Given the fact we camp a lot on the beach in Australia, the best camp hotplate / oven is a marine BBQ. Something like a Galleymate or equivalent. 316 stainless, rugged, high BTU rating and designed to operate efficiently and retain heat in high winds. You can also add things like roasting trays / racks / rotisseries. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.
I have an Iceco fridge/freezer and LOVE IT!!! Half the price of of other big name brands. The compressor is the same as the others and has a five year warranty!
@@tannarious it’s a 12 volt, so I plug it in to my truck’s cigarette lighter while going to my destination. Once I’m there I’ll plug it in to my Jackery. I also "pre-cool" it at home before I load it
I have one of those coleman folding ovens My dad at some point put some self tapping screws in it so it stays unfolded. It is now probably over 50 year's old and I love it. Another ting its good for it will hold 6 small propane bottles but make sure when you take the bottles out use it that you make sure those little plastic caps on the end of the bottles are all out of there. By the time i realized it was in there to late just cranked it until it burned it all the out, Leason learned. Makes the best biscuits Grands 5 pack. I have nice thick aluminum pan that works best the thin pans tend to not heat as evenly
I like how you said your conclusion. On point. You really have empathy to your viewers. Because not all of us can afford those gears. But it’s good to know that we can buy it when we can. Though I’m not a fan of aluminum. Thank you for sharing
Folding oven is cool. I have had one for years. Also have a Coleman Max propane stove, multiple interchangeable cooking surfaces including a slow cooker. Not in production now for many years.
What an unexpected bonus! Five awesome overlanding videos for the prize of one. It reminds me of free baseball..., who doesn't like when home team plays extra innings and wins with a walk-off HR!
I prefer my gas Coleman stove, old school but built like a tank, great for simmering or cooking and saves bringing or disposing of bulky propane ( I have both the one burner and the classic thus I can choose) pair it with a Trangia and is less space than bulky propane or Isobutane lights in all kinds of weather or altitude and in a pinch I can even syphon gas from my car if needed. That collapsable GSI set rocks! I’m getting it. Thanks for the great video and tips.
What a fantastic video idea to collect input from all of the other channels. Bravo sir. For the record, I think this is the first time I’ve ever felt compelled to comment on YT. 👍
An easy modification for your table height is to find a wood post in the diameter you need to fit the table legs securely in. Drill holes in the sections you have cut to the length you need to match your tail gate height. I have used these extenders that fit the long folding tables used for food preservation classes I co-teach at the local Agriculture Extension office.
Awesome. We travel and homeschool so I love all the ideas. Get out and go and have the essentials and makes getting out with kids and family more affordable too.
@Venture2Roam park days middle of week and mountain biking trails to ourselves, drove cross country 6 times last 4 yrs. Like going when life calls. Be it adventure or even recently caring for my grandmother, it's so different to not be on a schedule with public school or 9-5.... it's like life has it's own pulse and we usually don't notice it when ur on some public approved conveyor belt. I don't know that I cud ever commit to going back to the way life was b4. I never fit into a box and it's great coloring outside the lines. Cnt compare ourselves to others either which is a good thing too. Even how we see ourselves and others have changed too, not all in the rat race so I won't need to compare ourselves to anyone else except to always grow on a personal level.
I've had my Jetboil Genesis for a couple of years now and it's fantastic. I bought it for the same reasons you did - compact pack size, large cooking area when open, and excellent heat control. Unfortunately it is not available in Australia so I had to buy it from a store in the US and get it sent to a package forwarding facility who then sent it on to me - an expensive way to buy but well worth it.
Yikes! It’s spendy over here without that international shipping issue. At least you’re happy with it. We’re still really happy with ours too. Thanks for taking the time to watch and share your perspective!
I’m just started this, I have a 02 forester bedding set up, a fire started, axe and a pot to boil with, I can’t wait to get some cool things on my travels!
