    Bought my 85 T-Top in similar condition 3 years ago. I used marvel mystery oil in the cylinders to free it up. It had sat for 20 years all the fluids had gelled lol.

    Always had a weird want for an aero T top car.
    Tool wise you may want to invest in a cheap borescope. They make ones that work with your phone. Comes in handy for more then checking out an engine. Used one to help find dropped tools and all sort of things.

    • @albertgaspar627
      @albertgaspar627 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      always loved the T birds over those (had a turbo t bird before my 86) but they aren't a bad look when done correct. agree on the borescope and a $20 infrared scanner gun. You'll always know if your temp guage is correct (1986 Fords tend to have an issue with the voltage regulator in the gauge panel) and can always use it elsewhere around the house.

    Looks like a great score ! Have You ever tried to use Marvel mystery oil to break the engine free I found that it works very well for Me . I would still go through the engine especially if it's a number matching block .
    Best Wishes and Thanks for the update . 🇺🇲🇵🇷🦊👍

    When I graduated in 1985 I wanted a bright red with grey interior 5 speed 1985 GT hatchback with a sunroof. I did test drive one but didn’t have the money for it. I got a 5.0 4 speed Pace Car in 1987 instead.

    Good Buy & video Chris. It really IS a Nice car. Being from MI It's well appreciated & It would make a Great Project car for your friend's son. 4 eyed T-Tops Are *Scarce* (Rarity?? eh... ) You certainly Don't see many 4-eyes at car shows let alone Ford shows With the T-Top Option !!! I have an '84 GT T-Top Believe me I look & Notice. Certainly a Stallion to Be Saved.

    That would be a good first project. Those engines are stupid simple to rebuild with a manual. My neighbors 15 year old daughter is rebuilding an 81 coupe while he and I fly overwatch. He bought her a SA Designs "How to build a small block Ford engine" book and made her look up all the torque values and make a chart for every bolt on the car before she even started. She's supposed to be paying for it all but her birthday is coming up so I'm pretty sure Stock interiors is going to "miss ship me a 79-81 mustang molded carpet" to me for my 80 Fairmont project.

    I wish I saw this video when it came out. I am in Austin, and I am looking for a red T top car to fix up. One of my best friends in high school had a red '83 with t tops. I tweaked his engine (timing and carb) and he could lay down rubber all the way through 1st gear. Not bad for "only" 175hp. His gas mileage went from 15mpg to about 10mpg LOL.

    That car is a great find. It's close enough to original If I were you I would personally keep it and it restore it to stock. Absolutely worth it in the long run as you will get good money for it and it's not a basket case with tons of rust. I would be curious if that is the original engine and if you can save it.

That year from factory could do 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds according to road and track. Faster than camaro and trans am that year. I found in the Grove box where the people had financed it when new from a bank and they had payed over twenty thousand dollars for it after financing. I only payed $3900.00 for with 750000 miles on it. That is the year they had stainless headers and roller tappets and aluminum intake with a 585 cfm holley 4 barrel carb from factory . Sweet motor. The car would actually white smoke the tires.
