Just got the pedal . It is as Jojo describes it , you sense nothing from the pedal is inhibiting your strokes ! I spend 90 minutes yesterday afternoon playing adjusting nuances playing again . Now its after 2 am and i got exercises done and it is allowing me to play Much more comfortable and 32nd notes etc with much with ease and confidence . Everything is feeling good . I am looking forward to how i play next year . hands down the best Piece of Hardware for the foot if you need versatility in your playing . Thanks Jojo Thanks Sonor for putting it together .
I received my Jojo pedal just a couple of days ago and I love it. Though I haven't played the Iron Cobra or others of it's ilk this pedal just works for me. No more foot or ankle fatigue and I can play quicker with greater articulation. I didn't know how good my bass drum could sound until now. I think the price point is good for the quality of this pedal. Jojo you know your stuff. Now if you can design a new Hi Hat pedal I would jump all over it. Thanks Jojo
***** Right! I'm glad that I never played a double-pedal before, so the decision was way easier than for people who'd like to give it a chance but are in need of a double-kick (metalband etc...). Greez
I did play double kickers for almost 9 years, and I started realizing there's nothing special about playing double kickers. What's special is what you can do with one foot :) That's the real show stopper lol Never playing double bass again though and I've never felt better about that decision, friend
***** Ah, I wouldn't despise double pedal-players just because you changed your opinion. ;) Just take a look at Thomas Lang or Virgil Donati and tell me, that is isn't special what they're able to play with a double-kick. It always depends on what you do with it. Playing just fast singles in different variations on the bassdrum is quite boring. But, for example, Swiss Army Triplets or Pataflaflas on the bassrum? No, I didn't see much persons doing this! My main-reason for refusing double-kicks was and still is that, in this case, I don't feel comfortable with the sitting-postion. Two bassdrum with two single pedals would solve the problems. But..... no thanks! Generally speaking, nearly everything is possible with a single kick. Even paradiddles or stuff like that.
I purchased this pedal 3 years ago and I'm very happy with it... As Jojo says, it's transparent under your foot... effortless and so easy to play. Maybe I'm going to buy a second one because I play in 2 bands and need to have the same feeling everytime.
The pedal looks very interesting. I wish someone would take the same approach to the hi-hat pedal. There was a hi hat pedal made by Orange/Jacques Capelle/Pro Mark that was the best hi hat pedal I have ever played, but they stopped making it and the second version wasn't as good as the first. I wish someone would take that original design and revamp it using updated designs and materials. I hope to try this pedal out since I understand the problem they are trying to resolve.
I kicked around on one of these things at my local music shop. Not on a bass drum, but god damn man, this thing felt incredible. However, I'm also very partial to the "vintage" style of pedals. I've never really liked playing on newer pedals. This thing is incredible and I can't wait to buy one.
I love Jojo Mayer. I have this pedal (which is my favourite pedal btw), the Sabian 22 inch OMNI and really want to get the Fierce hats, Anthology cymbals, and the Hoop Crasher. His stuff is just incredible!
By the way, I was absurdly excited when I watch this video and I'm a bassist! Haha. I can only imagine how you drummers are feeling! By the way, that track was so fresh. I can't wait for the Nerve work to be dropped!
It's a great pedal, thought it's not for everyone. It will suite you 100% perfectly only If you are Jojo himself. The only way to find YOUR "perfect balance" is to play around all kinds of adjustments on all kinds of pedals including this one. Plus you should keep in mind that it's only a tool, there is no pedal that will play your part for you, I have fancy new dw9000 and a cheap-ass Sonor 473, guess what - they feel 100% the same, because I've adjusted them the same way. :)
haha nice, I totally agree. He doesn't need them at all. I actually tried this pedal out today, It's just as good as I thought it would be.. I still love my DW 9000, but I'm thinking about getting this pedal because it's so compact, easy to bring to gigs and what not.
Pedal served me well since late 2012. After about one year of light usage, a die cast part holding a spring broke and Sonor made repair under warranty. Kudos to them. Few months ago, a spring broke, so I found spare part manual and learned that you can't buy spring alone. You have to buy tension spring unit. I called local Sonor partner in Croatia but no go, they didn't want to bother with such small piece. Then I called Sonor support. They had the part but cost was 28€ + 40€ shipping to Croatia !!!!. Total cost for broken spring was 68€ for pedal that cost 270€. That is 25% of pedals value. I tried other EU retailers (Thomann, Musik Produktiv) but couldn't get the part for less than 50€. Long story short, pedal is useless and broken and will remain like that. I ordered ACD Darwin double pedal for 1500€ and will never ever in my life buy another Sonor product. Btw, at ACD, spare spring cost 6€.
Just changing spring tension would completely change the feel of the pedal, moving mass up or down the beater or the position of the hinge on the footplate is a much better way to balance a pedal.
I'm pretty sure this pedal is possibly similar to the Speed Cobras by Tama. I know that when they designed it, they were looking for balance and the least resistance. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm still going to try this pedal to compare.
And I'll just say I play with a Double Pedal, because some people might get offended by what a said (idk), but I hardly use the slave pedal, unless I'm doing straight up double bass, which I don't really do very often. But I'm def looking to buy the perfect balance asap.
I´m sure nobody will read that but I try it anyways , i´m a metal drummer so i personaly like the mutiple choise of having to pedals . Yesterday I was trying that pedal , and it was amazing , probably the best pedal I´ve ever played . So my question to Sonor ( or JoJo ) is : Could you make a double version of that pedal ? That would be great , because metalheads don´t just hit around , we have a technique too :)
