You make sense, I've never once understood what is the purpose for destruction tests of perfectly good tools . Even if the knife is a inexpensive one. If it works and preforms well that is what is most important. With the proper level of missuse any tool can be destroyed. But with care a little elbow grease and TLC, a tool can be used hard and then passed down to the next generation. I have several knives from great grandfather, grandfather, uncles and my dad . One special victorinox EDC adventurer that a brother from Vietnam carried and was given to me upon his return ,I cherish it very much and keep it razor sharp and use it as much as I can. It has served me well.
I love my Moras, thanks to you I'm surely a bit harder on then than before lol I just removed the hollow grind off a Robust yesterday. Thanks for sharing Stay healthy brother
The mora companion HD was my first bushcraft scandi. Though I love that fact I can use it and abuse it, it was a bit troublesome with feather sticking and basic carving. When I transitioned to a Kellam Puukko with a thin blade, I was amazed with the difference.
Funny mate, I bought the same knife about 2 weeks ago. I completely agree with ya, good knife but needs a sharpen. I used it to finish carving a spoon I was doing, did the job but just not razor sharp. I was surprised at the size of the handle, it is quite big and the weight, bit of a hike from my LMF Fireknife
Great video as usual. In my region I don’t need wood chop or batoning. I use my knives mostly for game dressing, food prep and other choirs. I have many Mora knives but I don’t have any Companion HD. Do you think I should get one?
The HD is not convex. The feather stick issues are simply related to the fact that the HD is thicker, and thus a steeper grind, which forces the knife to a wider angle against the surface of the wood - that is why it actually bites into the wood deeper, rather than slice along the wood surface, like thinner knives do.
Thanks for the review. Loved the bloopers ending. Question: how is edge retention on the stainless vs your carbon steel version? I have 2 of the carbon versions. Love them, but I live in florida so blade maintenence is a constant.
The stainless knife is long gone and I haven't used the carbon one for about two years so unfortunately I can't answer your question, I generally prefer carbon on a cheaper knife.
@@RobEvansWoodsman honestly I rarely watch to the VERY end, I turn off when it looks like you've finished but today i was listening in the car, thought it had finished then the bloopers came on while sat at a red light.
This seems to be one the best knives on the market from a quality/price ratio standpoint. I have the regular Mora Companion, beat the shit out of it (including cutting nails, barbwire). The edge is damaged but still very usable and going strong. They're so cheap that you can put them through hell and don't worry about it. Great video as always. Cheers and thank you.
Good videos just found your channel, I have 2 mora knives, god knows I dont need another one, but what about silky saws? They have good reviews but aint cheap, can they be sharpened when blunt? Can you do this yourself? Thankyou
Silkys are awesome but you'd have a job to sharpen them, teeth are pretty close together and they can snap off, I'm missing a tooth on my Gomboy. I have a few that I use in rotation but I don't mind spending on my tools because I love using them. ATB. Rob

I think the sheaths are the same size, just in my opinion and have tried both knives a few times. The slightly larger HD handle just moulds the sheath to that size a little, but its barely noticeable so to put a standard Companion in an HD sheath you just push the knife handle down/in ever so slightly further. Cheaper for Mora to have standard sheaths for Companions. I am pretty sure they are the same. 👍🇬🇧
Exactly my wish too. For that Mora. It's what I have and my first bushcraft knife. Not buying a $200 stone though. Sharpening on a budget reflective of the cost of the knife. And nobody makes better feathers - nobody that isn't an egglayer, that is.
@@RobEvansWoodsman I watch your videos also because your accent is calming, except when the expletives come out! But even with a welsh accent, it’s sorta cool
If I could only have one silky it would be this one, bigboy straight blade medium teeth, and I have a lot of saws. If I was buying the Zubat again I'd go straight blade.

A lot of people prefer the regular Mora Companion with its thinner blade over the Companion HD for that very reason.
I prefer the regular companion.

I've noticed the HD doesn't feather or carve as well as other models do with thinner stock.
The carbon one was ok but the stainless had a very high grind making it quite shallow and it bit into the wood rather than shave.