Great job in inviting other channels to give their opinions on what works for them on camping trips also all the links to purchase the items that was mentioned in each video Have a great day
I bought the jetboil genesis last week and it looks great. After watching this video I just purchased the collapsible gsi pot and pan combo and the scraper. its bad when you are 7 grand in and still buying stuff last minute. I figure it is better to bite the bullet once on all the gear I need rather than suffer over many trips with a family. I am used to high end gear with years of hunting trips under my belt but I quickly realized almost none of that stuff applies when you start bringing a family with a young baby, wife and dog. If you have a baby I recommend the Morrison infant sleeping bag as well as the fleece bunting bag from Patagonia. I bought us all some merino wool layers and a few ultralight down blankets. For my main gear I got a Eureka copper canyon 8 person tent and a tarp system to go above or use as an outdoor covered area. I also got our dog a good sleeping bag in case night temps get pretty cold. I bought a bluetti 2000w solar generator with 200watt panel, a coleman queen cot/air mattress. And I am using the Mr buddy heater as backup heat with a portable CO/temp/hygrometer. 2 coleman collapsable chairs with a collapsible table, 2 pairs of merrell hiking shoes, a garmin inreach mini 2 sos/gps handheld, 2 yeti 14oz coffe mugs, a lifestraw, a new water filration system, a comprehensive emt grade medical kit, a butane attachement candle lamp, heavy duty tent stakes with drill attachement for gavel, and mutliple small kitchen, repair and other items. The thermoelectric cooler can run off the solar battery for the entire week without needing the panel as well. I am saving the yeti cargo trunk and yeti dry sack duffle bag for next year. Still looking for cool gear that I am missing but I think we are good to go now for many years to come.

Loved this video! Thank you for having other overlanders come and share! (in fact I now have new subscriptions!) I have a Hiker Trailer (yes, kitchen sink comes with me!) square drop and love cool gadgets and recommendations to make things easier and more streamlined. Keep up the great content!!
Not sure what I like more. That 4 out of 5 Overlanders prefer Jeeps or that I'm getting new gear next year. This was awesome!! Keep collaborating and making this kind of content.
At home, Bushcrafting, Camping... I don't often bother with food that stores in a refrigeration. Don't care much for dealing with ice in a box or using power, although I do use power at home for the computer and sometimes a light if it's too dark to do something. I used to have a mini fridge and a water dispenser and cook on electric stove/oven, but decided to cut down on power use. I got this small pump that fits on the spout of them big water bottles that are used for water dispenser (hot & cold water) and I heat the water with my butane camp stove or mini burner (uses isobutane canister). I don't use the lights as much as others in the family do. Only when needed.
I love the fact that you all got together with your favorite over landing kitchen gear. For me, yours was the best usable stuff also just hearing the Alpicool because many people don't want to put Iceco price point in their outdoor gear. Thanks for sharing! Didn't enjoy the last guy because it was focus coffee and stuff was broken, although his army pans was the highlight.
Thank you so much!! I’m really glad you watched everyone’s section. Matt’s military plates are pretty great…and if you ever meet him, you’ll understand his coffee obsession lol! Thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it!!
Fantastic video' Hey idea for ('Frey's on the side') a Silicon hotplate kept inside the Mess kit to keep it quiet' - also use to set upon' when on your lap' when food is really hot. 👍
The MSR Scraper, I didn't even know it was meant for dishes. A friend gave me one for scraping ice of my backcountry ski bases and brushing snow outta my skin glue. Always have it in my ski jacket pocket. I might have to get another for dishes...
Coleman stove has been discontinued.. so look after it. Seen hacks with it for a welding blanket 3-side cover for heat retention (especially in wind) and a pizza stone inside for even heat distribution. And yep.. a fridge.. 2 door and 2 zone helps power saving. Great collaboration effort. Loved the video. Thank you
Thanks for sharing! And thanks for taking the time watch, really appreciate it. We are doing more collabs like this very soon..hope they all turn out as positive as this one!
Thanks for this video. Very helpful, especially for guys like me who will go camping for the 1st time in three weeks. For me, one of the most interesting products and you forgot to put the link is the Camp Chef Rainier 2X stove.
Awesome Awesome Awesome video!!! Learned a whole bunch, especially how varied preferred setups can be. It really is to each their own. My wishlist just increased by about $2000 though...
Thank you so much! Those guys are awesome collaborators. So glad you got some good info...and my wishlist increased after making this video lol. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Glad someone mentioned cast iron. I have all the titanium, folding cookware...and I hate it. I love my cast iron wok. I even started using it at home too...i love it so much. I finally bought a 12V fridge. Best gear ever. I bought a BoughRV...not expensive; and a game changer.
