- A street gang known as The Warriors Movie 1979 must fight their way from the Bronx to their home turf on Coney Island when they are falsely accused of assassinating a respected gang leader.
Cyrus, the leader of the most powerful gang in New York City, the Gramercy Riffs, calls a midnight summit for all the area gangs, with all asked to send nine unarmed representatives for the conclave. A gang called The Warriors are blamed for killing Cyrus as he gives his speech. They now have to cross the territory of rivals in order to get to their own 'hood. The Warriors slowly cross the dangerous Bronx and Manhattan territories, narrowly escaping police and other gangs every step of the way.

I love how every gang has a costume.
I think that was typical of 70's gangs especially when punk rockers would spray paint their hair, others assumed roles I guess.
Totally...it makes it so much more... cinematic
Only believable gang is the turnball ac's skin heads lol
@@GregFranco They're the greatest representation of a typical gang, quite rowdy in style and common demeanor.
I'm an 80's kid of California, gangs had a style, but not costume type of uniforms by the time.
1979 disco era. In ny. .Maybe gangs like hi hats existed
the Fury's strategy of sticking to baseball rules (1 batter at a time) needs revising😅😅😅
Why? It trained an entire army of gunmen and foot soldiers exactly how to go after, and not kill, John Wick. LOL

45 years ago I saw this film in the theater with about 12 of my closest friends. I was 15 years old. And, when the movie was over, we were all still excited and amped up, so we all went to the subway station and we all hopped the turnstiles like the guys in the movie did. A dear friend of mine was in this film. My buddy, Apache Ramos, played one of the "Orphans." In fact, Apache made me an honorary Orphan after he became Warlord of the gang. Man, 45 years ago and this movie still stands as one of the best movies of all time!
You know Apache? I’m friends with him on Facebook. He’s a great guy.
@CBiggs-vz9be That's nice! Yes, he's my friend. I've known him for many years. He's a good man.
He was the Hispanic Orphan who said "We're gonna RAIN on you Warriors!!" wasn't he? I spoke with him on the comments sections for some videos of the video game. Like CBiggs said, he is indeed a cool dude.
@@WonkyTonkBotty That’s him, the one with the epic afro.
totally agreed...for a movie that only cost 1 - 2 million dollars at the time it made over 22 mil world wide.
I was 18yrs old in in the bronx, living with my brother and mother.... Mom worked 2 jobs, my brother worked and i worked part time...The gangs in those days wore their colours proudly and you knew which turf you were in and how to behave...sometimes there was a toll and you paid it to the locals......
love how the toughest warrior in the group hangs back to protect the weakest member of his gang....urging him on to keep running....but when the time comes, is ready for combat ...all or nothing!! such good writing and camera work...
it was tough back then, no social funding for moms like mine or us kids, we had to be tough...it paid off now that im in my 60's, retired and successful.
I lived 6 blocks away from where this was filmed so 9 out of 10 times if I was alone coming out of the 72nd Street station would put on my headphones to this
Then sprint down to Central Park on 71st pretending i was a Warrior.
Never let yourself get too old to have fun
Brooo thats sounds so fun lol
Hell yeah I would do the same too!

@@Rest65432me and friends in high school were all baseball players. Dressed As these guys for Halloween in 2016 during the clown pandemic and went around chasing some clowns that were around scaring kids. We actually had a cop car come around one of the blocks and the officers got out to take a picture with us. They thought it was too awesome.
Thats literally the correct way of running

@@Rest65432at you would go out like a warrior ... it will be worth it
The running, the music, the intensity, I’ve just never seen a chase scene as GOOD as the warriors, it’s insane no matter how many times I’ve watched, this is yet to BE topped it seems. Truly a masterpiece that comes only once in a lifetime, grateful I grew up with this because of my father.
It's really depressing that you don't see that kind of style in movies anymore.
All through high school my dad and I would watch movies at night after my mom went to bed. We'd watch anything: high-brow dramas, horror schlock, sci-fi both good and bad, and pretty much everything Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Seagal or Van Damme made from 1985 to 1997. The ones I remember best, though, were the ones my dad had seen years earlier and couldn't wait to share with me. "The Thing," "Aliens," "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," "Deliverance." Director Walter Hill clocked in heavy on movie nights. Dad and I watched "Hard Times," "48 Hrs," "Crossroads," "Red Heat" (also a Schwarzenegger), "Another 48 Hours," "The Long Riders," and of course, "The Warriors," the best of the bunch.
@palmerlp your dad knew his movies❤
@@palmerlp Do you know _Southern Comfort_ ? That's another classic I stumbled on one night as a kid.

