    *Iranian is the nationality*
    *Persian is the ethnicity*

@1 looper They had it right though? Iranian means you have origins from Iran and is a more vague term because not all Iranians are Persian. There are Arabs, Kurds, Azerbaijanis, Jews, Armenians, etc. And I say this as a Persian myself.

Yara, you've no idea how magnificant and well-put this series are documented. I tip my hat off to your excellent hard work. As a 7 years old Iranian child, who's parents fled as refugees to The Netherlands, I've always felt lost in the two identities. I can't truly feel Dutch, since I've always been seen as an immigrant, but neither am I fully Iranian.. I even feel like I've left a peace of my heart back in Iran and never had the chance to meet it again, since I've not been back in these 17 years of our stay in The Netherlands...
But thanks to your honest view on this topic, I realised that it's best to embrace both and love both identities.
So thank you, for helping me figure it out.
By the way.. your parents are the cutest 😍

Very nice series. I'm an American going to Iran for a couple weeks next month and it's nice to learn about the Iranian-American community in the US/California. I'm from a small Ohio town and don't know many Iranians and didn't know about the community in LA (and haven't watched that tv show), just going for the experience and chance to learn about a new (to me) and misunderstood country and culture.

I've watched a lot of travel documentaries (Anthony Bourdain, Rick Steves) and vlogs to get a feel for the country. Also watched documentaries on the Persian Empire and the US-Iran relations from the 50's to present day to better understand the history between us. And most importantly I've watched a lot of food videos, ready to eat everything over there. Pretty excited, can't wait!

balooko31 Nice, im sure you will enjoy Iran there and look at it from the point of view of a typical iranian and not the terrifying ruling regime/government. Oh and one suggestion: Iranians keep doing what's called the "Tarof", its where they insist and you resist! Its weird but it is a sign of respect or something like that, so if anyone tarofs by like for example offering you a gift, then just say something like "no i cant take that". :)

    • @sina6092
      @sina6092 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Brent W the terrorist regime who rules Iran is not even close to the Iranian people. During the revolution, this regime promised the citizens a glorified iran and everyone would be happy, buuuuut they did not fulfill any of the promises. But think about it though, if Iran still had its monarch and relations with other countries then it would be one of the most modern, peaceful, and first world country in the middle east or even asia from what I predict.

@synco pated to be honest, these couple of months I have gone through some changes and realizations of the zionist deep state and american imperialism and I to some extent agree with you. But I believe the state of the people, the living standards, etc would be much better with the crappy puppet monarchy. I would make that sacrifice.

I am 60 year old Man I left Iran when I was 13 since then I have lived in the U.K in The U.S.A and in what was called West Germany and finally in Dubai.
In London I have seen the national fronts the Brick stone affair the Falkland war the Iron lady transforming the British society
In America I was treated very harshly often called a Mexican as if being a Mexican was something bad In Germany I have been called the Schwartz Kauf ( black head ) Ausländer raus ( foreigner get lost ) I was hoping that one day we can see beyond racial , religious beliefs and ethnic backgrounds with the advancements in science , humans can live a harmonious and a happy life.
Unfortunately we still have the hunger the greedy rich and the sneaky people and no happiness is at sight for the mankind. My misfortune is neither am I accepted by other cultures nor in my homeland being Iran .
That is why I recommend Dubai to people like myself obviously only Dubai in the United Arab Emirates as I have had a very good experience with for the past 20 years.

Not too long ago, people used to say that 49-50% of Iran are persian, rest are kurds, azeris, gilakis, balouchis etc. But as the assimilation policies are taking hold, more and more people are losing their mothertongue in favour of (standard) persian. Which is why people talk about 60% persian. It's an extremely negative development.

So when people say Persian it could mean Iran, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, some Persian people scattered around the Middle East and Turkey. So remember when someone says they are Persian it can mean other places and people in that Persian culture/ language group.

The only part I'm disappointed in is that missing the part where a lot of Persians call themselves that because they identify with the ruler b4 the revolution and not the government that took over. I only knew one Persian in my life and this was a very strong sentiment with her and her family. While she respects the place being called Iran she remembered what it was and how well the country was then. Anyway, other than that it seems descent.

Love the series, but if you say your being stereotyped in roles or discriminated against. How are you going to do a series about Iranians and not talk about ALL the people. This perpetuates the theory that Iranians don't like black people or dark skinned Iranians. (As said in Shahs of Sunset lack of appearance in your series makes me to believe it's true what was said in their show by Asa. Iranians really don't like black people. Other than your mentioning of Iranian American Yara Shahidi would others ever know there are other black Iranians.) I seen nothing on them yet I've seen on TH-cam many videos of the African diaspora being there in Iran. If you don't know any it would be good to introduce yourself to some. Here's a video talk about Afro-Iranian struggles. th-cam.com/video/s_iiHVN7x5k/w-d-xo.html I hope you and AJ+ can do a video on this soon with diversity and inclusion in mind. Thank you and Good luck on your future projects.

Goddess Miranda.Cosgrove They do now with talks about Syria and Yemen also disturbances in Israel with Palestinian people. Its being said that Iran is causing the problems in the Middle East. I don't believe that though it too much to blame on Iran. Too many issues there along with countries.
