That jump from the boat to the dock... holy crap,I'm 57 and not sure if I could've done that. I think we can all take a lesson from Harold as in just keep moving. Really great video and 'interview.' I"m 68 that slightly older guy has it going all right. The biggest lesson, though, is get yourself shaped up to be able to do this as early as possible in your "retired" life. Try to have a 'trade' or two that you can use to put extra coins in your 'cruisin' kitty,' and get out there as soon as you're comfortable with your pension, social security, etc. You want to work enough so that one day you realize you get paid just for waking up and breathing. Then just get out there and do it and please share your adventures with us out here!

    Ahoy there, Brother Backwater Brenton!
My binge-watchin' voyage has led me to this escapade, you and Wavey, that delightful beagle, in them Nosy Beagle Interviews-what a rivetin' tale it was! Trackin' down Ol' Capt. Harold Petersen and his hand-built trawler, "The Tooty Boat," a yarn that'd make ol' Tom Sawyer envious, I reckon.
I'm mighty intrigued - can Harold truly void the hoosegow when steerin' that handcrafted wheel with his very own feet while under the influence? And that there "Beer Drinkin' Camera! GENIUS! A backup camera alertin' him of the followin' floating fuzz, well, now, that's a feat of managin' maritime mischief worth a tale or two!
And if I may jest a tad, could there be an investigatin' voyage in the offin'? An experiment to gauge the real impact of captaining a trawler under the sway of spirits at a gentle five-mile clip? A touch of backwater scientific investigatin', perchance? "How much damage could ya do goin' seven/eight miles an hour?" Golly! I'm mighty curious to know.
Your way of unveilin' the humanity and ingenuity of the Shanty Boat community is a sight to behold. Revealin' the soul of these folks, their creativity floatin' atop the waters of authenticity-it's a picture that sticks to the mind like molasses to a spoon. And that quip, "I'd take the boat over the wife"-might just explain your chronic bachelorhood, or so the Mississippi whispers.
Allow me to toss a few queries into the cauldron of conversation: Brenton, what inspirations did ya glean from Harold's boat design that shaped your later builds? And pray tell me more 'bout these 'Rebel Ports', are they sanctuaries servin' senior sailing scofflaws skirtin' the Sherriff like you and ol' Capt. Harold? A tale that's got me more curious than a catfish in a kitchen.
Here's to more tales from the Nosy Beagle Interviews, where the currents of wisdom run deep, and the winds of adventure carry us far! I'm slowly but surly catchin' up to your real-time vlogs, becomin' more beholden with each binged episode.

Great video. Love the Coastal Cruiser! It would be interesting to have some additional dimensions, such as interior beam and headroom in the pilothouse and cabin. Headroom looks super-abundant but the camera can be deceiving. Also curious as to why the builder raised the cockpit so high (necessary if a sterndrive was installed), with all the up and down that entails, when using outboard power that didn't necessitate such a high cockpit. Cheers!

Hi Erik, you're asking about the beagle barge and the Vagabond? They both have their pros and cons. The Vagabond is great for aomw stuff, while the barge is greta for others. I've finally settled on 3 boats (the other being a fishing boat) I think a boat person can definitely justify having at least 2 or 3 boats to do different stuff. The barge is comfortable, for long trips like the loop. That's what I love most about it. We slipped up to a beach tonight that was around 1 foot deep. Just slide up on the sand. I walked it out when we left to 3 feet, jump inside and go. That's hard to beat ;)
