Thanks Max. I had a look and qGroundControl does look a lot nicer. But, the setup part seems to be less complete than MissionPlanner, as in the parameters need to be text edited more. I could be wrong, but the OSD setup seems to be missing. For the first model, I’m not worried about the ground station element. I’m using an L9R. But I will download it and take a look. The mission part definitely looks better.

About to give it away for the night and followed the link to your video and spotted this at 1:24 "Crossfire support only exists in “latest” 4.1, not stable 4.0.x, if you load “latest” then Set SERIAL7_PROTOCOL = 23, RSSI_TYPE = 3". Yes, I was using Crossfire. This is the fourth day of this project after making the quad work on INAV first. I spotted that comment in Tips earlier but I didn't have the knowledge to understand it. Thanks for this video. I just received the v2 version of the h743-wing and was impressed that Matek links to this video in their notes section. I found that I was not able to flash ArduPlane using the STM32 application. It would always give me a startup operation error after the download. I ended up erasing the chip with STM32 and then flashing the ArduPlane firmware with BetaFlight, ensuring that I had erase chip disabled.
Thanks Mike. It seems like it’s not so straightforward to get ArduPlane on these H743 boards. And even then there are issues. I’ve seen a few people who keep having to re-flash and setup their config as ArduPlane loses it. At this point, I think I’ll keep to F based processors for this. Didn’t know Matek were using my video. That’s pretty cool.
Thanks for this great video. I usually use pix family (cube, durandal, and pix32), so this is my first FC that didn't come with Ardupilot firmware from the factory. I was beginning to worry that I had received a dud! I simply could not get it to be recognised when trying any of the other convoluted methods. Your instructions took four minutes start to finish. I’m getting there. The are thing that I’m missing, and things that I think are done better in iNav. But I’m at a stage now where I can throw a plane in the air. I’m sure that it will fly great. But I think both firmwares can learn from each other.

Thanks Lupalas. I’m glad it helped. I’m learning ArduPlane myself at the moment, so the other videos will come, but they will take a little time, as I want to get things right. I have another plane that I have just set up with ArduPlane, so I’ll use that as a test bed to understand the basics to get people flying, and will then make some videos. I should still be new enough to have them from a beginners perspective too.