Cast iron is great, as long as you have the space and weight. We love our little cast iron flat grill we can through on top of the stove. I so agree about the fridge…I face we just launched another collab vid talking about fridges..total game changer. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!!!
Great video. It occurred to me that the Outback Adventure Table might be attached upright to a truck bed drawer system. The developers of the drawer system would have to take this into account, but an upright piece of plywood, properly mounted and installed that slides out might work very well.
Great advice! I will defiantly look into it. Shortly after this video I bought the overpriced VSSL grinder. It's held up with some pretty good abuse, but will will check out the Hario.
well done informative video...thanks! Long time camper here, from tents to rv's...i'm absolutely thrilled with this {new to me} overlanding idea! i'm thinking my next setup might be toyota sequoia with a tear drop. not too much for this 64 yr old!
Hey FriesOnTheSide I got a cheap version of that mess kit (pot/pan/dish) at Walmart and it's not good quality and yes it is noisy moving around. I used it one time and not that satisfied with it, so I stored it away in my room to use for an emergency if something were to happen to the good items I have.
Regarding that MSR Scraper, the best time-proven way to clean on stuck food is to soak the item in water Warm water is better than cold, but cold still works. Leave it soaking for 30 minutes for hot water, 1-2 hours for cold water and stuck on food will fall off with little effort.
Love this and all the perspectives. When I look at new gear, I default to the old adage "WWMD" (What Would Matt Do). Love me some Ozark Overland. Thanks for putting this all together!
Great video. The only thing I disagree with is the 12v portable refrigerators. I bought one and I found it was either took up too much room. Or it was just impractical for just keeping beer and sodas cold. I have about 5 different sized ice chests from a huge one down to almost the size of a lunch box. I much prefer to grab the one I need based on what I'm doing. Me and my son only need a very small cooler for an overnight versus needing the big one for me my wife, my daughter and my son for a couple days. I don't get the whole it makes a mess thing? I guess if your packing bread in it or something? But other then that some really cool stuff. Just wish there were more options shown for us ice chest campers.
Great point! While we love having the fridge, it's not the RIGHT answer for everyone. In fact, I did another collab vid with some of these same channels focused on refrigerators, and we made a point to include someone who uses a cooler. th-cam.com/video/U9aWd_OHe98/w-d-xo.html
Have heard many horroer stories on coolers. Now after a few years how has the ICECO Pro refrig work and perform over time? Want to look at a option that works good over time. THX
Honestly, I get it with a family they prob want lasagna n all that. But me as a single guy with an old school vibe… mannn only things I prep to eat for camping are sandwiches, steaks, hotdogs, and breakfast stuff (eggs potatoes tortillas etc) Most I ever cooked on a campsite was French toast. Which really was like 3 extra ingredients, milk cinnamon, syrup to eat with
Great video. What is that grill with the spring handles that you use on your jetboil? I have a jetball and love it but I'm looking for a nice grill like that.
Better than wrapping them in socks?? LOL. I was like - "Matt - that only works in the armed forces lol." A bandana is a great idea. Thanks for leaving a comment!
Cheers for this. I've actually got my JETBOIL here on the kitchen table at home, was just looking at it. I think keeping it all the same is both easier & smarter probably called Wisdom. One gas bottle fits all. Cheers Dennis.
I'm surprised no one uses a Camp Chef 2 burner stove/Oven, bakes a 9x13 pan or a 12 lb turkey. Compressor fridge/freezers are game changers. I've been a fultime boondocker/overlander in a van for 5 years now, I'm not a weekender, I like baking and cooking. Camping to me means cooking anything I want to eat, not just hot dogs, hamburgers and such. No backpacking tiny boiler stoves and freeze dried crap for me. To each their own, live your style.
Can you do another one of these videos showing what you guys are using in 2024. This video is a couple years old and i figure a few things have come out since then. Nice gear though in this one. I will need to look into that cook stove.
Matt pointed out cast iron skillet. You have room, you’re not backpacking, a G.I. Mess kit won’t cut it. You did leave out Marcos at OVRLNDX one of the top overland chefs, his gear is muy bueno.
