CorRekt look at Richie Kotzen. He was stuck in a rut and couldn't write anything he liked so he got rid of his guitar pick and now uses his fingers all the time.
Limitations force you to focus on making the most out of something simple. Usually when there are too many different possibilities, you don't know where to start and you most likely end up repeating the same old cliches. Limiting those possibilities forces you to get out of your comfort zone and try some new things. This is why I like composition challenges. They force you to do something new - something that you might not have thought of before. I guess they also show your true capabilities as a composer. A good composer can create something interesting out of really simple things. If the challenge is to compose a song only using one note, that forces you to focus on the other things that makes music interesting and ignore the most obvious one - the note choice. And challenges like that makes it really clear that there are a lot of other important things in music besides the note choice. But generally speaking, I think it's easier to start with something specific than to "just write music" without having a clear idea of what you are after. When you need to write a song for the 2 string bass, you start exploring things that work for that specific instrument and things that make that instrument unique. Writing something for guitar requires a different approach than writing something for two string bass. When you have a specific goal, it also makes it easier to achieve that goal. And the more specific that goal is, the easier it is to achieve it (because you have a better idea of what you need to do to achieve it). My latest composition was a fanfare that I composed for a composition contest. The rules were that it needs to be a fanfare that lasts 15-25 seconds. These limitations forced me to write something that gets straight to the point, but still progresses during those 25 seconds. Since it was such a short piece, the main point was not to introduce too much different material, and I actually based the whole piece on a short motif that I transposed to fit different harmonies. Another important thing was rhythmic development - it got more and more rhythmically complex as it progressed. So basically the challenge was to make most out of a short motif in a short time, and that's what I learned from it. With no limitations I would never have come up with anything like it.
Morphine is my favorite band. I’m also a bassist I never tried a sandman set up personally I haven’t the talent sandman has to use a slide it just grits the strings :( I just appreciate marks legacy and make my own music my own style. But I appreciate people working with different set Ups.
try plucking harmonics close to the bridge when you fret closer to the nut. and emphasize the bridge pickup when playing a lot of harmonics. I think you will love the sound.

I think the song could benefit from a little less plectrum sound, maybe fingernails might dull it slightly, and a very minimal bongo/ hand drum riff in another room. Rob how do you fix a warped neck, I have 2 guitars that I've had since I started playing and both are horribly warped to the point where they sound awful please help!
x Freeworld is there massive fret buzz? Because it could be as simple as adjusting the truss rod until the neck levels out to where there is no more fret buzz.
yeah there is massive fret buzz and I'm thinking there's an issue with the nut cause I get this weird vibrating noise whenever a note rings out too long I don't know if that's related to the neck being warped or not
x Freeworld that would very likely be something adjusting the truss rod will fix. Try looking at the string from the side with the guitar on a flat surface and pluck the low e string. You should be able to see where the string is hitting a fret.
x Freeworld it is a very simple thing to do yourself if you haven't. Look up some videos on TH-cam on it. Otherwise a guitar store can fix it up for 20 bucks or so.
x Freeworld for very extreme warping you will have to take the neck off, straighten the truss rod, then use wood to make a jig that clamps down on any lumps, forcing the neck to be straight again

I had a four string Sandberg jazz style bass from 1992. Selling it was one of my biggest regrets.