Maybe I will. But I’m still getting to grips with ArduPlane myself. It was a huge pain to set up on a Matek F405-STD. But it is flying now. I will be making an update video, as I couldn’t find any when I tried to do this recently. There wasn’t even any documentation. Not good when you’re trying to update for the first time.
Totally your call. At the moment I’m missing some of the things that are taken for granted in iNav. Stuff like SmartAudio, which seems to be missing. Also, the launch mode seems like an after thought as it needs to be tied in to a mission. I’ve just got my first model set up though, so will give it a fly and see. I will make some more ArduVideos though. Just because I think its good to try things, then RC pilots can make their own minds up. Personally, I am thinking both firmwares have their places for different circumstances. Also both firmwares could learn from each other, each has areas they do better and worse.
It doesn’t always work. This particular FC was a prime example of that. It would not flash with INAV or BetaFlight. Hence this way of flashing using the official tool.
Hello Darren, greetings from Germany, very good video!! On the Inav or Ardupilot decision, there are pros and cons to both systems. I have tried both autopilot systems for several years for some simple and high performance electric motor gliders and diy endurance copters. Ardupilot is much much better for gliders in maintaining speed and stall prevention in thermal flying. Glide performance in FBWA mode increases significantly, especially with the addition of a pitot tube. Inav in a high performance glider with engine off in angle mode (=stabilize in Ardup.) is incredibly bad, speed is not maintained, especially after direction change you have to constantly adjust speed suddenly the glider is too slow sometimes too fast. Mixer tab in Inav on the other hand is extremely well solved, this mixer tab in Ardupilot would be a dream. The settings in Ardup. are a nightmare. TECS system (syntetic) airspeed handling in Ardupilot is a masterpiece. The best parts of both systems in one, that would be brilliantly good. Best regards, Ingo
Hi Ingo. I've not flown ArduPlane yet, so I can't really comment on that. Though iNav doesn't really have anything specialised with gliders in mind. This is a reason I am putting ArduPlane in my Ranger 2000, so I can experience that. Same with an airspeed sensor, in ArduPlane, it's functional for closed loop throttle and things like that. But in iNav, it's currently really only for data. But, I'm holding off on conclusions until I've flown both. I'm actually hoping to do a back to back comparison at some point. But, I'm thinking ArduPilot will be better for larger aircraft, cruises, and long range. Whereas I think iNav may feel better for acrobatic, fast, ripping around flights. As for the PC software, as far as configuration goes, I still prefer iNav. I just think MissionPlanner hides too many useful things away in the parameters list. However, it is much improved from the last time I attempted to play with ArduPlane, and ended up just re-flashing iNav as I was pulling my hair out with MissionPlanner, and ArduPilot's own wiki was incorrect for the flight controller I was using. But there are hangups that used to exist, which have now been fixed. My biggest issues at the moment with ArduPlane are the missing features. For example, SmartAudio. However, I believe that will be in 4.1. I wish they would implement the FrSky PixelOSD too. I've not checked if CRSF is supported, but saw old posts where is wasn't. I also find having the autolaunch feature linked to a mission a bit strange. If you want to launch and loiter, it seems you would have to set up a new mission at every location, which isn't good for casual FPV. It would be nice if autolaunch was separate, like the iNav system. But if you have a mission with a launch, that overrides the default launch settings. Overall though, I think each will have their areas of excelling and of needing improvement. I'm looking forward to trying it. My S800 is now ready to go, and I'm just waiting for us to be allowed to fly again because of CoViD-19.
@@MrD Hi Darren, you are right, there are different areas of application for INAV / Arduplane. It is sometimes difficult when you have your own application somewhere in between or need a very specific application. Setting up an aeroplane with Arduplane via MissionPlaner is also not really intuitive, but when you have it running properly, it's really very good. There are still some features missing, but more and more good things are slowly being added. CRSF custom telemetry has just been added. I have it running in my Matek H743-Mini (ArduCopter), and DJI FPV OSD will be added soon. Next I would like to configure another H743-Mini for Glider. Sorry, I’ve not spent anywhere near enough time with ArduPlane to do any troubleshooting on it. The first time I tried it, I spent hours trying to just get the simplest things working, and in the end just flashed iNav. The last build I did, things seemed to setup easier. But that was about a year ago, and I still haven’t flown it. Now I need to update to the new version, which I’m hoping will be a smooth process. But I’m not counting on it.