That sounds like something that would need to fully rotate to me. I find the spring on my pedals is best for getting the right throw feel rather than the return, but that might just be me?
I did get to demo this pedal. I would recommend it to most drummers with an old d hoop foot technique. But it’s a fast and light pedal also. Great engineering and great product. I’m endorsed by DW, pedals , Rack snd hardware. I’m a Mapex guy till 2017. Yamaha took a chance on me. I play a Custom Maple shell 9 pc kit with DW hardware and mounting rack system. Meinl Cymbals. I use the DWMDD double kick long board. Best direct drive pedal on the market in my opinion. I’ve played on all direct drive pedal companies. My choice was the DWDD DOUBLE KICK. Acid and Trick make exceptional pedals also. I learned heal toe on an Axis years and years ago. My professional career started in 1999 at 18. Now I’m 39 and have played all over the world. Hellfest 4 shows 6 at Sonosphere and 2 awaken festival shows. Arenas from the Garden to Red Rocks Amphitheater and beautiful Morrison Colorado and all in between. Stewart for two years with Metallica tour with Megadeth toured with lamb of God all supporting actor those vans best time of my life now I have chosen to stop being on the road as I have a family and I am now stay in the studio doing work for Warner Bros. doing lots of advertising , Movies, television shows, and occasional charity events for celebrities I’ve had a good career can’t can’t can’t complain. I have made a pretty good living for my family my wife doesn’t have to work my kids all attend private schools and I did it for the love of drums and for the love of music I could care less about the money of course it does not help LOL but I did make my million The first time after I turn 23 I net worth almost $9.5 million and that’s not my net worth that’s what’s stashed in the bank I think my net worth around 13 I live a simple life I have a simple house nothing extraordinary or huge about 3200 ft.² four bedroom three bathroom cost me 400,000 after the upgrades inside and I drive still my high school truck read that crazy Ha the wife now she gets the nice Tesla lol. I’d rather spend my money on having fun with my family and spoiling them rotten with college to Wishon clothes and all their little gadgets the kids love these days. I guess my point is if you were card put your mind to it you really can’t sit and meet your goals and never take no for an answer don’t let some negative asshole bring you down show him show him what’s up and show them who’s boss paid that negative shit and ran it right up their fucking bum hole metaphorically of course to all the drummers that everyone this play your heart out play with your soul play with love play with fun and play for your own sanity
Man, I've got that music stuck in my head now. I dig it. I assume it's a Nerve tune. Anyone know which one? And about the pedal, it looks intriguing. Can't wait to check one out.
That would be relevant, except that that is not what he talks about in the video to which I was referring. He was talking about how the return rate of the beater wasn't as fast as the attack rate, which is controlled exclusively by the force of the spring. "But what about the balance?", you ask. Well, sport, it works like this: it is impossible to achieve "balance" in any device where the axis of rotation is not located at it's centroid.
If this has any kind of similar feel to the trick V 1 pedal Im probably not going to like it. That trick pedal has a feel that seems what Jojo is describing. Very even and fluid movement fwd and back. My foot was so unused to that I couldn't adjust to it. I want to try Jojo 's pedal but Im cautious.
However, the popularity of offset/accelerator cams and double chain drives have made it difficult to find a simple, balanced, vintage-feel pedal (except the Camco is back!)
I feel the weakness in the pedal will come from the mounting system...i feel more comfortable with a screw like with pearl then relaying on soley a spring
does anybody know the issue if Jojo will play double pedals in end of December? I really wonder how kind of "freak foot-technique show" will that be. If there anybody knows please share :)
Jojo is a total genieus! I love his work, big inspiration. But I think I have one problem, I'm a left handed drummer, I play my bassdrum pedal with my left foot and since the (don't know how to call it) metal thing IS on the left side of the pedal I'll not be able to play Jojo's techniques fully. Are there anyone lefties who have problem with it?
+FireStormVideos I don't own the pedal, yet! But I guess it could be a problem if you use the slide technique where the foot moves slightly to the side as Jojo demonstrate on his new DVD - secret weapons 2. Either way I'll probably buy the pedal in the near future : )
+Lukas T Oh I see! No not yet, but I'm planing to buy it veery soon now, I want it so bad hehe. I'll come back with a 'review' here, see if there's any problems with the slide technique etc. : )
There's another vid called jojo mayer pedal in action where the pedal keeps failing though buy release they'll prob have it ironed out whatever the cause. Imma still get one. May-jun 2012, $248 US!
I bought one of these a while back and I cannot get it to fit the hoop properly. No matter what I do, when attached the heel of the pedal sticks up off the ground which causes the bass drum to rock back and forward and the toms move even further, annoying ! The kit is an vintage rogers kit, thinner hoops, but I have built it up with tape / rubber with no change. Any suggestions ?
Because it's a pedal Jojo himself envisioned would be the ultimate pedal, this is clear justification that most drummers who will like this pedal are Jojo fans, modern looking pedal fans, and sonor fans..It's ultimately a pedal made for Jojo Mayer and barely anyone else..when i asked a buddy of mine at my local shop if they've cleared out any of the pedals they've received, which is about 10 of them, his response was that only 1 was sold in 4 months.. Given time, they'll be collecting dust..
Jesus Christ 1:31 his hands and sticks. I'm not particularly interested in just circle jerking speedy chops, but good gravy. The rise and fall of the sticks paint a picture of the sound. Crescendo and fade.
tl;d(hear): new expensive direct drive pedal. But I love the fold up thing :D GO JOJO!! it would rock if there was a double pedal version, even if it isn't Jojo's style
I couldn't agree more. "Accelerator" trasmissions, uneven, eccentrical cams give you more impact force, but the feeling of the "stroke" is obviously unbalanced.

