  • How to air layer a Dogwood for Bonsai
This Pink Dogwood (Cornus Florida Cherokee Brave) is destined to go in the ground in the front yard once I "call before you dig" and figure out where not to plant it.
In the mean time, I also want to make it into a Bonsai so I wanted to try and take an air layering from it. The process is fairly easy and I've done it before on some much bigger cherry branches, so hopefully this goes equally well.

I don't think Cheeto dust will promote root growth 😄
Best of luck with the air layer. Now I want a dogwood.

Nice tree🤘🤘🤘,its a cornus florida...There is a doublecut tool especially for airlayer that makes it easy...
    Gardner does this a lot.

Nice. I used to have a tool for making coax network cables that I thought might be perfect for the job, but I haven’t bothered looking for it. I probably should get something like that.

I got a nice dogwood at the end of my driveway. I started to air layer it a week maybe. it lost the outer protection from the wind. I replaced the dirt to secure it better and saw roots... It for sure needs a couple more weeks if I didnt just burn them with to much air. Good luck.

Good luck to you as well! I’ll bet that it will do fine. All this time later and I’m not seeing roots through the bag on mine yet. It might be time for me to open it up and see what’s happening in there.

@@willbreeze397 I did not want to open it. But I did want to redo it. I try to keep it wet every couple days. I made sure the bottom can drain out, I used regular soil. If you have a large branch it can take longer.
