    Glad everyone has been finding the mod 2 videos helpful and I thank everyone for the feedback. I am aware there were occasions I was over the speed limit, we all have bad habits when we first start riding. I will always take constructive criticism onboard but I will NOT tolerate silly or abusive comments on the matter. Ride safe. 🤜🤛

      @15.19 you were approaching a exit which was after 12, I see that you did took the right lane but did not indicated right signal as it is after 12.So as per my current knowledge is it a mistake or I need to learn something new. Please reply to me as I have my Mod 2 booked for the day after tomorrow.

      @rajmalhotra9766 for exits like this it's up to you really if you want to indicate to the right. There's no harm in doing a right indication as long as all your check and are done correctly and you signal correctly for leaving the roundabout. For me personally though I always treat exits like the one you mentioned as straight on and treat it like a straight on exit. If it was over towards the 3 o'clock position then I'd definitely be indicating to right as I'd be travelling around the roundabout.

    Although my mod two instructors were good, I was still confused about observations and lifesavers before watching this video. On the run-up to my test, I studied the heck out of this video to really drill in proper habits. Out on the road, speaking to myself about what to do worked a treat. Thankfully, I did not make a single observational error on test and I passed with one minor (which the examiner laughed about). I am no expert by any means and I still have much to learn. One thing is clear, however, I probably would not have passed without this content. Thank you for uploading! Incidentally, I now do the extra life saver. It feels safer.

  • @janinew233
    @janinew233 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thank you so much for the in depth explanation. This has definitely been a lot more helpful. I spoke with my instructor about it yesterday. It's the extra left lifesaver that I was told not to do cause apparently down here at the test centre in Nottingham it can cause you to get minors on your test. Supposedly they see it as you are doing too many observations, which means you are not looking ahead enough and concentrating on what's in front. I find it difficult not to do the extra left lifesaver with being a car driver for 34 years. I've spent thousands of hours and miles on the roads as I used to be a sales rep, so I was always aware and on guard of my surroundings. I suppose I have to change if I want to pass my Mod2 in June. Apparently that is the only issue they have brought up is my observations. I am doing them, but they've said they can't always see me doing my mirror checks etc. I think I am going to alter my mirrors next time so that I have to move my head a lot more, instead of just moving slightly. BTW I'm originally from Scotland and that's why I like to watch and listen to you. I would definitely recommend that you go into being a riding instructor, cause you have a very good explanation and a calming voice. 😀

    • @MotoEcosse
      @MotoEcosse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's crazy how different areas and schools/examiners have different views on lifesavers and when to use them. We also have minors for too many observations but usually only if you're do well over 2. As for the mirrors, what I was taught to do is to use your chin and point it to the outside of the mirror, that way your forced to make a big head movement that can be easily seen. I'm definitely interested in becoming an instructor in the future. Need to wait a few more years before I'm eligible, but on the plus side it gives me time to do all my advanced rider training etc.

    • @janinew233
      @janinew233 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    As a learner studying, what I arrived at was that whatever side of you that there's open road on /or both sides dictates what side or both that you carry out shoulder checks on. So when I exit a roundabout I check to see that the traffic on the exit before mine is giving way for me to pass and then that nobody is about to cut me up just before I exit.

    Interesting at 15:09 you did a lifesaver before entering because you stopped. I always found this distracted me and made it more difficult to enter due to these checks. Another instructor on TH-cam said not to do them when entering as it takes your eyes off the road and can make you miss your chance. Any idea how this would be seen on the exam?

    Hi mate - loving the videos. Have my MOD2 Monday and they’re really helping me - especially the roundabout ones. Test 8am in Musselburgh so expecting roads to be busy
    Had a quick question on the roundabout at 15:04. I think I would have been tempted to go into the lane left of the one you were in when on the roundabout. Looks like the traffic in lane. Could I have used either?
    Seen exit is past 12 o clock so know we would approach in right lane and there’s no 4th exit so guess that’s why it was rightmost lane for the exit?

    Hello
    I'm wathcing this just now, not sure if you are going to talk about this later in the video but before I forgot.
    How do you do on a roundabout with one lane only?
    No lane on the right, no lane on the left.
    No lifesavers needed?
    Thanks for the videos, big help.

