    Cast iron Dutch oven is a game changer, sometimes I'll bring two for heating up frozen stew or pasta sauce or chile verde or whatever you cooked and froze in anticipation of the camping trip. At night after dinner I'll make a dump cake in it or make a blueberry muffin mix in it for the morning or a coffee cake mix. Sometimes I'll make a cornbread mix in one and have chili in the another...all right on the coals.

      Same. I cannot live w/o my 3 Dutch ovens and 2 cast iron skillets. They are heavy and probably unnecessary, but the main reason we go out is to campfire cook.

    Great video. We use those plastic bowls that you showed as a plate because nothing falls off the edge. They are the best at less than $2.
    They're the same size as a plate and we don't have to worry about anything rolling off.

    We do the same thing, but use a long short bin that will also fit under the bed. We do bring a larger bin for dried food and the French press and 1-2 other larger items. The advantage of the under bed storage bin besides storage is that up there is less digging around to find things. There is only 1-2 shallow layers to dig through.

    • @WhereWeWild
      @WhereWeWild  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice!!!! That’s a great idea and a great point! 😃🤙🏽 We have everything in just the one bin so although there is some digging around involved sometimes lol at least it is only just 1 bin to pack. But we might be able to try that shallow one and see if we can downsize and still fit it all! 😃

    I pack the kitchen in a Stanley Fat Max (rolling tool box). Amazing what all you can get in there! ☺
    Also have the big Coleman kitchen. It's like 35 yrs old and only problem is i can't find a replacement sink. 😣
    So glad these days there are collapsible sinks & gadgets.

    Interesting Soap 🤔 .. I carry tiki 🪔 oil in starting camp fire 🔥 . Small amount 🪔 oil on wood 🪵 that lights easy with that bug gone scent . I enjoy a nice fire in minutes while setting up camp .. Moving on, I have two Swiss Gear computer back packs .. One pack is for all my organized cooking 🍳🔪 items , and the other pack for clothes , toiletries items .. I've met folks who commented on my 2010 Rav4 setup.. No platform.. No Walmart plastic bins . Spare tire mounted on back door, therefore, bedding and tool bag in rear floor area .. Yes , power station, water can, curtains that are on wooden dow s ( no bungee cords ) , and cooler too .. Nothing stored around passenger seat .. Ex military organization .. 😊 Cheers🎉

      @@WhereWeWild Totally agree Ive done both man. I just found that some expensive items are worth the price. I care more about value then price and I hate shit that breaks down. There is always stuff that is breaking down and needs repair so the more I can minimize that the better and I build that into my value assessment. I am a market researcher so I cant help but think about purchases in that way. Whatever you enjoy is really the key. One thing I can vouch for without a doubt in my mind being worth spending serious money on is a tent and clothing. Food doesnt really matter because you will be fed one way or another but being warm and dry is essential. I was hunting in lake superior with cheap gear when I first started and I must have had a litre of gallon of water in my tent and then it froze to pure ice. Luckily we were by the car but we were wet and frozen and from then on I really took that seriously. I also go hunting in the mountains out west about once a year so having the most comfortable, reliable, warm, lightweight gear is way more important than money. Try climbing a mountain with 60lbs on your back and a gun and tell me that you care about saving money lol

    • @WhereWeWild
      @WhereWeWild  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ar007r Hahaha I hear that man. 👊🏽😁 Definitely sweet to have the best gear you can, and for sure especially on serious trips like that in serious environments, it can even be life or death if you don’t have right gear. And on the other hand, the average family car camping for a couple days can get away with a lot less on a budget and still be more than comfortable and have their fun. 😊 Like I said, it’s just all about the game you’re trying to play out there. Sounds like you go in some fun trips. 😎🤙🏽

    • @WhereWeWild
      @WhereWeWild  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This would probably be fine for a family, just need enough plates and utensils and stuff like that for 5 people obviously, maybe a bigger 2 burner stove and some extra pots and pans to cook bigger meals for them if you don’t cook your food on the campfire with the cast iron.
