I just got this same dvd player and I'm pretty sure the motor that controls the DVD drive belt is dead. I took the entire drive apart and I can tell drive belt motor is not rotating while powered.
I just verified it isn't the motor. To test the part out I de-soldered the motor wires and ran the motor on a 9v battery. So its some issue with the DVD board like a dead capacitor there is a slim chance its some issue with the flex cable. Also the drive does play DVDs, the only issue is that the disc tray wont eject.
He mentioned early on there was no lubrication, I'm guessing he lubricated it to loosen the mechanism and allow it to work. Some silicon lubricant from Walmart should do the trick, automotive aisle, a tiny dab should do the trick.
FYI: I have this same model and it had the same problem with the on/off button. I took the button out and coated the back of it with white silicone sealer then let it sit for a couple days then I put it back together and BOOM......problem fixed. It now turns on and off every time I press the button!

Me too... let us know what kind of lube you use to get that tray to open. I picked one up for free ... and want to resell it.. however the tray won’t open... I don’t believe there is a disc in it.. but i haven’t opened it up yet. Thanks
@@panicfilms cool... The player I have ... it’s exactly like the video... when there’s a disc in it... it works flawlessly...take the disc out... doesn’t open. Really weird. Hopefully the creator of this video will chime in. Everything else on the unit works great. Thanks guys

I have a slightly newer model, a *SLV-D370P* that I picked up after someone else threw it out. The VCR still plays despite missing a door, even the DVD player works somewhat. I'm thinking it might need a Re-POT because the laser is weakening. I'm also interested in finding a way to unlock the region coding because I have way too many Japanese R2 DVD's.
If Left side (rewind side) is full, and right side (fast forward side) is out of tape, you cant rewind it. When starting to rewind tape it comes out clear leader
Videophile Freak - do you know whether or not the dvd player from the SLV-D350P unit will also work as a replacement for a defective player in the SLV-D300P unit?
Shit I just refunded a guy I think he stole the piece that pushed the tape down off of it that's fucked up or swapped the entire internals from mine into his.

I saw in another video last night that they used Light machine oil and it went inside the motor from the top to lube the ball bearings

I have this model and it has no power, I replaced the fuse, and none of the caps or resistors on the board look damaged, any ideas?

Did U open it up and do a visual inspection of the capacitors maybe u get lucky see one that is bubbled up or leaking.