    • @MotoEcosse
      @MotoEcosse  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends really, if it's a mini roundabout then no lifesavers are needed and you only need to signal while going left or right( mini roundabouts are usually just a small white circle). If it's a normal roundabout then the usual roundabout law applies i.e lifesavers and correct signalling. 🤜🤛

    In a first place thanks a lot for all the videos - I do have a lot of concerns about roundabouts and found your videos extremely helpful. Also mountains' views in some of the videos are stunning. Would have a question on the last roundabout view and right turn there to the left line (27m44s). Wouldn't be safer to turn right to the right lane of the 3rd exit? The reason i'm asking as if someone would be joining roundabout from our 1st exit and going straight they would land in our 3rd exit in left lane making it a collision path when they want to accelerate (straight line) and if we keep steady pace this could cause potential danger. Are there any rules against to use right lane of 3rd exit? Regards

    • @MotoEcosse

    When you approach to the round about from 6ocl intend to the third exit do you indicate right as you line up on the right lane and only change to left indicator as you pass the 2nd exit. Or not necessary to indicate right as you go round

    • @MotoEcosse
      @MotoEcosse  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, Munir. Yeah you're spot on. Indicate to the right as your approach so other road users know your intentions, then after you pass the last exit before the one you intend to take, in this case the 2nd exit, you'd pop your left indicator on.

  • @DougSJBrooks
    @DougSJBrooks 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    so for a bike, if you are turning right you don't need to move over into the left lane before the exit, you cut from the right straight across?
    in a car you would change lane before to position yourself ready for the exit.
    Great video by the way, it has however left me a little confused.

    • @MotoEcosse
      @MotoEcosse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The examples in the video are mainly for exits that have at least 2 lanes. So you would be fine to stay in the right lane and continue in the right lane providing it's clear. You can also choose to move over to the left lane if it's clear, just like you would in a car. The choice is yours. If it's a single lane exit, then yes you're correct, you would apply the exact same method as a car would. It all depends on how many lanes your exit has. Hope this helps. If you need any more info just let me know. 🤜🤛

    • @MotoEcosse
      @MotoEcosse  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Even though the exit itself is past 12, the road sign states it as a straight ahead so no need to signal. You always go by what the road sign or road markings say.

  • @davestatham8668
    @davestatham8668 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry to bother you but can I ask a question? What if you are at a roundabout from a main road and looking to take the second exit but the joins a dual carriage way? Would you stay in the right hand lane and join the dual carriage way in the outside lane then move over to the left once on that dual carriage way?

    • @MotoEcosse
      @MotoEcosse  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, Dave. It depends on the rules of that roundabout. For example, you want to take the second exit, so on approach you may be able to use both the left and the right lane. In that case you would stay in whatever lane you've chosen when taking the exit. If that exit only has the option for using one lane on approach, again this could be either the left or right depending on the roundabout rules, although this is usually the left lane unless signs state otherwise, ideally you would want to exit onto the dual carriageways left lane. Different roundabouts have different rules. Signs and road markings are key to navigating them safely.

    Cheers for explaining all this man really cleared up a lot of confusion as my life savers were all over the place! Quick question though that you didn't go over, what about single lane/mini roundabouts? I've been doing left life savers whenever leaving one but at times it feels wrong to look left when going straight on/right for example. Obviously with bigger single lane roundabouts it's easy enough to check both sides but when it comes to mini's there isn't enough time. Loving these videos by the way got my mod 2 coming up and you've done a really good job explaining everything!

    • @MotoEcosse
      @MotoEcosse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, Cameron. Glad you found it helpful. I could of swore I did a section in these videos on mini roundabouts 😂😂. I'll put together a quick video on them, but basically, when approaching mini's everything should be the same in terms of give way to the right and OSMPSL. With mini's only having one lane and realistically, not a lot of room or time when navigating them, you only really need to signal when going left or right. There just isn't really time or space to indicate left for an exit. This is the same with life savers. There just isn't time. Your on the mini then off in a matter of seconds sometimes. So basically, signal left for left, no signal needed for straight on and right signal only for right and no life savers needed. With there being no time for life savers, generally you want to approach mini's at a slow pace and in 1st gear. This gives you a bit more time to scan everything before making your way through the mini. Mini's are one of those things that some instructors may recommend a life saver, but I personally wasn't taught that way and did mini's this way on my Mod 2 and was absolutely fine. It's always worth clearing it up with an instructor if you can, but this is generally the way you would deal with mini's. Hope this helps mate and all the best for Mod 2. 🤜🤛

    Great video but I'm a little confused is it Turning left
    Right lifesaver
    Going straight ahead
    Right lifesaver
    Turning right or full circle
    Left life saver

    • @MotoEcosse
      @MotoEcosse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, if you're turning left, you don't always need a right lifesaver but if there's traffic in the right lane next to you I do a right lifesaver to make sure it's clear. For straight on you have to do a right lifesaver as there's a lane to your right, but if you were in the right hand lane going straight on, you would have to do a left lifesaver as there would now be a lane to your left. For turning right or going full circle it's a left lifesaver because there's a lane to your left, but if you're on a bigger roundabout with multiple lanes and there's lanes to your right and left, you'll need to do both. In this case you'd have to do the right lifesaver first, then the leftsaver before taking the exit.