If ArduPilot is already installed, you can use the non bootloader firmware and flash from Mission Planner. I’m not sure on the exact update process at this time. I’ve not done much with ArduPlane yet. If you want to put a different firmware on the flight controller, iNav for example. Just use that firmware’s configurator, select full chip erase, and flash the firmware.
Not at the moment. Currently I have a lot going on, so am not investing too much time in ArduPlane at the moment. I have ArduPilot on one plane, and I’m going to see how it flies. I do need to update it, so I may record that process. But, I’ve heard a lot of people say that iNav is for pilots and ArduPlane is for operators. So I may stick with iNav for most planes, and just use ArduPilot on some more sedate, endurance planes if I find that to be the case.
Hi, I'll give you my thanks for doing this video, it's really helpful. I have just a concern. I tried doing this in a H743-WING V3 board, with the latest stable Copter firmware. Everything went fine, but when I connect it to Mission Planner it reads the device as 'Generic' and doesn't let me see any Flight Modes or change them, any idea what may be going on? I'll be glad if someone can help me, please.
Sorry, I’m still very much a noob with ArduPlane myself. The issues I encountered, all I could do was google, the read through a lot of text, only to not find the answer. Eventually, it does come up though.
After watching Paweł’s stream yesterday; it seems that support for the H7 is closer. The board is now booting with iNav. But the ports and outputs are not yet working. It’s looking like a June release for 3.0, so maybe it will be included. But I think there’s still a fair chance it won’t. I’ve not actually flown with ArduPlane yet. So I can’t really comment on that side. The set up isn’t as straight forward as iNav though.
Were you able to connect all the components together via iNav? The CANBUS just does not work. I set both the air speed sensor and the GPS as MSP, but without success. Any tips?
CANBUS isn’t support by iNav. There currently aren’t any plans for it either. I think that’s a shame, but I guess there’s not much call for it at the moment. I don’t have the Matek GPS. I do have the airspeed sensor, but haven’t tried to connect it up yet. There is a limit of 3 MSP devices. So maybe this could be causing your problems?
@@MrD I know you have the components. I saw this video and ordered the components to learn the technology. I did not imagine that iNav does not support CANBUS. Matek wrote to me that "they never said there was iNav support". That's ridiculous. They sell flight controllers with dedicated entry to CANBUS. All of their products works with iNav and should have explicitly written that there is no iNav support. They enjoy a very large community purchasing their products and they have behaved dishonestly. There are other TH-camrs who have received the system for review and the impression is created that the technology works. This is not a MSP issue. The I²C input does not even supply power to the component. In addition, Matek's website states that in order for the GPS to work in MSP, an up-to-date version must be dowenloade. Just the burning itself was an annoying process that in the end I realized the CANBUS is not working at all. I connect the GPS to a UART and it is working but I cannot connect the AS unit via the GPS. Sorry that the post is so long. I'm a little frustrated.
I believe it should be. I don’t have those components to test. But Andrew Newton had the CAN GPS with his H743-WING. There’s just a MatekH743 firmware, so its the same.

You’re welcome Alexander. I’ve not connected Crossfire yet. The last I saw, you had to use SBUS. But there has been a release since then. I’ve had to put that project on hold due to other things taking priority.
@@MrD thanks for your response. From what I gather, the latest release of Ardupilot supports CRSF protocol which no longer requires SBUS. I’ll try it out and keep you posted.
It was an issue with the H743. They may have resolved it by now. But to be honest I don’t know. Mission Planner isn’t exactly modern or nice to use. But maybe they have got it working?
I flashed latest Arducopter on the Lumenier H743 Ultimate flight controller. However arducopter only sees one of the two IMUs (it does not see the MP6000 IMU). Do you have any idea why ?
I’ve had a quick look on the ArduPilot GitHub page, but could not see a reported issue github.com/ArduPilot/ardupilot/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+h743-slim So perhaps it would be worth raising one? Likewise, I couldn’t see anything specific on the Matek site. So it looks like it could be a target related problem? Good video man I got hung up on the stm thing 😂 so I reflashed with beta flight but nice to know how to use the stm have you tried the telemetry radio yet I wanna purchase a set being you can't just do a trim and then land and save trims to radio like eagletree so I'm guessing using a cheap telemetry radio you can trim on the fly literally but have to use a computer or cell phone
I’ve not got that far Joey. I have a plane ready to fly. Unfortunately we can’t fly over here at the moment due to covid lockdown. My plan is to read up on the pre-flight closer to the time. But usually I trim in manual, then physically adjust the linkages, as if there’s no flight controller. I’m interested to check out the ArduPlane auto trim too.
@@MrD if you want to get it totally sorted, stick one of the prebuilt hexs on with the ardu boot loader on it, so you can just flash from inside mission planner
arduplane has been my go to on all my planes. besides my couple vectors i started on ardu and now just branching out experimenting with inav. what do you think as comparison between the two? arduplane just has so many tuning options and features. autolaunch is what has me interested and setting up inav for the first time on a dart 250 and a matek f722 wpx. although arduplane can do the same. still excited to try it out.
So far I can only really compare a basic setup. For me personally, iNav is better than MissionPlanner for this. There are some things for a basic set up that I feel are hidden away in the parameter list, when they should be easier to access. There are also some things like SmartAudio and PixelOSD that are currently missing. SmartAudio seems to be coming in 4.1. But, I’m looking forward to trying out ArduPlane too. I’m especially looking forward to trying out the glider specialisations on the 2nd build. The F722-WPX is a nice flight controller. Marc Hoffmann is really pleased with his. I’m probably going to get one for my F1, to get that PixelOSD. I’m still getting to grips with ArduPilot, but it looks like the autolaunch needs to be set up as a mission. Whereas with iNav, it’s just a flight mode. So I think it’s a bit more flexible as you can use it anywhere without having to reset the mission and loiter point. But I think experimenting with these difference firmwares can only be a good thing. I’m sure they both have their strengths and areas for improvement. Check out inavfixedwinggroup.com. The tuning guide on there is great.

