    Been growing since the 90s & was always anti LED ( had Gavita se600s & loved them) but bought my first LED that was the SF2000- I then bought the 4000 ( which I put in a 120x120) then they bought out these with dimmers - I must say its only uses for flower but it's saved me nearly what it cost in lamps over these 2 years - best light ive ever bought even now its old tech im still happy with it what 27 months later

    3X3 is the best footprint for flower.
    Even with that the edges are not optimal. This is assuming your looking to get around 1000 on the PAR meter.
    You can probably do better than that with reflective sheeting on all sides so you probably could push it to a 4x4 if needed.
    Don't let that dissuade you from a spiderfarmer though. Its an amazing light and very well priced.
    I would not recommend any other light.

      @pursaveer9027 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I think these lights would work well in tents because of the 4 reflective sides, but you are right. There's a hot spot under the light, and not enough light on the peripheries. 2 SF-2000s would work better. BUT, the way they describe the wattages is ambiguous. One SF-4000 at 100% is 450 watts at the wall. Two SF-2000s at 100% = 400 watts at the wall. Is the SF-4000 being over-driven, or are the SF-2000s being under-driven? The SF-4000 has the identical LEDs and drivers to the SF-2000. Spider Farmer's answers about this have been as clear as mud. I have been unable to get a direct, logical answer to this question that has been asked many times.
      All that said: I would never buy another SF-4000. It would be a MUCH better light if they put a few cents worth of more aluminum, and made a space with 2 quantum boards on either side, like HLG does. I have concerns about the longevity of the diodes in the SF-4000, for the reasons noted above.
      Now, I'm running Mixjoy, Mars Hydro, and Spider Farmer. In apples to apples comparisons, they all seem to perform similarly. The Mixjoy has less diodes for less money, and runs hot. The Mars Hydro SP-3000s are nice and long, but too skinny, and the 'UV' seems to be just decoration ;) They run very cool though. The Spider Farmer SF-2000s are OK in width, but too short. Now, I'm getting a Viparspectra P-4000 that has good length and width, and ignoring their claim that it covers a 5X5 area. I'd use 2, and adjust the dimmer if necessary. These 'cheap' lights are expensive, and not everybody can afford to compare them for themselves. I'm grateful for videos like this, and want to do my part as a consumer, to aid in our search for the ultimate 'economy' LED light ;) I'll keep looking :)

    • @pursaveer9027
      @pursaveer9027 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hydroponichomesteader6852 , yes, I'm in the expensive part of the learning curve myself. I don't know what you mean by "big lights". An area like that, if full, would use 4 1000 watt HID lamps to get good coverage. The lights are cheap but way too much heat and electrical consumption. It seems that the '50% energy savings compared to HID' is a bit of an exaggeration. The GOOD coverage area is smaller than the STATED coverage area, in most cases, but that applies to flower only. The veg coverage claims of the lights I've bought are reasonable, for the lights I've tried. The main problem with LED lighting is the penetration of the light. To grow thick buds, high intensity is needed. The lights deliver the energy in a very flat way, so a flat plant canopy would take best advantage. That's a tall order ;) Also, as a fellow LED newbie, I think the lights need to be suited to the grow space. A 10 X10' space is a bad shape, and size, I think. I think the LED lights are working well for a lot of small growers because they use a tent with 4 reflective sides, and mount the fans up above. In a 10 X 10, how are you going to space the lights, locate the fans, and have any room to work? People access their plants from both sides with tents. I bought one, but I haven't tried it yet.

      I've got 2 of these myself and the dimmer is under one of the one of the drivers...you really don't need to dim it anyway if you are growing in something at least 6' tall...I run auto's all the way from seed to harvest and just put the lights all the way up in a 7' tent...I was kinda pissed about not having that updated model but you really don't need it and it's just something else that could potentially have problems...I figure the less Chinese electronics on it the better...lol

    Buy 4 of their 1000 units and then you’ll have every model they sale ,,,I did that with Famurs ,, I bought four of their TF1200 led lights ,,,,,and look at the specs when you buy two units now it uses 200 plus watts then but the 3000 model now you’ll have three of their units using 300 plus wattage ,,,then the 4000 four units put together now using 400 plus watts,,,
    So do yourself a favor wait till their 1000 -1200 units go on sale for half price and buy four 1000-1200 or even a 1500
    But I believe everyone is done with making the 1500 it’s either a 1000 or 1200 watt light using 90-150 watts
