Hi, welcome to ShuoshuoChinese 说说中文; my name is Shuo, I’m a native Chinese teacher living in Bangkok, Thailand, I’ve been teaching Chinese as a foreign language for more than 10 years and I’m also a language learner.
In this channel, I will upload a weekly video, in which I talk about Chinese vocabulary, Chinese grammar, Chinese culture, Chinese stories with pinyin and the English translation for listening practice.
With my channel, you can easily start to learn and understand complicated Chinese grammar, sentence structure, and differences/nuances between similar Chinese words.
If you are a Chinese beginner, I’m planning to upload videos about what Chinese language is, how it differs from English, Chinese pronunciations, Chinese characters and Chinese stroke sequences and a mini Chinese course, (10 minutes per day), which can help you learn quickly and easily. Don’t miss it!

REALLY cool exercice, I wish there was many more of those, I think people would progress much faster. I'm around HSK4 (for real, got 6 months ago) and now live in China for 2 months so indeed I got a bit more than 80% in the second version. But probably listening to the first version did help me fill in the blanks...? The advanced one I gave up pretty fast, many words I still don't know.

After HSK 6, I quit studying and decided to become Chinese (in spirit). Then I took on another teacher to help me study Chinese literature. Well, why not? I’m Chinese and I’ll do what I want! Anyway, I got all but two or three words in the first story then paid a lot more attention to how the second story uses wider vocabulary and the third uses more complex grammar that explains motivation and adds texture and drama. Maybe I’ll figure out how to do that after reading some more novels? Anyway, time to get back to a video drama, which is easier than reading! Shuoshuo, you have a real talent for story telling and teaching. I hope you attract students with a talent for learning!

At 4:13 we have 不放心 for "worried". I think that "worried" is usually 担心 but 不放心 is interesting.
I think it's not exactly "worried" but more like "not comfortable with the idea". For example:
    很多父母不放心女儿一个人旅行的事情。
"Many parents are not comfortable with the idea of their daughter travelling alone."

Great format! The only thing I'd urge (if others haven't already) is that rather than hard code subs into the video itself, instead use soft subs through youtube. This way if you add Chinese and English then the language reactor plugin (which every student of Chinese has or really ought to!) can let you choose which things to display, hanzi, pinyin, both, neither, english etc...

Yes this, Because then those of us who use Migaku can also have them translated into Traditional Chinese, and read subtitles without cheating with English.

This is an excellent exercise. I've thought of the basic concept for this exercise before when I was studying but I never got to formulate it into a coherent teaching technique and I've never seen anyone do it until now.
I encourage you to make more of these.
The down side is that by the time you get to HSK 5-6, you will have already heard the story twice and know what to expect so it makes the last one easier than it should be. But still great practice.
The same idea applied to a listening exercise would also be a useful video, but starting with hard difficulty: first tell the story at the fastest speed that anyone has naturally spoken Chinese, then get gradually slower when retelling it.

This is an awesome study format! I think that it's potentially more useful to the learner to listen to the higher level versions first and gradually reduce the level until you can understand. Like, if I listen to the HSK 5-6 one first then I'll have some ideas and guesses about what you're saying, and then listening to HSK 3-4 I'll have that 'Aha!' moment and realise exactly what you meant. Thanks for the video, anyway :)

For me: first part ia 100%, medium about 90% and the last version is maybe 60% after almost 3 years. Now there are 9 levels of HSK. I wonder how would HSK7-9 version of this story look like. I'm still at about HSK4 course, but I play Genshin (原神) in Chinese and do reading practice reading fragments of books etc. with my teacher so I know some of higher vocabulary already. I am surprised that altohugh HSK1-9 includes about 10k words there is still so much vocabulary not present in any HSK that is pretty common and easy to find in Chinese texts. People focus on tones and characters, but truth is that it's the amount of information needed to get to let's say C1 level is monstrous. It's about three times more than what you need for example for French or German.

Plus have to check out some of the Idioms in the dictionary to get the meaning. Overall it was OK. I am studying on my own & I am referring to HSK 5 study materials for my study.

Great format for a video, as the easier versions first give you most of the context for the later ones. I understood almost all of the first 2 videos, and most of the 3rd video apart from the extra things you put up at the side of the video. The main thing that stood out to me is that 愤怒 is HSK6 (I know because I only learned it recently) but it was in the second video. In terms of my study, I'm about 1/3 the way through new vocabulary from HSK6.
The only thing I think you should change is the order of the subtitles. I wanted to cover up both the pinyin and the English as for native English speakers, it's incredibly difficult to ignore them if you can see them. So, I ended up needing two windows strategically placed to cover those subtitles but leave the Chinese subtitles.

For the last one, were the words and phrases you translated within HSK5-6 or were they beyond that level? Pretty sure I'm at a lower level, although I'm not studying using HSK, but I knew almost all the HSK5-6 words and constructions, except for the ones you specially translated. Combining your translations and acting, 5-6 was fully comprehensible on second watch, even though probably only about 60% upon first listen without video. HSK3-4 was fully comprehensible.