We've just had a little snow here, just a light dusting on the road, all gone now. It's mainly covid stopping us as we're in lockdown at the moment. Hopefully it will be relaxed fairly soon. I’ve just been doing a test, and a video for it will be out in about a week. Short answer, no. The H743 I tested was only about 2 degrees warmer than an F405.
I'm trying to build a VTOL with arduplane and Missionplanner using Matek F722-HD and its designated arduplane_with_bl.hex (MatekF405-TE) I get to the start programming step and it just says operation exceeds memory. I also tried it with F722-PX but no luck. Any suggestions?
F722 only has 512KB of storage. You're trying to flash an F405 target to the FC. Where did you read that the MATEKF405-TE target was for the F722-HD? Because they need to change that information, it's misleading. Firstly, that's a bad idea to mix firmware, as the connections between the MCU, components, and ports are likely different on the two boards. But also, the F405 has 1024KB of storage, so can fit more on. I don't believe there are any targets for the F722 on ArduPlane, because of the lack of storage. The same goes for the F411. However F405, F765, H743 would be fine to use.
@@MrD Thanks for the response! Matek website's "Mateksys Flight Controller Lineup" page showed F722-HD and -PX has having MatekF405TE for Ardupilot target. I thought there was something odd since the spec page for them didn't mention ardupilot, just Betaflight and Inav.
@@mickistevens4886 I see what’s happening, and it’s very confusing on Matek’s part. They’re actually listing the specs and targets for the F405-HDTE (can’t see the replacement for the F722-PX as that page doesn’t work properly on my mobile). The second row shows the recommended replacement FC in red. And all the specs below are for that replacement FC, not the original F722 FC. I will contact Matek and ask them to sort this out, as it is confusing.

Maybe I will. But I’m still getting to grips with ArduPlane myself. It was a huge pain to set up on a Matek F405-STD. But it is flying now. I will be making an update video, as I couldn’t find any when I tried to do this recently. There wasn’t even any documentation. Not good when you’re trying to update for the first time.

Totally your call. At the moment I’m missing some of the things that are taken for granted in iNav. Stuff like SmartAudio, which seems to be missing. Also, the launch mode seems like an after thought as it needs to be tied in to a mission.
I’ve just got my first model set up though, so will give it a fly and see. I will make some more ArduVideos though. Just because I think its good to try things, then RC pilots can make their own minds up. Personally, I am thinking both firmwares have their places for different circumstances. Also both firmwares could learn from each other, each has areas they do better and worse.

I just used INAV to flash my F765wing with ardupilot, it seems to work, arxangle said do it that way.
It doesn’t always work. This particular FC was a prime example of that. It would not flash with INAV or BetaFlight. Hence this way of flashing using the official tool.

