    Considering the Welsh Government have pretty much cancelled a possible third Menai crossing, I wouldn’t hold my breath any new bridges in Llanwrst, but surely there’s a better solution.
    In Warrington one of the single track humpback bridges over the Bridgewater Canal ended up having traffic lights being bolted on to its junction with the A56, and whilst peak time traffic is far from ideal, it’s certainly stopped cars having to reverse back over the bridge.
    Either way it’s a no win situation. But old bridges like this should be preserved and traffic taken away from it. I’d have favoured that if a third Menai bridge was built and keep the suspension one only open to pedestrians and cyclists, but hey ho. Great video as ever Bryn.

    Can only assume Conwy Council wanted traffic lights but the Welsh Trunk Road Agency (in charge of the A470) said no. So they did this instead. Those wig wags don't do a lot of wigging and wagging either.

    Nice to see the bridge at Bangor-on-Dee. It always fascinated me as a kid, due to the slip road from the southbound A525, and the fact that when you returned home from visiting my Auntie Heulwen there, you took a different route. That would’ve been in the very early 80s, and it blew mind when I found out as a grown up that it was only bypassed in 1978. Prior to the A483 and A5 upgrades from the 80s and 90s taking a lot of the southbound traffic from Wrexham off the A525, this must’ve been quite the bottleneck.

    I used to live in Betws-y-Coed and I never knew about the Sundial!

    If my memory serves me correctly, there is a full Traffic Light System over the historic Bridges at Bidford (Warwickshire) Avon & Heyford (Oxfordshire) Churwell.
    At Welford on Avon (Warwickshire) there is a "Give Way" system, but you can easily see to the other side (not blind type summit)
    I've encountered more, but I can't remember where they were, including Canal and Railway (under and over)

    Odd wigwags that don't actually wigwag.

    I had this happen to me at this exact bridge a few years ago IRL when I went to wales and believe me it is impossible to cross. Certainly a strange bridge

    I've been fascinated with this since I first heard about it 20 odd years ago. When Google Streetview launched it was one of the first places I looked up. Great video, interesting Wig-wigs or are they wag wags?

    Makes you wonder if enforcing an outright ban on idea roads is such a good idea. The only way this will ever be solved is if the bridge becomes dangerous for vehicles to cross.
    Would probably be better to construct a new unintrusive bridge and close the existing bridge to vehicles.

    How about part-time one way in either direction? Sort of like a tidal flow but one lane?

    Why do they flash both lights in sync, really bizarre. Saw this myself in person and was very confused, doesn't seem to meet any kind of standard. Are they supposed to flash like wig wags? So confusing!

    • @BrynBuck
      @BrynBuck  ปีที่แล้ว

      I suspect they're meant to flash as per standard but either a wiring or timing fault has developed.

    Nice video, but is it not wrong to call the lights wig-wag? when wig-wag means alternating, these flash in sync with each other

    • @BrynBuck
      @BrynBuck  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they're meant to be wig-wags, it's not in the TSRGD to flash in sync so something's gone wrong somewhere.

      In Wales, we know these as wig-wig lights. Or is it wag-wag? I can never remember.

    I can see why there is a problem with the bridge and traffic. Why aren’t the Welsh Government doing something about it and to build a new bridge to end the monstrosity including drivers having to share the same road. But in one direction and to relieve the congestion. Be better off building a new road bridge.

  • @jerviservi

    With all this money the Welsh Labour government is saving by building no *new* roads, they may now be able to afford to build a better vehicular bridge, and then turn the existing structure into a non-motorised user only bridge.

  • @UK.RoadsCyclingandTransport
    @UK.RoadsCyclingandTransport ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The Welsh government would never want to build another crossing, they hate cars and building roads for that matter, speaking of which you should pay a visit to the dyfi bridge which is being replaced
