitizer will the touch screen work?
Do you have a video on how to replace iTouch 1G home button? I have a home button that got stuck. So I bought a new button to replace it and I'm having trouble fitting it in the hole that I'm replacing. I'm not sure the new button I have is for iTouch 1G or for other iTouch versions.
You likely have an issue with your logic board and will need to replace that component.
I had the the same problem and it was just that the black cable going to the battery should be carefully sold. I don't know if that could work for you.
Most likely the logic board, but it would be best to have the unit professionally diagnosed.
The digitizer is the touchscreen, so yes it should.
You likely have a problem with your logic board. Replacements are available from our webstie.
In the minimum the logic board, though any number of other components could be defective as well.
love this video, I have the iphone 1 gen, and half of my phone works, and the other half don't it fell into water. it charge well and it works ok, it just that certain parts on my Iphone is not touch able at all. Can you help please I would like to try to fix it
do u have a video that shows how to put the ipod together
@norwegianspace - You'd likely just buy a replacement part and replace it.
dude would i have to remove the battery to replace the headphone jack input??? or can it just come out on its own???
please respond thank you =]
Can you use something different to stick the front and back cases together?
It's located at the top of the unit where the hole for the headphones is.
@PowerbookMedic I found out that it works when Its got headphones in but it don't work when I take them out.
@lost619 - Follow the steps in reverse order. We currently don't have guides dedicated to reassembly.
With what does the power button interface? It is apparently independently floating since it is attached to the outer cover, and simply rides away with the cover when you remove it. the green antenna board thats adheared i accidentally completely ripped off.. what should i do? do i need it?
If it won't turn on when plugged in, then you likely need to replace the logic board.
Try a different ipod cable or another machine, some times it's the cable or the power jack
my head phone jack is broken where can i order another for my ipod touch 1st gen?

my ipod touch gen. 1 got a bit of water inside the screen has dimmed down and now the touch screen isnt working so i can't access anything on it. Could the touch screen be the problem or is there other components damaged?
@cupcanto - No, they are different.
my ipod touch 2nd generation wont charge ! I Need Help
You'll need to replace the logic board to replace the dock connector.
That is likely a logic board or battery issue, but it would require a professional diagnosis to determine exactly what the cause of the problem is.
You should just need to change out the headphone module. They are available from our website for $14.95.
my dock connector is broken, that component can be changed ?
how do u have no scratches on ur ipod touch back?
Either your new battery is defective or you have a logic board issue. It's most likely a bad "new" battery.
i need your help, i can only charge my ipod when its turned off, when i try charging it when it on, the battery only goes down slowly until it turns off. i think it might have gotten little water inside once before this started happening. how can i fix this problem?

Yeah so glad owns just practicing on an old crappy one, got it apart but something broke off!
This for this I tried taking the back off a long time ago and it just wouldn't come apart,
Follow the steps in reverse.