Hello Darren, greetings from Germany, very good video!! On the Inav or Ardupilot decision, there are pros and cons to both systems. I have tried both autopilot systems for several years for some simple and high performance electric motor gliders and diy endurance copters. Ardupilot is much much better for gliders in maintaining speed and stall prevention in thermal flying. Glide performance in FBWA mode increases significantly, especially with the addition of a pitot tube.
Inav in a high performance glider with engine off in angle mode (=stabilize in Ardup.) is incredibly bad, speed is not maintained, especially after direction change you have to constantly adjust speed suddenly the glider is too slow sometimes too fast. Mixer tab in Inav on the other hand is extremely well solved, this mixer tab in Ardupilot would be a dream. The settings in Ardup. are a nightmare. TECS system (syntetic) airspeed handling in Ardupilot is a masterpiece. The best parts of both systems in one, that would be brilliantly good. Best regards, Ingo
Hi Ingo. I've not flown ArduPlane yet, so I can't really comment on that. Though iNav doesn't really have anything specialised with gliders in mind. This is a reason I am putting ArduPlane in my Ranger 2000, so I can experience that. Same with an airspeed sensor, in ArduPlane, it's functional for closed loop throttle and things like that. But in iNav, it's currently really only for data. But, I'm holding off on conclusions until I've flown both. I'm actually hoping to do a back to back comparison at some point. But, I'm thinking ArduPilot will be better for larger aircraft, cruises, and long range. Whereas I think iNav may feel better for acrobatic, fast, ripping around flights.
As for the PC software, as far as configuration goes, I still prefer iNav. I just think MissionPlanner hides too many useful things away in the parameters list. However, it is much improved from the last time I attempted to play with ArduPlane, and ended up just re-flashing iNav as I was pulling my hair out with MissionPlanner, and ArduPilot's own wiki was incorrect for the flight controller I was using. But there are hangups that used to exist, which have now been fixed.
My biggest issues at the moment with ArduPlane are the missing features. For example, SmartAudio. However, I believe that will be in 4.1. I wish they would implement the FrSky PixelOSD too. I've not checked if CRSF is supported, but saw old posts where is wasn't. I also find having the autolaunch feature linked to a mission a bit strange. If you want to launch and loiter, it seems you would have to set up a new mission at every location, which isn't good for casual FPV. It would be nice if autolaunch was separate, like the iNav system. But if you have a mission with a launch, that overrides the default launch settings.
Overall though, I think each will have their areas of excelling and of needing improvement. I'm looking forward to trying it. My S800 is now ready to go, and I'm just waiting for us to be allowed to fly again because of CoViD-19.
@@MrD Hi Darren, you are right, there are different areas of application for INAV / Arduplane. It is sometimes difficult when you have your own application somewhere in between or need a very specific application. Setting up an aeroplane with Arduplane via MissionPlaner is also not really intuitive, but when you have it running properly, it's really very good. There are still some features missing, but more and more good things are slowly being added. CRSF custom telemetry has just been added. I have it running in my Matek H743-Mini (ArduCopter), and DJI FPV OSD will be added soon. Next I would like to configure another H743-Mini for Glider.
For telemetry on the Taranis I prefer "Yaapu telemetry- script" : github.com/yaapu/FrskyTelemetryScript

Sorry, I’ve not spent anywhere near enough time with ArduPlane to do any troubleshooting on it. The first time I tried it, I spent hours trying to just get the simplest things working, and in the end just flashed iNav. The last build I did, things seemed to setup easier. But that was about a year ago, and I still haven’t flown it. Now I need to update to the new version, which I’m hoping will be a smooth process. But I’m not counting on it.

If ArduPilot is already installed, you can use the non bootloader firmware and flash from Mission Planner. I’m not sure on the exact update process at this time. I’ve not done much with ArduPlane yet.
If you want to put a different firmware on the flight controller, iNav for example. Just use that firmware’s configurator, select full chip erase, and flash the firmware.