can't stop watching, I think I'm in love with this pedal...
I just ordered this pedal. I am so pumped! I've stopped playing double kickers for now to focus on developing my single foot technique
Good decision!
It's amazing! :)
***** Right!
I'm glad that I never played a double-pedal before, so the decision was way easier than for people who'd like to give it a chance but are in need of a double-kick (metalband etc...). Greez

every time I see Jojo playing, I wanna sit on my drums and play, play, play forever! haha
I'm now excited about two things. 1: obviously getting this pedal, and 2: The release of this badass song playing in the background
I'm a violinist who hasn't had a drum kit for 15 years but that sounds so beautiful and exciting even I'm starting to want one 😆
I've got this pedal.
No longer need a double-pedal from buying this pedal.
Perfect Balance and Perfect moving.
I purchased this pedal 3 years ago and I'm very happy with it... As Jojo says, it's transparent under your foot... effortless and so easy to play. Maybe I'm going to buy a second one because I play in 2 bands and need to have the same feeling everytime.

Best Presentation I've seen on a product in a while...Shout out to JoJo for the inspiring innovation!!

so clean and simple. and that's how i like it.
Jojo is amazing!!
Come and see Jojo perform live in Zurich, 8 April 2012.

I haven't been so excited about a piece of drum hardware since I bought my first kit from walmart at the age of 12.
i've just got mine.. its simply outstanding! Recommended
finally !!!! he's been talking 'bout that pedal he and sonor are developing for a loooooong time :)
Oh snap, I hadn't seen the part where it hooks on the rim by unfolding it before, that is CRAZY DOPE.
I'm pretty sure this pedal is possibly similar to the Speed Cobras by Tama. I know that when they designed it, they were looking for balance and the least resistance. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm still going to try this pedal to compare.

