    Wow, thank you guys for 20,000 views! I know that probably isn’t considered a whole lot in TH-cam land, but it’s way more than I ever expected! So cool to see many of you getting excited for your own thru hikes this summer - enjoy! 😊

    Great video. Loved seeing the sheep herder. I would love to do this hike, it's practically in my backyard. These old hips that I've been dragging around for the past 70 some years just won't hear of it. I still get to do my little day hikes. Happy trails!

    • @MarmaladeOutdoors
      @MarmaladeOutdoors 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MikeWindsor oh man thanks so much... never had to worry about a March start date on the pct when I went. So when do you think the earliest you could go in spring and not hit too much snow on a normal year? Do most people hike it NOBO or SOBO ?

    • @MikeWindsor
      @MikeWindsor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      June is considered early in all but a low snow year. Many go SOBO, and doing so will allow you to start a little earlier as the northern stretch of trail stays a little lower in elevation.

    • @MikeWindsor
      @MikeWindsor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! I use a Loksak Opsak and always sleep with my food. I know some disagree, but I think it’s better than hanging food and I’ve yet to have a problem in 4,000+ miles. Happy trails!

    • @flyartist7114
      @flyartist7114 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MikeWindsor Awesome, ok thank you! I was torn between doing just that (sleeping with my food in an Opsak) or buying an Ursack and tying it to a tree. I've heard that hanging isn't very ideal for much of the trail.

    @chrishennemeyer7276 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    A question, Mike. I'm planning on hiking the CT this summer and my girlfriend would like to join me for a week or so. Are there a few sections you'd recommend, bearing in mind altitude acclimatization and accessibility to a town where we can rendezvous? (She'll be flying into Denver from the east coast and is generally very fit.) Thanks in advance!

    • @MikeWindsor
      @MikeWindsor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey great question Chris. Everything in the San Juans is amazing, but it’d be harder to get there from Denver. Maybe your best bet would be having her join you for the Collegiate West segment. I think you can get a bus from Denver to Leadville. Then hike the collegiate west (a stunning section!). It is high but I wouldn’t worry too much about altitude if you’re both fit, just take it easy the first day. Then catch the Bustang from Salida back to Denver.

    • @chrishennemeyer7276
      @chrishennemeyer7276 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MikeWindsor Many thanks, Mike. That's exactly the idea I had, mainly because of the great scenery in the Collegiates West. The question is whether that Denver-Leadville bus is a real option. I did a bit a inconclusive research but need to look into it some more.

    • @MikeWindsor
      @MikeWindsor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, gosh I don’t really remember well enough to give you a good breakdown. But I definitely did it on the cheap. The biggest expense is food. I try and avoid spending too much time in towns because it gets real easy to drop some $ when you do. Otherwise your expenses are pretty limited. Oh and of course airfare out there was prob the second biggest expense next to food.

    How much time was saved hitch hiking? i want to do this but 28 days doesnt seem like very long to do it and still play lol at the same time im not sure i could afford to take a whole month off work. i shoulda jumped on it early last summer in the middle of the pandemic and took the voluntary lay off. Instead i worked thru the whole thing lol also did you go solo or with a group? (I did see you with people occasionally) Im thinking solo might not be the best idea when I go but im not sure i know anyone that dedicated. First step is getting a month and a half a head on all bills lol Two weeks extra just in case lol

    • @MikeWindsor
      @MikeWindsor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hope you can get out there! Went solo. Hitchhiking is almost a necessity as many of the towns are not directly on trail. I suppose you could figure out a resupply plan that didn’t involve hitching, or arrange shuttles ahead of time but hitching is much easier (and fun :)

    Nice video of great scenery! There is a reason nothing grows up there. The elements are harsh in July. Imagine November or February. I would have liked a little more info on location by day (i.e. where you found to camp). The education videos of pack weight and gear are usually over the top; especially when they are all closely the same. But info about location and timeline is always helpful.

    Nice video, but I had to mute the sound. Mother nature's soundtrack is much better than background music.

    I walked the same 500 miles in July and I didn't see a single moose xD

    Sure like to talk to someone who has hiked the entire CT or PCT or CDT or even AT in something like Salomon boots or Danner Mtn Lights.

    Mike, this is a real quality video, congratulations! I like that you were not continually sticking your face in the camera (not that you have a bad face :) - and talking too much into the camera. I would much rather see the spectacular scenery and the views along the trail with your soundtrack - and you did a great job providing this to your viewers. Well done! I biked the trail last year and had a drone to capture the amazing scenery from above.

      Thanks Dave! Nice! Yeah the drone footage adds a lot, I’ve been thinking about getting one - the Mavic Mini would be reasonably sized for a thru hike.