Not at the moment. Currently I have a lot going on, so am not investing too much time in ArduPlane at the moment.
I have ArduPilot on one plane, and I’m going to see how it flies. I do need to update it, so I may record that process. But, I’ve heard a lot of people say that iNav is for pilots and ArduPlane is for operators. So I may stick with iNav for most planes, and just use ArduPilot on some more sedate, endurance planes if I find that to be the case.

Hi, I'll give you my thanks for doing this video, it's really helpful. I have just a concern. I tried doing this in a H743-WING V3 board, with the latest stable Copter firmware. Everything went fine, but when I connect it to Mission Planner it reads the device as 'Generic' and doesn't let me see any Flight Modes or change them, any idea what may be going on? I'll be glad if someone can help me, please.
Sorry, I’m still very much a noob with ArduPlane myself. The issues I encountered, all I could do was google, the read through a lot of text, only to not find the answer. Eventually, it does come up though.

After watching Paweł’s stream yesterday; it seems that support for the H7 is closer. The board is now booting with iNav. But the ports and outputs are not yet working. It’s looking like a June release for 3.0, so maybe it will be included. But I think there’s still a fair chance it won’t.
I’ve not actually flown with ArduPlane yet. So I can’t really comment on that side. The set up isn’t as straight forward as iNav though.

Yes, the same installation process can be used with any F405 or F765, as well as the H743 👍🏻

You should be able to download the actual firmware from the Ardu site.
Were you able to connect all the components together via iNav? The CANBUS just does not work. I set both the air speed sensor and the GPS as MSP, but without success. Any tips?
CANBUS isn’t support by iNav. There currently aren’t any plans for it either. I think that’s a shame, but I guess there’s not much call for it at the moment. I don’t have the Matek GPS. I do have the airspeed sensor, but haven’t tried to connect it up yet.
There is a limit of 3 MSP devices. So maybe this could be causing your problems?
@@MrD I know you have the components. I saw this video and ordered the components to learn the technology. I did not imagine that iNav does not support CANBUS. Matek wrote to me that "they never said there was iNav support". That's ridiculous. They sell flight controllers with dedicated entry to CANBUS. All of their products works with iNav and should have explicitly written that there is no iNav support. They enjoy a very large community purchasing their products and they have behaved dishonestly. There are other TH-camrs who have received the system for review and the impression is created that the technology works. This is not a MSP issue. The I²C input does not even supply power to the component. In addition, Matek's website states that in order for the GPS to work in MSP, an up-to-date version must be dowenloade. Just the burning itself was an annoying process that in the end I realized the CANBUS is not working at all. I connect the GPS to a UART and it is working but I cannot connect the AS unit via the GPS. Sorry that the post is so long. I'm a little frustrated.

I believe it should be. I don’t have those components to test. But Andrew Newton had the CAN GPS with his H743-WING. There’s just a MatekH743 firmware, so its the same.

You’re welcome Alexander. I’ve not connected Crossfire yet. The last I saw, you had to use SBUS. But there has been a release since then. I’ve had to put that project on hold due to other things taking priority.
@@MrD thanks for your response. From what I gather, the latest release of Ardupilot supports CRSF protocol which no longer requires SBUS. I’ll try it out and keep you posted.
why doesn't Ardupilot software flash the firmware by itself, and has to use Betaflight or Inave to do it ?
It was an issue with the H743. They may have resolved it by now. But to be honest I don’t know. Mission Planner isn’t exactly modern or nice to use. But maybe they have got it working?
I flashed latest Arducopter on the Lumenier H743 Ultimate flight controller. However arducopter only sees one of the two IMUs (it does not see the MP6000 IMU). Do you have any idea why ?

