      Awesome! For only 30 days of training you did insane. Just how much martial arts background do you have? I agree with Seth; you're clearly a natural.

      @@PHIplaytesting thanks! did about 1.5 years of taekwondo back in college, and for youtube: a few months in a style called tukong, and a month in jiu jitsu. Footwork probs little easier for me bc of an extensive background in soccer

      I'd love to see how you handle boxing. And I hope you keep going with the martial arts training because you're clearly good at it. Heck, why not do a collab with Sensei Seth?

    i guess nobody really thinks its possible to master a martial art in 30 days, but anyone who says she did bad is wrong, for 30 days she's really good. One thing seth didnt coment, but its good to point it out is: for a 30 days student she's pretty confident, normaly people new to it would hold back or freze a lot more (sorry for my bad english, but i think i made myself clear and u got the point)

    • @TheElbowMerchant
      @TheElbowMerchant ปีที่แล้ว +14

      For 30 days of training, her performance in the fight was outstanding. You're correct about how confident she was too! I didn't develop my confidence until I'd been sparring for at least 6 months.

    love seeing these 'learning muay thai in x days', always interesting to see how fast or differently different people progress and learn. Whenever I take a friend who knows taekwando to the gym it always feels like once they make that little adjustment their dexterity and mobility is a super cheat code. Also unrelated, maybe it';s just my audio setup but the way her S's sounds like a snake a little bit.

    • @TheElbowMerchant
      @TheElbowMerchant ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I got a bunch of flack on a comment I left on Sensei Seth's main channel, saying I felt like doing TKD as a teen really helped me with my kicking technique when I started training in Muay Thai as an adult. Long story short, I agree with that assessment, as I experienced exponential growth in my overall kicking game once I made the necessary adjustments to MT. I also felt like my hip flexibility and the overall dexterity in my legs progressed really rapidly, largely because of my TKD background.

    • @PHIplaytesting
      @PHIplaytesting ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I mean it should be obvious training in kicking and martial arts in general will better prepare you for doing a slightly different style of kicking than doing nothing will lol.

    thanks, man! At 4:10 you really well explained the kicking difference which I never fully understood. As a kid I first did ‚American kickboxing‘ (L-stand, many fancy kicks, now elbows, no knees) and then we switched to Muay Thai which I loved, but my kicking stayed the same. ( of course I added low-kicks, changed the stance and blocking and did clinch-work ). But never understood the kicking difference. thanks, man!

    Nice video Seth. I particularly enjoyed your comments on why Muay Thai has the forward stance so much, I want to know more about why different disciplines do this, and you explaining about the rules and exchanging and balance was interesting.
    If you (or others with experience) have more to say about the disadvantages of the stance -- maybe you said it moves slower? -- I'm curious. I'm currently dabbling between FMA/boxing and Muay Thai, but did a bouncy karate kickboxing as a teenager, and trying to decide which footwork style to focus on.

  • @Kwert

    Yeah, as much as a lot of people say Muay Thai doesn't chamber its roundhouse, it really does. If you slow down any excellent kicker, their leg is at least somewhat chambered as they're performing the kicking motion, but as you said they're not actively snapping the kick towards the target. Damien Trainor has some great IG clips about this, and as far as golden era Thai fighters, all the clips of Karuhat kicking show a definitive chamber in his leg as its coming up and across.

    I came in expecting for it to be a disaster but I am quite impressed, I've seen women with 6+ months of training and an amateur fight or two who are not better than her. Really solid job, the punching/holding guard with hands needs some work but give her a couple of months more and she would be able to hurt some feelings in an amateur tournament

    the not.extending stems from the fact that if you a blade across another blade, the blade that will cut will be the one that is moving. the one that is jstill has the abrasion and damage focussed to one point whereas the moving blade distributes the force over a longer edge. if two blades hit each other square on, they ll probably both either nullify each other and or chip each others edge off

    every muay thai rounhouse kick has a chamber , people don't see it because thai fighters kick super fast but if you put buakaw, superbon, superlek or seanchai in slow motion x0,25 you can see the a bend at the knee, not like a full chamber (heel to the butt) but 90° degrees at least
