I agree on ditching the stock switches instead of lubing them. Lubing makes a difference, but it doesn't really feel like a massive upgrade from stock. An added bonus is that you can keep the stock switches to make pseudo Creamerons.
same here, outmen is quite trash honestly, spent all day trying to lube them but they just scratchy regardless of what you do but can't complain about a keyboard at this price, at least you get a base and pcb
One type of underrated case dampening I use in all of my builds is neoprene foam. Seems to add a sightly different sound compared to other types of dampening. Worth a try for anyone!
Much appreciated. This was the first mechanical keyboard I bought and now have three. I decided to give this one a go in terms of modding as, in part, the case has a lot of space to work with. I'll introduce the hobby to a friend of mine and if her son gets into it, have some recommendations for him. Heck, I may even send him my K530 Pro so he can start with that with little to no cost. If not, I'll keep working on it and may even opt to upgrade the stabilizers. I was lucky enough to be turned onto Akko switches about a week or so ago so have them for my Keychron V1 barebones w/ knob kit.
When I first fell into the rabbit hole, I thought PE foam mod is putting PE foam under the PCB. Really like the outcome of it as well. I really enjoy modding prebuilts - bringing out their potentials is what makes this hobby fun for me.
kind of impressed to report i came here to figure out how to add some dampening to the board i just bought and it actually came with foam in the bottom and between the plate and pcb stock!!! one more thing is newbies don't need to worry about hehe
I use the non-pro version. KTT rose or KTT strawberries are super budget friendly ($0.24 to $0.40 per switch) and sound AMAZING. (KTT rose need to be lubed but they are cheaper and clackier (my preference over thock) - will need to clip the plastic pins Foam mod between plate and PCB Tape moded Cut off middle standoffs and ALL thin plastic supports (in the case) 2 layer penny mod secured with double-sided tape and painter's tape on top (my FAVORITE mod) Basic pudding doubleshots that I need to replace clipped and holee moded stabs sounds like night and day compared to stock
I followed along with this video and instead I used banana split switches with electrical tape and sponge filter foam, my K530 pro came with the foam already between the PCB and the plate so i didn't have to add anything there. Now my keyboard sounds so creamy! i love how it feels to type on as well as how it sounds :]
Personally, I would have use a bit of felt or similar semi-dense material in the bottom of the case. Plastic Cases like this are too thin and don't give you a good sound profile, so its probably for the best to attempt to leech some of that resonance. Neoprene/poron foam is better for deeper cases.
I never though i would have to say this in a youtube comment section😭, but flamingos aren’t pink or purple at all; they get their color from the proteins in (mainly) shrimp they eat
Hey, awesome review! Got a qustion. Do you think it would be possible to use the wire/wireless switch as a KVM switch between two computers, so that I could connect this keyboard on two devices and switch between them with the switch?
You did all the work of changing the switches, disassembling and lubricating all the stabilizers, you put foam on it, but..... why didn't you change the battery for one that allows you a longer duration with wireless use?
One thing I'm curious about case modding is that, is it ok to put foam or material contacted with the battery? I saw some people mentioned before that there are chances it could cause smoke or fire if no space are left in between the foam and battery. But I myself doubt that it could happen, at least at very low chance to occur. Any thoughts on this?
@@ConsumerTechReview Thanks for your reply. I'll probably cut off part of foam for boards with battery to avoid that. Just hope it won't cause inconsistencies in sound.
I just modded my K530 with foam under the pcb and between the metal key sockets and the pcb .. the difference was very little but the effort wasn't worth it tbh ... just saying so if you were planning to do modifyings like these you should think again :v
Question for the medical tape placement at 06:32: In your RK84 modding video, you put these tapes on the PCB. but in this video, you are putting them in a different position. Which method is better? TIA!
i’m not too sure if you’re talking about the same thing. I haven’t watched his rk84 video but i’m assuming the “tape” he placed on his pcb was either a PE foam mod (on pcb between plate and switches) or a tempest tape mod (on the backside of the pcb). Both of these mods serve to improve the acoustics of the board and both have varying results and levels of difficulty. The tape hes done in 6:32 was on the plate of the board, which serves to reduce stabilisers wobble to reduce rattling noises. They are 3 completely different mods, and serve different purposes. In my opinion PE foam mod provides the greatest improvement in sound, while tempest mod is really easy and quick and helps bring out the sound better. The tape mod he’s done here on the plate is just to help reduce stabilisers wobble and doesn’t have much effect on the overall sound of the board( this is usually done in prebuilt boards like the redragon in this video as the stabilisers tend to be loose in the plate). As such, u probably wont need this mod if youre building a custom keyboard from scratch, but it’s useful for prebuilts.
I’ve just got this keyboard. Do them key caps you recommend show through the rgb or are the letters opaque? I personally like the rgb setting that only flashes when each key is pressed. So having rgb compatible key caps is a must.
before the video I was going to buy the rk61 but this keyboard is miles better. the stabilizers are certianly liveable and the outemu blue switches I got it with feel nice even for playing games. Sorry I just hate linears for some reason
every now nd then I find my keyboard with only the wasd & lower right ctrl key lit blue (the other keys lights are off). what does this mean? I never programed it for individual keys.
I have problem with my k530 i modded it witn foam and tape and everything was good but when i put stabilizers and switches i have problem that stabilizers ale lower then switch and when i want to put spacebar, enter or backspace keycap its stuck BC stabilizers are lower
Hey dude, could you let me know if epomaker flamingo switches will fit in k530(not pro) as I'm thinking to buy and upgrade and can't find anything about it

Most keyboards should be pretty similar to mod. ie. any budget 65%/60% keebs should be pretty similar to mod. Most things should work like tape/tempest mod, pe foam, lubing and case foam.
You can also get a smaller keyboard just to practice your mods on while you use one that' s more your preferred size. I'm using the K530 pro as my test board.
I just bought a k530 pro in december and suprisingly Redragon has made a few modifications to this model 1. An eva foam or neoprene foam was added on the case plate 2. Dampener added in between pcb and plate 3. Smaller pcb connector on the back of the board and its glued but you can still disconnect the wire by removing the glue I don't know if i should have done that but i added pe foam over the eva foam And also i did 1 layer of painters tape on the back of pcb But i still get a bad loud ping noise whenever i type Can someone help me ? What can i do to fix this annoying noise ?

If it's hot swappable try using/changing your switch puller. You might hear soft clicks as the ends get beneath the top housing. Hope your board doesn't have soldered on switches.
Just wondering if someone could come in clutch, got this keyboard it was working fine until I downloaded the software then just didn’t light up rgb or keys don’t work when I click them but it still shows that it charges when I put the cable in. I just shoved my PE foam on the bottom instead of in between the plate and pcb on my 3068. I really like how it turned out.

Nail clippers do the job for the stabilisers extra plastic!
FYI only AKKO CS switches work in Outemu sockets and it appears they are no longer manufacturing them.
Thanks for another great guide 👍