After the bootloader version is installed, you can update using mission planner.
Good video man I got hung up on the stm thing 😂 so I reflashed with beta flight but nice to know how to use the stm have you tried the telemetry radio yet I wanna purchase a set being you can't just do a trim and then land and save trims to radio like eagletree so I'm guessing using a cheap telemetry radio you can trim on the fly literally but have to use a computer or cell phone
I’ve not got that far Joey. I have a plane ready to fly. Unfortunately we can’t fly over here at the moment due to covid lockdown. My plan is to read up on the pre-flight closer to the time. But usually I trim in manual, then physically adjust the linkages, as if there’s no flight controller. I’m interested to check out the ArduPlane auto trim too.

Any GPS that uses a UART and a protocol that can be used by the flight controller firmware. The UBLOX protocol is a safe bet.

arduplane has been my go to on all my planes. besides my couple vectors i started on ardu and now just branching out experimenting with inav. what do you think as comparison between the two? arduplane just has so many tuning options and features. autolaunch is what has me interested and setting up inav for the first time on a dart 250 and a matek f722 wpx. although arduplane can do the same. still excited to try it out.
So far I can only really compare a basic setup. For me personally, iNav is better than MissionPlanner for this. There are some things for a basic set up that I feel are hidden away in the parameter list, when they should be easier to access. There are also some things like SmartAudio and PixelOSD that are currently missing. SmartAudio seems to be coming in 4.1. But, I’m looking forward to trying out ArduPlane too. I’m especially looking forward to trying out the glider specialisations on the 2nd build.
The F722-WPX is a nice flight controller. Marc Hoffmann is really pleased with his. I’m probably going to get one for my F1, to get that PixelOSD. I’m still getting to grips with ArduPilot, but it looks like the autolaunch needs to be set up as a mission. Whereas with iNav, it’s just a flight mode. So I think it’s a bit more flexible as you can use it anywhere without having to reset the mission and loiter point. But I think experimenting with these difference firmwares can only be a good thing. I’m sure they both have their strengths and areas for improvement. Check out inavfixedwinggroup.com. The tuning guide on there is great.

We've just had a little snow here, just a light dusting on the road, all gone now. It's mainly covid stopping us as we're in lockdown at the moment. Hopefully it will be relaxed fairly soon. Does this H7 also heats up too much like F722?
I had a Flywoo F722 FC which worked fine every time, but used to heat up a lot when not flying.
I can’t say I noticed the Matek F722 heating up. I had an F722-STD on my bench last night. I need to finish the update on that, so will check.
I’ve just been doing a test, and a video for it will be out in about a week. Short answer, no. The H743 I tested was only about 2 degrees warmer than an F405.

It is an alternative flight controller firmware. Much more aimed at commercial projects.
I'm trying to build a VTOL with arduplane and Missionplanner using Matek F722-HD and its designated arduplane_with_bl.hex (MatekF405-TE) I get to the start programming step and it just says operation exceeds memory. I also tried it with F722-PX but no luck. Any suggestions?
F722 only has 512KB of storage. You're trying to flash an F405 target to the FC. Where did you read that the MATEKF405-TE target was for the F722-HD? Because they need to change that information, it's misleading. Firstly, that's a bad idea to mix firmware, as the connections between the MCU, components, and ports are likely different on the two boards. But also, the F405 has 1024KB of storage, so can fit more on. I don't believe there are any targets for the F722 on ArduPlane, because of the lack of storage. The same goes for the F411. However F405, F765, H743 would be fine to use.
@@MrD Thanks for the response! Matek website's "Mateksys Flight Controller Lineup" page showed F722-HD and -PX has having MatekF405TE for Ardupilot target. I thought there was something odd since the spec page for them didn't mention ardupilot, just Betaflight and Inav.
@@mickistevens4886 I see what’s happening, and it’s very confusing on Matek’s part. They’re actually listing the specs and targets for the F405-HDTE (can’t see the replacement for the F722-PX as that page doesn’t work properly on my mobile). The second row shows the recommended replacement FC in red. And all the specs below are for that replacement FC, not the original F722 FC.
I will contact Matek and ask them to sort this out, as it is confusing.