Fantastic video, we are not new to camping but relatively new to overlanding and I learned a lot of great new tips! New subscriber here to your channel and the others👋 Looking forward to a great 2022 camping and overlanding season and follow all of the channels for more great ideas. ~Shary~
Thank you so much! I'm actually launching another collab video like this today focused on refrigerators...and all of my collaborators are launching throughout next week. It's really fun to collab and hopefully share a bunch of perspectives for folks looking to get ideas or make a buying decision. So glad to hear you sub'd...I'm headed to your channel now :)

The MSR Scraper, I didn't even know it was meant for dishes. A friend gave me one for scraping ice of my backcountry ski bases and brushing snow outta my skin glue. Always have it in my ski jacket pocket. I might have to get another for dishes...
I need to get one for my skis now!
You had me with the Dewalt storage for kitchen gear, that drawer in the bottom is clutch.
The cool thing about those is that you can mix and match. For us it's been kind of the best of both worlds.
@@Venture2Roam lol I told hubby I wanted one of those when I saw them at home Depot... actually two one for tools and one for my camp kitchen.
@@lisacastano1064 Lol. Awesome.
Great video guys! Very helpful👍👍👍
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this video.
Very helpful, especially for guys like me who will go camping for the 1st time in three weeks.
For me, one of the most interesting products and you forgot to put the link is the Camp Chef Rainier 2X stove.
So glad you liked it! I think we're going to do a follow up vid for this stuff!
How are your adventures going? Hopefully XLNT! 🤙🏽👍🏽🍻
@@Venture2Roam Keep it coming! Love it! I'm gonna start with the 5 gallon propane tank mod. 😁😁😁😁
MATT my man! Go to REI and replace that wobbly table with the Mountain Summit Gear/Large Roll Top Table 47x28x28! I am in LOVE with mine!
Thanks for the advise! Will definitely put it on my list!
Absolutely love my Jetboil Basecamp!! Next up is getting a RigD Ultraswing with the folding table to cook on the back of my 4Runner
Sounds like a great setup!
Really great stuff in this videos! Great idea!👏
Thank you!
You can load Mason jars with salads and it keeps it fresh. Add dressing shake and dump
Great tip!
@@Venture2Roam Hi. Now using a Lodge grill pan which is great but heavy and bulky. What is the brand of your flat grill? Thanks.
@@cathyfurtado362 Hi Cathy - we use the Victoria reversible grill. We got it on Amazon: amzn.to/3LJddZF
Is the griddle 12"?
Great video. Love to see more like this.
Right on! I've actually made a few collabs like this: th-cam.com/play/PLv4WOiu-rUDCUx22xnEqGvZhxnHKsOFXF.html
I enjoyed this collab. I dig that sticker/graphic on your vehicle "SuBOURBON Cowboys"
Thank you! I need to make more of those subourbon cowboys stickers…they are pretty fun.
Love the folding table with pull out
We love it too. It’s one of the best investments we’ve made in our
overlanding setup. Thanks for watching!!!
The coffee tool is what I needed
Great video guys , thanks for sharing.
Thank you!!
Add a insulation blanket to the coleman oven. Game changer.
Great suggestions.
Great video. It occurred to me that the Outback Adventure Table might be attached upright to a truck bed drawer system. The developers of the drawer system would have to take this into account, but an upright piece of plywood, properly mounted and installed that slides out might work very well.
That’s a super interesting idea!
Great & useful video! Love the Collabs & great ideas! New sub!
Thank you so much. Can’t wait to do more collabs like this. So happy to have you as a subscriber!
@fry, get a Hario Skerton Pro grinder with a ceramic cone. For consistent fine grinds you will want the upgrade kit, also.
Great advice!
Great advice! I will defiantly look into it. Shortly after this video I bought the overpriced VSSL grinder. It's held up with some pretty good abuse, but will will check out the Hario.
Great video. Thanks for sharing 👍
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
well done informative video...thanks! Long time camper here, from tents to rv's...i'm absolutely thrilled with this {new to me} overlanding idea! i'm thinking my next setup might be toyota sequoia with a tear drop. not too much for this 64 yr old!
You should have LOTS of room with that setup!! So glad you “caught the bug”. Really appreciate you watching and leaving a comment!!
Very helpful! We are starting our adventure into Overland Camping style also here in Idaho. 😊
Cheers to another Idahoan!
Regarding that MSR Scraper, the best time-proven way to clean on stuck food is to soak the item in water Warm water is better than cold, but cold still works. Leave it soaking for 30 minutes for hot water, 1-2 hours for cold water and stuck on food will fall off with little effort.