    • @MotoEcosse

    Have an upcoming Mod2. Would like to ask you as sometimes I tend to do more lifesaviors every 6-8 seconds,can this be a potential downfall?
    If there is a moment where I forget to do a lifesavior on entering a new road lets say right turn but did the mirror-indicator-shoulder check but forgot the second one before the actual turn,can this be a fail? Im not attending any school apart from the CBT last year, Mod1 was passed recently as im upgrading my license with the knowledge no lessons needed.
    If it happens to forget to make a shoulder check a single or two during the 40 minute test can this be a fail? The easiest for me to make the lifesaviors are in the roundabout,they are like second nature to me.
    Another question is If on changing the road position it happens to be fast change after giving the mirror-signal-shoulder check getting on next position faster instead of smooth,can this be a reason for a fail (control part) despite making all observations and a respectable distance is being maintained from the vehicles in front and back?
    An answer will be really appreciated.Thanks.

    • @MotoEcosse

      Well if it's a roundabout and you go to take your exit and you see it's not safe when you do your lifesaver, you wouldn't take the exit. Just carry on around the roundabout. For maneuvers like the U turn, you always do a lifesaver before the turn. If you see something when you do your lifesaver simply pull back over and stop, then wait until it's clear again.

  • @marksumner991

    Hi, this has been really helpful thanks. Two quick questions, when turning right at the roundabouts your diagram showed out taking the left lane exit (at 3pm position) and using a left livesaver. If you instead exited into the right hand lane I am assuming you are still taking the left lifesaver. Wouldn't it be safer to use the right exit? Also how would the advice differ for mini-roundabouts?

    • @MotoEcosse
      @MotoEcosse  ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally I always do a lifesaver when there is an empty lane i.e empty lane to the right, check right, empty lane to the left, check left. Always do the left lifesaver last. As for mini's, you only need to signal when going left or right. No need for lifesavers or signalling your exit(although I sometimes do).

  • @craig9143

    Hi, I have a question regarding mini roundabouts. Is it correct say you do not signal on exiting at mini roundabouts if your going straight ahead ? Obviously you would if turning left or right.
    I see some bikers sign left on exiting and that can be confusing due to little or no space between the first and second exit .

I can ride a 50cc motorbike without L plates and can even carry a passenger..and I don’t need to take a CBT. Seems mad.. but I can’t ride a 125cc unless I take the CBT. Don’t get me wrong I think the CBT is good.. which route should I take . Ie get a 50cc and get out and get some real road experience on something that can only do 30mph. Or go for the CBT training and get a 125cc. My experience with a moped is sometimes not enough power to get you out of trouble . People trying to get past you all the time..it’s a bit like riding a push bike..Great video I’ve been glued to all the info..

    • @MotoEcosse
      @MotoEcosse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, Jimmy. Personally I'd go down the CBT route. Scooters are fine but for real world bike experience you're much better on a geared 125. 125s on average can go anywhere between about 50-70mph depending on the bike. Having that clutch and slow maneuver experience also is a big plus for when you decide to start training for your licence. You can't really do that on a twist and go scooter. It obviously means having to pay a bit more in terms of the CBT course and buying a 125, but I personally think spending a few months on a 125 can make you a more confident and skilled rider overall, which then makes completing your full licence an easier and less nerve wracking experience. 🤜🤛

    Mirror, mirros, signal. See, I'm a Pole, living in the UK, I'm doing DAS now, I'm retaking my MOD2 test next week. The way I was taught to turn, change lanes on my cat B training is first signal and then check you mirrors. Here is the other way around and my instructor was treating my like a criminal by doing it that way. Also when indicating that I'm turning left for the lane that is turn left only. I mean was the problem with indicating even if you don't HAVE TO do it? Where not dealing in absolutes here. I mean how on Earth putting my indicator on, before checking my mirrors could possible bother anyone on the road? Same with joining the traffic/angled start. What's wrong with having indicator on these extra 2 seconds?

    • @MotoEcosse
      @MotoEcosse  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah some instructors can be strict, especially with indicators. If the left lane is left only then no real reason to signal. I'll be honest though, I still sometimes signal, especially in built up busy areas.
