    After watching this, I went outside and checked my own storm drain catch basins. And boy were they full of junk. Dug out lots of debris, decomposed leaves, mud and gravel. All of a sudden they drain much faster now :-D

    In those cases with mud,you can stir that with some detergent in it.
    liquid dish soap works good,it will break down the mud and reduce its viscosity.

    Great job with the camera angles. When I see the water starting to flow I will look at the time remaining for the video. This time I was pleasantly surprised to see about 2/3 time remaining when things really started flowing. It is somehow satisfying watching you clean these drains. Thank you for sharing and keep the great content coming!!

    You know what might be a grand idea? Take a 45° or a 90 plumbing elbow, cut a notch on the inside of the elbow wide enough for your hose to pass though then attach a broom stick or extendable pole to the outside. This way if you have a deep one like that you can use the attachment to direct the nozzle right into place so you don't have to find something else or climb down.

    That's the trouble with soil ... in sitting water it will just drop out of suspension instantly and block the sh!t out of everything. Even if you get a bit of a flow going some of it will still settle and gunk things up again. Good job here!

  • @christinareid7810
    @christinareid7810 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    One would think if this guy would have done this much "helping" during his normal job, he wouldn't have had to call Oliver out to clean out the drain. Nothing that a hose and routine maintenance could have prevented.

  • @daveycrocket4873
    @daveycrocket4873 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I would have scooped that muck out with the shovel or somehow. Trying to push all that down the drain will just clog it up further down the line.

  • @themetalstickman
    @themetalstickman 5 ปีที่แล้ว +58

    I'm no expert, but wouldn't flushing all the sediment down the pipe lead to a blockage further down the line?

    • @abysspegasusgaming
      @abysspegasusgaming 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yes and no. The high pressurized water would essentially shred, with some exceptions, almost everything to where it can flow down the lines. Of course the water could evaporate which can cause issues, but then that would be a civil issue since the refuse is likely in the city sewer by that point.

    Why not have it vacuumed out to get rid of the sludge? I see the problem just moving from one catch basin to the other.

    • @GGigabiteM
      @GGigabiteM 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That was easily several hundred pounds of soil, vacuuming it out would have taken forever.
      That pit is also of shit design. Not only does it have the huge grate on top, but it also has what looks like a 6-8" inlet with a single 3-4" outlet for all of that. It's going to get blocked again in no time.
      If it were my problem, I'd get a jackhammer and break the wall between the pits to either install a larger pipe or re-brick it with a large opening.
