As a former Air Force AeroMed during Vietnam, I can honestly say that I NEVER had to treat a wounded son of a Politician, Rich/Famous Person. Why? Because they were afforded special exemption from the draft or if they did go into the Military they were given cushy jobs State-side. I definitely was NOT a "Fortunate Son".
My dad was a fortunate son of sorts. When he was going into college, someone told him the situation in Vietnam was going to explode - so he joined ROTC. When the war kicked off, he became an Air Force load planner in Okinawa.
I just saw John Fogerty perform this song last Wednesday, here in British Columbia! He played a couple of dozen of his CCR hits, but this one got the best crowd reaction! He was soooo happy to be able to play his songs again, live, after all the decades of legal hassles. It was one of my favourite concerts ever!, and I’ve seen hundreds of performances! Peace
@@GoriusMaximus It was a total “feel good” show! Loved his son’s band Hearty Harr and the fact they were both the opener and Fogerty’s backing band! They were fantastic. Cosmo’s Factory was one of the first 3 record albums I ever bought, waaay back in ‘71! Peace

Such a classic CCR song and played in just about every movie about the Vietnam war. The vocals, lyrics and driving beat are spot on. Thanks so much guys for reacting to this one!
Still waiting for Jackson Browne's "Running On Empty" but enjoying every video until then.... And obviously after, because I'm your biggest fan!!!! Love your content, your real reactions and emotions.... I'm here for all of it. Again, thank you both!
This was an anti war song, and most veterans love it. During the shut down , he and his kids did videos . Watch how he celebrated his 75 th birthday doing Centerfield.
Classic anti-Viet Nam war protest song. I received a low draft # in 1971 and quickly enlisted in the USAF. Wound up serving 22 years and loved every minute of it.
I got my Draft Notice In Dec 1969. I thought I was exempt as "Sole Surviving Son" (Only boy and father died a month before my 13th Birthday) but to be considered that in the eyes of the Draft, Father must have died while in the Military. Asked the Air Force Recruiter if that was true and he said yes, but if I enlisted in the Air Force I wouldn't be stationed where there is hostile action so I enlisted. Stationed at Scott AFB but flew all over tending to the wounded while they were aboard the Aircraft. They started the Lottery System while I was in Basic Training and my number would have been 363... DAMN!!!! So close! LOL Got out after my 4 yrs and didn't continue in the Medical field either because I saw enough to last me a lifetime. Humorous Note: While in Basic my Mother forwarded a letter I received from the Government. It was a letter stating that I failed to report for my induction physical and I could be prosecuted for "Evading the Draft". Showed it to my T.I. and he got a laugh out of it and showed it to the other T.I.'s and said he would take care of it. After that, he always called me either "DD" (Draft Dodger) or just "Dodger".
Hi too you both👋I'm from America & was a musician for many years, now 66, and CCR was one of the "need to know" bands. They have been disbanded for years but John Fogerty, Guitarist, wrote all the songs and still is active
Sixty-nine years ago, America entered the Vietnam War in (1955). America pulled out of the Vietnam War in (1975) after being there for 20 years. It was supposed to be a police action with limited number of troops. Instead, it ended up into a full-blown war with over 50,000 Americans losing their lives. CCR made a couple of anti-war songs including this one during that time. Many a politician sons and millionaire sons with influence never went to war. They used their influence peddling to avoid going into the war or getting drafted. That is what this song is all about. Being Privileged had its advantages during this time. It was the working-class sons that were drafted and sent into war. Great upload and topic. Luv you guys' Florida USA.

I'd like to respond to you comment about "I wonder why ... some people who have everything, frown while some people who have nothing are always smiling all the time" (paraphrasing) ... by telling you a little story that I've always thought about ... He was scrawny, ear bitten up, he was filthy, mangy, etc. but he would come up to everybody, look at them ... always smiling, ...and a guy working there, who was confused about it, saw him 1 day and asked me, "Why is he always smiling", and I responded, "Because no one's trying to kill him today ... so today, it's a pretty damn good day".