Thanks for the tip!
Love this and all the perspectives. When I look at new gear, I default to the old adage "WWMD" (What Would Matt Do). Love me some Ozark Overland. Thanks for putting this all together!
Matt and Cara are the best...just super kind people!
Awesome video!!
Thank you!! We need to try to make those cookies at camp like you guys!! So fun collaborating with you!
Not sure about those Matt guys…
@@FreysOnTheSide 😂😂
The oven and 5 pound propane tank will be my next OL purchase.
Just 6 minutes in and I’m loving it. 👍👍
So glad to hear it!!!
Have heard many horroer stories on coolers. Now after a few years how has the ICECO Pro refrig work and perform over time?
Want to look at a option that works good over time. THX
Great ideas and great gear!! I really like the collaboration video!

Thank you so much!! I love these kinds of Collabs…so fun to work with other creators.
Its amazing to see how far Matts rig has came since this video. Its completely different.
Very True. I think he's gotten a new tear drop trailer since this video as well.
Honestly, I get it with a family they prob want lasagna n all that. But me as a single guy with an old school vibe… mannn only things I prep to eat for camping are sandwiches, steaks, hotdogs, and breakfast stuff (eggs potatoes tortillas etc)
Most I ever cooked on a campsite was French toast. Which really was like 3 extra ingredients, milk cinnamon, syrup to eat with
Nice video.. Thanks everyone for the tips!
Thanks for watching!!
Great to see you found V2R channel. You’ll love their content.
Great video. What is that grill with the spring handles that you use on your jetboil? I have a jetball and love it but I'm looking for a nice grill like that.
it's the victoria knox griddle. Love it. Still use it all the time. Get 20% off an Aeropress here: amzn.to/49ImWL4
wrapping the silverware in a bandana would be a good way to stop the rattling and it doubles as a napkin :)
Better than wrapping them in socks?? LOL. I was like - "Matt - that only works in the armed forces lol." A bandana is a great idea. Thanks for leaving a comment!
@@Venture2Roam 🤣🤣
Great episode, have some shopping to do
Thanks for watching. We have expensive friends 😂😂😂
@@Venture2Roam overlanding can be a fairly inexpensive adventure but there sure are a lot of shiny gadgets out there
@@longstepadventures7770 so true. You don’t need much to get out there and explore. I really appreciate Overland AZ for making that point in the vid.
Great and fun video!
Thank you!
Cheers for this. I've actually got my JETBOIL here on the kitchen table at home, was just looking at it. I think keeping it all the same is both easier & smarter probably called Wisdom. One gas bottle fits all. Cheers Dennis.
I agree with that approach! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!!
Great 👍🏼 information.Awesome video thank you 🙏🏼
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment. So glad it was helpful!
Not one mention of the AeroPress. 😮
Dude. I love the aeropress. Check out my nest coffee vid.
Milwaukee packouts are a great option for storage. Expensive but awesome
Great tip!
Great comment. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks guys 😊
You're very welcome!
Looks very Nice and its handy
I love how the 2nd guy said this took years you can have run of the mill and still have a good time. Makes me feel less of a loser. Lol
Josh is spot on there. None of us went out and bought this stuff right away.
Hi thank you for putting this video together. Where can I get the round griddle you show on your jetboil? Thanks

Can you do another one of these videos showing what you guys are using in 2024. This video is a couple years old and i figure a few things have come out since then. Nice gear though in this one. I will need to look into that cook stove.
Grea idea!
For the propane tank at 29 min should have a fuel level guage and a safety cutoff.
Great collaboration 🔥🔥🔥👍🏾😎✌️
Thank you! We just launched another one on Overlanding Refrigerators. Appreciate you taking the time to comment!
Matt pointed out cast iron skillet. You have room, you’re not backpacking, a G.I. Mess kit won’t cut it. You did leave out Marcos at OVRLNDX one of the top overland chefs, his gear is muy bueno.
We didn't leave Marco out on purpose lol...I'd love to do a collab with him someday.
@@Venture2Roam love to see that👍
Its hot and humid here in Evansville also. 98 degrees and 87 percent humidity
Yikes!! 104 in Boise today but no humidity to speak of. Hoping for a cool down soon!
