Northbound on the Pacific Crest Trail | PCT Short Film

- A northbound thru hike attempt on the Pacific Crest Trail. This is my first thru hike and I wanted to capture it in a short film I can go back and watch years from now and relive all the awesome memories. The big open views and epic ridge walks were the coolest thing about the PCT, and I wanted to capture as much of the scenery as possible.
The Pacific Crest Trail is a 2,650 mile trail from Mexico to Canada thru California, Oregon, and Washington. It starts in the deserts of southern California, passes through the Sierra Nevada mountain range, and ends in the northern Cascades.
And yes, I'm aware there's a blurry dirt mark on many of the shots in this video. There was some debris on the sensor of my camera and I didn't realize until it was too late.

You made it so dramatic like you are climbing Everest! The music, the photography, the narration are amazing! Congratulations on completing the PCT in one of the toughest years and congratulations on the absolutely gorgeous documentary!
I just had to watch this beautiful thing all over again. I love the humor, narration, and fond exposure of all the hikers. Although you were ticking off the miles, your video never seems to be just about that. You paused for the soaring birds, magnificent vistas and comic relief among friends. I loved the slowed motion which somehow emphasized the weight and danger of high country snow travel perfectly paired with expressive music. You never make it look easy and you carry your audience through your uncertainty as you make the perfect calls for your own hike. After following along with your phone videos, I knew that if given the time, you would make an epic account of your journey. Yes, that is what you did.

This is by far the best documentary for capturing the feeling and experience of being on the PCT. I keep coming back to it. Everything else is garbage. You have a great gift for capturing a feeling on film.
By far the best PCT thru-hike video I've seen. I was expecting the normal millennial type film full of "super easy" and "super cool" every two minutes. Instead, I got one of the best pieces of film I've seen in years.

Congrats on capturing the "thru-hike" sensation in this astonishing film. As a Class of 2019 thru hiker myself I kept on pushing away my tears on seeing this footage. You were successful in making the viewer part of your tramily and I thank you for that. We actually met "Sunkist" in Stevens Pass so you must have been right behind us :). What an adventure, I've done some hard things and at 73 am still alive to tell the tales, but your walk steps well over the mark. Its been 3 long years for me. I feel it still when I watch these videos. It gets better, though it is hard to get back into the rat race once you realize processions, and consumption only weigh you down.
Calvin, you have an amazing film. You show not only the beauty of hiking, you also show the real struggles without drama. I have hiked in Europe and in some States in USA. I haven been planning and preparing to do the PCT for the last 6 months.

Amazing! Brings me right back finished on September 12th, hit the Sierras in early June this year. The Sierras were a magical place this year, you don't really ever get to experience them like that often

PCT 19 🤙🏻 What a year. Your Sierra experience is next level. I would of been a few weeks behind you. I didn't finish until October, so I was hit with the early washington snow. I want to go back and do washington again without the rain!

Excellent video Calvin. My name is Mike and I live in Washington State and yes you are right Washington is unreal. Love it here and love watching the new videos created of all the hikers that attempt the PCT. I am a trail correspondent for Washington Trail Association (wta.org) and I have hiked sections of the PCT in all three states but never tried the whole thing. We put in thousands of volunteer hours a year maintaining trails especially the PCT. Since I am now reaching 60 years old I doubt that I will ever be able to enjoy hiking the whole thing but I understand the feeling everyone gets when trying this hike. All I think about is hiking and every weekend I am up in the mountains of Washington hiking. Thanks for putting together this fantastic video!!. Take Care Mike
