    I love these videos, really help with my development. I came looking for help because I keep getting in a muddle with gears, going from minor to major roads and deciding whether to stop or continue (and ending up stopped in second gear), and going away realising I need to also work on not cutting corners entering minor roads with parked vehicles.
    Hopefully will get my A-License next month, and can book some advanced riding lessons with you early next year.

    Brilliant video. Can you elaborate on what you mean when you say "consider" a lifesaver? Are they optional at those points? Also, are the wheels allowed to touch the give-way lines?

    • @MotorcyclePWR
      @MotorcyclePWR  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @B C Thank you. Yes wheels are allowed to touch, but, you want to make sure that if you have to stop the wheel isnt over the furthest line onto the major road. Once stopped you can reassess and move forward as appropriate to gain view to facilitate emerging.
      Consider is a word used a lot in training. Thinking riders are safer. So for CBT and test some lifesavers are must do's, others are dependant on circumstances; eg, a small deviation in direction, low traffic levels, good regular mirror checks and constant rider awareness might mean mirrors are sufficient; the further the change of direction, heavy slow traffic, if the rider has been inattentive on the mirrors, or you are just aware that the risk of blind spot traffic is high, then use one. I hope that my rear observations video will give you more information. All the best

    During the MOD 2 test are you ok to slowly edge over the line at a give way if the view is blocked, and if you then need to stop as there is something coming is this going to be ok with the examiner?

    • @MotorcyclePWR
      @MotorcyclePWR  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Scott, if you approach a closed (no view) junction you must stop first at the give way line. Then you can edge forward with caution to get the view before emerging when the road is clear for you to join, stopping and starting as necessary depending on view and traffic flow. Remember that you must not "cause" another road user to change speed or direction.
      This would be the same at a Stop jct with restricted views; stop at the line as required by law, then move carefully forward to gain a view to emerge safely.
      To stop at a give way or stop line and then emerge onto the major road without view of traffic on the major road would put you and others in danger, therefore would be a serious/ dangerous fault.
      I cannot comment on what is OK with any particular examiner, but riding must be safe, legal and will be assessed in line with the National Standard for Rider and Driver Training. Hope this helps?

    When you're coming to a stop at a junction, do you use the front brake or the rear brake?

    • @MotorcyclePWR
      @MotorcyclePWR  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SyNcOps Thank you for your question. Which brake may be variable. For newer riders we teach a general rule of both brakes used together, with the front applied a fraction before the rear. This preloads the front with the weight and enables braking with the front to get rid of unwanted speed. This can be firm if necessary, but should always be progressive. The rear stabilises, and as the machine is coming to a final stop it is nicer to ease the front and complete the stop with the rear and hardly any front, if any at all. If you were already at very slow speed, then maybe use the rear brake only. If you had a machine with linked or semi linked then you will need to consider that a front application will usually also produce a percentage of rear, and rear may produce some front. Hope this helps, all the best

    great video, got my MOD2 on monday. if there’s a car waiting to turn right and is already in the box junction, can you still enter or must you wait before the white line?

    • @MotorcyclePWR
      @MotorcyclePWR  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi thank you. I hope your mod 2 goes well .
      You may only enter the yellow box if your exit is clear. The exception is when you are waiting to turn right and are only prevented from doing so by oncoming traffic. If i can help further let me know. All the best

      @@MotorcyclePWR so the answer is no? Because the car in front is not oncoming traffic

    • @MotorcyclePWR
      @MotorcyclePWR  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DG-ig4wj HC Rule 174 Box junctions. These have criss-cross yellow lines painted on the road (download ‘Road markings’). You MUST NOT enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right. At signalled roundabouts you MUST NOT enter the box unless you can cross over it completely without stopping.

    I’ve done my cbt on 25th jan this year and I’ve had a 125 bike for a while now. I don’t want to go straight for my test but wish to do some more training before hand. I live in north Kent. I see you might be local as few of your videos are on A2 near Canterbury. Do you have any ideas what training I should do and where from.

    • @MotorcyclePWR
      @MotorcyclePWR  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tony, thanks for your question. It is quite reasonable to want to do extra training on a 125cc, and although rare, I think it is sensible.
      A lot of the customers where I work do go from 125 or even CBT straight for DAS as the courses are good, but I have trained people extra lessons when they wish.
      The school I work for is based near Faversham, but you could approach any school to ask for individually tailored lessons.
      Any problems please mail me motorcyclepwr@gmail.com

    I know this is an older video. If I was approaching a traffic light controlled crossroad.. The lights are on green but a car is stopped waiting to turn right... There is no filter lane and the carriageway is only wide enough for one vehicle. Is it OK for me to go through the lights and wait a car length behind the car waiting to turn.. And even if the car can't turn (because of oncoming traffic) am I OK to follow him turning right after the light has turned red?.. Or should I wait at the stop line and move forward to take my turn just as the car starts turning. There is no box on the junction

    • @MotorcyclePWR
      @MotorcyclePWR  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @simonwood8685 thanks for your question. So generally speaking in the circumstances you describe, if the junction is big enough for you to be safely behind the waiting vehicle, then thats fine. It is sometimes wiser on smaller junctions to wait behind the stop line and only proceed when the car has moved to allow you the space. If you are already in the junction well beyond the stop line and the lights go red, clear the junction as soon as you can unless it is not safe to do so.
      Remember the Highway Code says that a green traffic light means go on if the way is clear, and re box junctions you MUST NOT enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right. At signalled roundabouts you MUST NOT enter the box unless you can cross over it completely without stopping. Hope this helps, all the best

      @@MotorcyclePWR thanks for your detailed reply appreciate it. I failed my mod 2 test... There was a car turning right... But it couldn't go because of oncoming traffic... So I stopped at the stop. Line.. As soon as he started turning I moved forwards did my shoulder check and turned... Maybe I should have waited behind the car a cars length behind.... Because I think the examiner was right behind me and he was expecting me to go.... He said he nearly went into the back off me..
      It wasn't an abrupt stop I just stopped at the line... I think he was really close because he didn't want to be separated if the lights turned red

    0:14: you should have stopped - the pedestrians on the drop kerb HAVE PRIORITY......................

    • @MotorcyclePWR
      @MotorcyclePWR  ปีที่แล้ว

      This video was recorded before the new Highway Code rules about road user hierarchy were introduced and also if you notice that there was a white BMW about to turn from my left onto the roundabout which would follow behind me, so if I had stopped there was a likelihood of me being shunted from behind. I saw the pedestrians and made the decision to keep going for safety; the pedestrians were stable and you will notice I changed road position to give them more space in case they did step into the road.
      Even with the new rules, it is stated that priority SHOULD be given, not that you MUST.
      Each case has to be judged on all circumstances, and road use with a simplistic approach leads to further problems.
      Thank you for your comments.