Best commercial ever !
Hi Sonor, I think Sonor and Jojo should release the double version of this pedal, that would be so interesting 😉
Epic foot technique at 2:55! If the pedal comes with the ability to pull that off, i'll place my order right now!
I am guessing the long awaited foot DVD is coming as well.
what's the back ground music ? like this song very much , and the pedal seems GREAT !
Agreed, but it would be a neat engineering exercise, especially with attempts to retain the fold-up characteristics.
Nice job.
Awesome stuff.
Love this pedal..l have two of them..😊
I need to change my pedal. I want to try this thing out.
Folds into playing position? What a really good idear

I've spoken to a friend about this and his wise words were "don't believe the marketing until you put your foot on the thing"
yeah ive seen a vid where he shows how he does it.. like its really just heel toe technique.. but really really good and even lol
Best pedal EVER!!!
looks great...

nice pedal :) i wonder what is the price of this pedal?
when is this going to be available ??
However, the popularity of offset/accelerator cams and double chain drives have made it difficult to find a simple, balanced, vintage-feel pedal (except the Camco is back!)
really want to try it!
I feel the weakness in the pedal will come from the mounting system...i feel more comfortable with a screw like with pearl then relaying on soley a spring
... does he have multiple locking things on the tension pole on the pedal??
does anybody know the issue if Jojo will play double pedals in end of December? I really wonder how kind of "freak foot-technique show" will that be. If there anybody knows please share :)
i don't know why everyone seems to be doubting this. Jojo is fucking smart, he knows his shit.
I want my drummer to have this!!!
its not an actual song yet, but it will be in there next EP
sir u r a master mind!!

?... Does your foot hit the spring column; I don't understand how that would be an issue.
+FireStormVideos I don't own the pedal, yet!
But I guess it could be a problem if you use the slide technique where the foot moves slightly to the side as Jojo demonstrate on his new DVD - secret weapons 2. Either way I'll probably buy the pedal in the near future : )
+skinkpaj
I am dealing with the same "issue"! Did you buy it and can tell me if it's a problem for us lefties? Thank you!
+Lukas T Oh I see! No not yet, but I'm planing to buy it veery soon now, I want it so bad hehe.
I'll come back with a 'review' here, see if there's any problems with the slide technique etc. : )
can't wait for the double pedal version of this one.
There's another vid called jojo mayer pedal in action where the pedal keeps failing though buy release they'll prob have it ironed out whatever the cause. Imma still get one. May-jun 2012, $248 US!
I would probably relook at the pedal if Sonor improves the hinge to bearings upgrade and better spring assembly.
I wont this pedal not just because its a sonor but because it looks like it feel so good
It looks so simple.
que se pliega entero!! me quedo muerto, bravo
maybe inapropriate, but are you gonna make a double pedal of it :)?
Thanks Jojo i hope it doesn't cost too much
Is it good for a loud rock sound too ?
what's the name of the song, that's playin at the begining? please tell me
If they did I would use this pedal exclusively till I die.
Shit... I'm sold.
Terminator voice: "I need your hands, your feet and your afro"
is this the white pearl finish on the sq2?
Somebody teach me the name of the tune of this video!! Please!!
DO
WANT....
Must buy now!
Does anyone know what the song is in the starting of the video?
whats that track playing at the back ??
whats the song in the background? ;D
i really want to mess around with one of thease
Is this Sq2 in white pearl finish? =)
I play one of these on regular basis, and it is the most diverse pedal on earth. Damn weird. Just needs to be a double and I'm set
pero cuanto chingaos cuesta en pesos mexicanos???!!!
So, where can i find one of this?
I'm not a vintage guy, but that is frikin sweet!
Thanks a lot man.
Any suggestions ?
do not tight too much. in addition (or alternatively) put something with the right thickness under your bass drum just under the hoop.
Do someone know the name of the song? Thanks

tl;d(hear): new expensive direct drive pedal. But I love the fold up thing :D GO JOJO!! it would rock if there was a double pedal version, even if it isn't Jojo's style
Please ...can you give me the name of this drum set ?
which drumset is it?
Oh you mean axis long boards right?
I couldn't agree more. "Accelerator" trasmissions, uneven, eccentrical cams give you more impact force, but the feeling of the "stroke" is obviously unbalanced.
