It absolutely does. It is probably one of my favourite quotes from the trio, at least on regarding themselves. I also love how Clarkson says "what an unintelligent man" when they talk about launch control. Can't recall what episode, but the bit is on TH-cam here somewhere.
The actual British space program isn't far off of this in terms of cocking about. Design and build your own launcher, get it to Australia to launch it aaaaaand then just got for an inferior US design "because its cheaper" (but ends up costing way more in reality)
after consuming a lot of tea while researching about this matter, I'm afraid that there's no such thing as British space program, there's the tailgating white van program if you're interested.
Nu-uh. They should have removed the engine because the car was very front-heavy. You can clearly see the nose dip down first. I can't disagree with that bigger rockets would have been more fun, though.
The mini has rear engine, so they removed the engine block and replaced it whit rockets boosters, but they didn't calculate the gain and loss of the weight, the loss comes from burning rocket fuel.
Corkoth55 Ohhh damn, didn't think about spoilers... sorry mate. You can get your mate to hit you at the back of the head so you forget last 1 hour of your life, then watch the video again.
My favorite thing about this stunt is that it appears to be survivable! the largest G's would probably be hitting the buffer at the end. Other than that, I think that someone seated in that rocket mini could have survived! Lets hope for a manned mission in the future! :D
THIS time it was survivable, but imagine if a bit more power caused the Mini to hit the snow bumper-first and rolled over down the slope. No chance of surviving that, they were right not to put someone inside for safety.
@@tedioussugar384 of course, no one in their right minds world actually attempt this. I was simply marveling at how well executed this particular run was!
1:33 I love that view from the front of the car, you see the foreground and background moving seperatly and with the quality of the camera wich is grainy it's really a nice shot
The legendary Finnish stunt driver Arto Nyqvist jumped the Lahti ski jumping hill with a Citroen 2Cv in 1987 (but it was the smallest hill, this was more spectacular).
It's a shame it didn't go just about 5 meters more, to clear the top and follow the curve smoothly down hill, before touching down. Then again, judging from its forward pitch when it leaves the ramp, it would've flipped on its roof if it hadn't touched down and stopped the rotation, exactly when it did. Doubt it could've pulled a full 360° somersault, if it had gone further. lol
If they used just a bit more fuel for the rockets to burn a second longer, it would have propelled the car forward and kept the front end upward long enough to clear the top of the landing ramp.
After every car show, every episode of car programs I have ever seen. Seeing a mini with rockets attached, going down a ski ramp, is truly, truly epic!
What about the other European countries that had Africa? By comparison British Africa was far kinder in rule than the rest of European Africa. The Brits even tried to stop the slave trade. The French tried to stop the British doing that.
The first minute of this video really looks like some sort of James Bond villain world-destruction preparations, with Roger Moore ready to pounce in a few minutes.
"We are, in fact, on the cutting edge of cocking about" summises this era of Top Gear very well.
It absolutely does. It is probably one of my favourite quotes from the trio, at least on regarding themselves. I also love how Clarkson says "what an unintelligent man" when they talk about launch control. Can't recall what episode, but the bit is on TH-cam here somewhere.
The time for cocking about, however, is over

"we are in fact, on the cutting edge of cocking about..."
meh. been there done that.
That’s such a perfect description of the show.
Wow, fancy seeing you here! :P
How are you not verified
A quote so good they included it in the final Grand Tour montage.
So is this the British space program?
The actual British space program isn't far off of this in terms of cocking about.
Design and build your own launcher, get it to Australia to launch it aaaaaand then just got for an inferior US design "because its cheaper" (but ends up costing way more in reality)
after consuming a lot of tea while researching about this matter, I'm afraid that there's no such thing as British space program, there's the tailgating white van program if you're interested.
ohhh hell yeahhhhh mateeeeeeeeee
yeah that was a different episode, using a reliant robin.
Britain was actually the only country to develop a rocket, achieve orbit, then cancel their program and never return to it. Search for Black Arrow.
Stuff like this, they're like Europe's version of Mythbusters only its not breaking myths. Its still for the fun.
different concept but very similar vibe
Please just say the British version
Europe? 🧐
Reminds of Mythbusters' replicating the results at the end of each project, particularly with jato rockets.
Lol europe
2:04 James' best laugh in Top Gear history.
Its like that on eyething epsiode like if a agree
Same laugh is used at 1:43 🤭😏🤭🤔

original mini is as undestructible as a horcrux, or a nokia

I love how the madness, noise and spectacle of the rocket-run is beautifully offset by the anticlimactic “boomph” as it hits the barrier!
They should remove the Engine, Seats and other useless weight! And add Wings. Yeahh Wings
removing the engine would have been enough to get a proper weight distribution
It could be too light for the rockets would send it literally flying in the air
Alienated Drift
certainly not :D
Oh ok I just thought that but I'm not no doctor of engineering twice LOL
Alienated Drift
:D
All of that math, physics and calculating... and they end up short.
They should have used bigger rockets like Jeremy said.
Nu-uh. They should have removed the engine because the car was very front-heavy. You can clearly see the nose dip down first. I can't disagree with that bigger rockets would have been more fun, though.

I wish there were fewer edits on the jump itself. I would've preferred to see at least one single take from top to bottom.
I think it was remarkably unimpressive, hence the edits.
1:43 can we appreciate that laugh 😂 lmao
Hhhhhehhhhhehhhehhhh
Love how the top gear trio contributed about as much as the bears in the forest who were probably laughing as they watched the progress.
Wrong. How could the rocket engineers have possibly done their job without Jeremy providing them with a steady supply of tea?
0:36 That's basically Top Gear explained in 1 scentence
That was amazing how the Mini flew perfectly, landed perfectly and skied perfectly right into the barrier. Just brilliant.

The stop could be more gentle if they forced into a curve and back up the hill.
Am I the only one imagining Mr Bean in there just looking so scared XD
Someone should make a video about that!
