The features I like best about this radio:
Digital Display.
Alarm functions were top notch, allowing you change the volume of the wake sound.
Five quick presets for each band.
Clock.
Easy to use.
Fantastic FM reception, and decent AM reception.
I recommend this radio as a buy for those looking for simplicity but still want a digital tuner. Great for a kids room, small shop, ect..

I just watched your review of the Sangean SG-104 and purchased the PR-D18. I like the aesthetics of the PRD-18 a little more. All my Sangeans are top notch receivers so am looking forward to many hours of listening this weekend. Thanks for being a proud radio buff.
I got the D18… in blue and white, as it was like $15 cheaper at the time. I don’t love the color scheme… that’ll teach me. Nice radio tho.

Your Welcome ratedRF. If your not in a hurry I'll have a review of the Sangean PR-D19 up in a week or so. It is a better radio, and in the video I recommend it over this model. Better reception on both bands with some bandwidth control and stereo speakers.

I think you'll like this radio more as time goes by. I like the two alarms with volume settings, and of course the 12/24 hour clock. Very good review! The radio seems well-worth the price. I like Sangean build quality. -Chuck
Sangean has a number of radios like this with various features and decent sound quality. Biggest concern is no handle.
It needs a carry bag or something. I do not use it much because its a pain to move around...and the high gloss plastic looks crummy after handling it for a minute :)
todderbert. yes a cheep case and strap + replaceable would be nice. Sangean has no way to be contacted in the tiny USA. no open search at sangean.com USA. Amazon has a cord reviewed as not fitting the PR D-15. +nothing else...so I have 3 Sangean radios that I paid extra for..BELIEVING they were greatly respected..but I can't even buy the correct power cord for a big, well reviewed for AM + XM w in-radio battery charging.
now dead 'to me.' 2 generic cords failed to even get wall power. let alone charging. Hardly used by 1 adult. Beyond
MISERABLE TO REMOVE THE BATTERIES. It Took at least 2-3HOURS OF TRY+FAIL...GEEZ.
PR D-15 really WAS nice -for a short, lite-use blip-in-time!!
Have this radio - decent performer & nice sound. What irks me is you can't set the display to always show frequency - it ALWAYS defaults back to the time. And it has a dedicated display button!!
I didn't like that default clock issue myself. Ugh. Well it sits in its box most of the time. Hopefully I will have some Sangean radios coming in soon for review. Change the pace a little.

The model you have is very good but I think you would like both the D-5 and D-9 models are incredible. I can get WABC 1250 miles up the east coast. Also WBZ 1500 miles away.
I have this radio (PR-D18). There is a small glitch. Sometimes when I press a button, the response is incorrect. I press a button that is supposed to raise the volume, but it behaves differently, it lowers the volume or performs another action. After a few clicks, it works. Can someone explain to me why this is happening? What is the solution? Thanks to anyone who can help me find a solution.
Hi. I had a Tecsun radio that had that problem. I asked a technician about it. He said that it may be dirt or even liquid on the button contacts inside. If that can be cleaned it may fix it. I tried to fix mine (Tecsun) but found it too hard to pull apart without breaking things. This Sangean may be easier to work on though. This type of fault is very common with TV remotes.
I like the alarm settings. You can pick the station and the volume level of that station. I wonder if the rubber bumper on the radio will become sticky over time like the Eton radios do? Nice review.
I wonder, it almost feels like a silky silicone style. A bonus, it looks like its easy to remove.
Probably asking too much but I think your videos will get more views if you open them up and show the guts a little bit. The circuit, how it works, amount of output power, input power etc.

Thanks for asking. I will once in awhile open a radio up on video. I will not do this on all of my radios though. My Patreon supporters benefit from a special "Insider" section where I have closeups of the internals. Often I will make them public for everyone to enjoy. Output power has never been a question (your actually the first to ask). I try to show the power stats if they are listed in the manual. Only one radio I reviewed that power input/output stats made a huge difference, and that was the Sangean Lunchbox. I also talk about power consumption on one of my recent videos when I compared the Sony ICF-P26 and the Sangean SR-35. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Is the 19 the same receiver with the addition of extra speaker. Or is the 19 superior for selectivity and sensitivity?
the 19 is the better receiver. I noticed it is more sensitive on the FM and AM. Selectivity is also a bit better. The 19 is part of my FM DX setup this Summer. Going to try and capture some E-Skips with it.
Do you really need the 0.4A Sangean AC adapter or is the 1A one for the D19 just as good for the D18?
If the polarity, and voltage requirements are the same, you can use a DC supply that provides more than the stated .4A
@@todderbert Yeah that’s what I’d expect, which makes me wonder why they sell two different adapters (the .4 isn’t cheaper). I ended up getting both with a discount so I’ll check them out.
Other possibility I wondered was whether the 1A generated more rfi when loaded lightly. I’m pretty sure the DC plugs are the same size.

@@todderbert Same voltage same connector dimensions (now that I have them to look at). IDK. If there’s a reason for the 400mA one to exist I can’t figure it out. Unless maybe it was cheaper than the 1A one at some point.

I cannot keep the radio on. Somehow I must have turned on snooze, but cannot seem to turn it off. Please advise.

@@todderbert I don't have a page 14. I just bought the radio and directions are in a flyer. I don't think it's snooze...it's something else The battery symbol blinks when I turn on the radio. I installed brand new panosonic batteries. The radio turns off after one minute. Is it the batteries?
@@marianne4779 it is the batteries, or a bad connection in the compartment. Make sure to use Alkalines.

@@todderbert The panosonic batteries I used were new out of the package and said "akaline" super power. I'll try duracel tomorrow and see if it makes a difference
