'Is The Law More Important Than Religion?' | James Whale vs Imam Ibrahim Mogra FULL Interview

  • Religion has long played a significant role in shaping societies and the lives of individuals around the world. It serves as a means for people to connect with a higher power, receive guidance on how to live their lives, and find a sense of purpose.
However, despite its potential for promoting compassion and kindness, religion can also be misinterpreted or misused by its followers, leading to harm and division. In a recent interview with an imam, Ibrahim Mogra, the benefits and challenges of religion in today's world were discussed, shedding light on the complexities surrounding faith and its impact on society.
James Whale clashes with Imam Ibrahim Mogra from the Muslim Council of Britain.
"You're not answering the question... is the law of this country more important than the law of your religion?"
Ibrahim acknowledges that some individuals may misuse religious teachings to justify their own evil actions, while others may simply disregard the teachings altogether. This misuse of religion has been seen throughout history, such as in the Crusades, where Christians engaged in violence against non-Christians. Today, there are instances of hate and threats from some Muslims, which Ibrahim strongly condemns as un-Islamic and unacceptable.

As an English man watching this was so cringe. Listening to two appallingly rude and hostile hosts, insinuating and trying gotchas every 10 seconds was embarrassing.
Fair play to the guest for remaining calm and not reacting.

I've been married to a Muslim woman for nearly 55 years while being a Christian myself. I've noticed that my Muslim family values me more for who I am as a person rather than focusing solely on my religious beliefs. Unfortunately, my Christian parents have never fully accepted my wife due to her being Muslim.
Despite the passage of time, the world we live in today isn't much different from 55 years ago. While there are more people who embrace change regardless of religious differences, there's also a growing number who resist change, leading to more challenges and fewer solutions.

The issue I think is death threats made against a teacher by muslims, and bomb threats to the school, as it made a ban on praying . This is in part due to observed peer pressure from muslim students to other muslim students including being told they were bad muslims for not praying so they began praying, one student was pressured into wearing a headscarf while another dropped out of the choir they were told it was forbidden or harem by other muslim students. Students need to know that harassment is not acceptable. The reason they are not bringing Jewish on is obvious, they aren't causing issues, and people of that faith aren't threatening teachers and making bomb threats. Muslim leaders do need to speak up and condemn intimidation and violence and this is a platform for this imam to speak, and also to have his beliefs challenged. It has to start happening as there are pockets of areas in western countries were sharia law is happening which takes humanity backwards. We have fought for democracy in the west and this does need protecting, we can't have death threats and violence against people who don't share muslim beliefs. A British politician David Amess was killed by an islamist, another recently stepped down due to intimidation, there are jihads being placed on people for expressing views. This problem is only going to get worse, they are having a conversation here, no harm done.

There's a quotation from a US politician along the lines that my freedom of movement of my fist is limited by the proximity of your chin. Basically your freedom is fine but not when it seriously impinges on others rights. This covers both religious and temporal freedom's. Otherwise the logic would follow that with religious freedom trumping civil rights a cult who embraced human sacrifice could merrily operate unfettered. The argument about civil law being supreme in England was settled pre Magna Carta by Henry II under his Criminous Clerks Law. Previously, lay members of the Church could avoid prosecution by the civil law as they were part of the Church and not the State.
