Review: Sangean PR-D5 AM / FM Portable Receiver

- This is my latest radio purchase: the Sangean PR-D5 (Hedonic 50) with excellent AM reception due to a built in 200 mm ferrite antenna. It has stereo speakers and a solid sound for it`s size. The operation is very easy and comfortable with the rotary dials on the side for tuning and volume. There are five presets for FM and AM and a 3.5 mm AUX-input for your Smartphone or mp3-player. There is even a small switch on the left side for stereo or mono setting in FM-mode.

I just got this radio a few days ago
I really like it
It pulls the stations in really good
I just bought a Bluetooth audio jack for my PR-D5. Much less expensive than a new Bluetooth speaker. I really like this radio - I keep it out on my screen porch and listen to music when I get a chance to chill. I do wish the backlight stayed on.
I didn't know so many European countries have shut down MW broadcasts and what a shame...At times I wish the bands weren't so crowded here in the States...But what fun I've had for decades now searching for Dx at night on MW...That lead me to decades of SWL and a good size general receiver collection...I purchased this radio for my sister to relax on their new deck 6 years ago and so glad I did...Wonderful receiver for MW & FM...To help with reception at night, you might know you could purchase a small passive tunable loop and it will couple with the radio's ferret loop stick and help pull in those distant signals...Enjoy the receiver Sir and nice video...
They even think about shutting down the FM broadcasts in favor of DAB+. In Norway this already happend! In new cars (2020) it is obligatory to have a DAB+ radio built in here in Germany. I do own an AM loop-Antenna, but the reception-quality also depends on the overall weather conditions. With this excellent Sangean receiver there is mostly no need for it, but at the time of recording it was a rather bad reception day. Shutting down electronic equipment like PC, Bluetooth, W-lan, LED Lights also makes a difference somtimes. This is part of the fun ;)

Thanks for the vid. These are good radios but the controls do ' crash '. If it goes blank it's not junk, it needs to be unplugged and the batteries removed. Put it back together and play with the buttons and knobs. It will come back to life.
Just happened to run across your video as I also have a PR-D5. Its a great sounding radio but I have 3 complaints. The C batteries do not last very long and all newer radios have a rechargeable lithium build in. Many newer radios have Bluetooth which this does not. I can't find a case and carrying handle which makes it less portable.
Does this PR-D5 model have various selectable bandwidth filters like the PR-D4W? Than you ❤