One of the greatest movies ever made. Should have won multiple Oscars in my opinion. This movie hits hard even 45 years later. A true masterpiece.
There’s a tv series’s of this bout hiw warriors became thank me later
The fact that the Baseball Furies operated without any dialogue is what made them the standout gang in this film. If you’re seeing them in uniformed numbers with their face paint and bats in hand, you already know what time it is.
The Gang from the bathroom fight didn’t have any dialogue either
@@CaptainKidd11 True but the build up scene between The Punks and The Warriors allude to non verbal communication. The scene where two of the members link up with the roller skater, shows eye contact among the three and the tallest looks like he might have been muttering something.
The lack of dialogue was likely for the better pacing towards the end of the film as the bulk of the dialogue was taken up by the other gangs and it might have run on for too long had we also got dialogue from The Baseball Furies and The Punks. It did use to make me wonder if the backstory behind The Baseball Furies was that they might have been mutes.
In The Warriors the videogame the high hats which were mimes had dialogue unlike the mute baseball furries
Main weapons are baseball bats. Cleats and shin guards as part of the gang uniform. Stomping attack would be devastating. And from a law enforcement standpoint...all wear heavy and varied war paint so an exact I.D, from a vic would be tedious at best.
Warriors are my boys...but you're only as good as your enemies are.
This is my favorite scene from the film. The Baseball Furies are AMAZING. And the music just makes this scene even better
My favorite, too. 👍👍
I also love their video game, growing up with it in high school was REALLY fun at that time for me!
They did look AMAZING but, good LOrd they fought like li'l school girls. Baseball Fuzzies more like it. Just watched this movie, again the other day. One of my all time favorites.

😂😂😂😂
that was actually the idea. the director has said it :)
Better than when they met the Phantom lol.
Was there some kind of gentleman's code that prevented all of the baseball guys from jumping in at once?
They were afraid Ajax would, "...shove that bat up your --- , and turn into popsicle."
Was just thinking that
This is during a time where gangs actually respected the hierarchy systems they had in place and didn't have dumb little numbnuts going around trying to "prove" themselves.
I mean, all these gangs went to a meet up Unarmed because they were asked to. Cept for the Rogues. The rogues were a good example of wannabes running gangs.
But yeah, gangs of this day and age had respect for one another and each other's positions and ranks within the gang. Any disagreements and stuff within the gang was handled within the gang. They also respected each other's turf and didn't aimlessly step on another gangs turf just to start something. Rival gang leaders could actually meet up and discuss this sorta stuff diplomatically.
But nowadays, people shoot first, then ask questions
MLB rules, 1 batter per play😅
It was the 70’s and their tribe was more akin the Ancient Celts individuality than the modern romans with a mob pack attack... lol
Warriors! what a freaking good movie!
This movie is 50% fighting and 50% running, it's incredible.
So simple but so effective
it's the truth...when a fight goes down running away is always an option if getting beaten but also running to avoid the fight...running ain't cowardly it's self preservation u live to fight another day...u could run away on one day then corner your enemy with a weapon in your hand next day and have him running away...running and fighting the way of the human animal for hundreds of thousands of years just as other animals run and fight and kill or be killed (but in this case beat or get beaten)
It's based on an old story out of Greek Mythology - called 'Anabasis' by Xenophon. Instead of a gang running through the Boroughs of NY City, it was an ancient army trying to fight its way back home.
Ajax, wiping out " whimps" since the 70's ( God luv ya James Remar).👍
Ajax was a total beast!

One of the most intense and terrifying scenes in cinema!! Still gives me the chills.

I was 9 years old when this movie came out, and I wanted to see it so bad,and it was the only R rated movie that my Momma wouldn't let me see, but I liked the music from it. When I was older,in my teens, and it was on cable, I finally got to see it. Seeing just the short videos like this reminds me of when I was young and there was just certain turf that you didn't caught on unless you were dating someone who lived there, and the running scenes bring back memories too.
This was THE film to watch when I was a kid, Walter Hill was a terrific director, and around this time in a rich vein of form, Southern Comfort, and after the Warriors 48Hrs,.
So true the guy had such a powerful style.

For guys that fight with baseball bats, the Furies aren’t very good at fighting with baseball bats.

Say what you want about the Baseball Furies, they definitely kept up on their cardio.
Back when Netflix was just starting out and still sent DVDs instead of streaming, my wife and I picked this movie out because it looked kind of like a cheesy action or martial arts film. Once it started, though, we were hooked by the story, the action, the characters, and the scenery. Only later did we learn that The Warriors had a major cult following and was considered one of the best period pieces of its time. In still has a special place in our hearts, a great movie with a profound influence on the genre that we just happened to stumble on.

Lot of great scenes in The Warriors. This was the best of them.
Just my Theory, Swan intentionally think they should run a little to exhaust The Furies, he knows they can't match furies Number, Strength, Stamina and Endurance, he knows Ajax strength and capabilities when he's on rage or in a mood for a fight, Snow efficiency in fight. When they Ajax finally confront the Furies you can see The Furies are exhausted and breathing heavily while Ajax, just chillin to raging and ready to shove that bat into his and turn him into popsicle
Now i know why Cleon chooses Swan over Ajax for the role of Warchief after him (I'm sorry can't edit my last comment)
You have never been in this kinda world u do what u can then u fight. This is just a movie not real life
@@R-ih8wvNo shite that's why the comment is about the movie.
"Dear Warriors, you rock. Especially when those guys were in the park. - thestickmanproject2527 - P.S. Do you know Mad Max?"
Yeah, and Ajax, for all that he gets frustrated at not being in charge, knows how that goes. When Cowboy started to run out of gas, Ajax checked to make sure then went for it, knowing that the pursuing Furies were likely not at full steam either. The man might have had a one-track brain, but he was the biggest physical threat in the roster.
I still remember seeing this in the theater back in the day...
Thanks DAD!

The only cringe part are the shots where you see members of the Furies waiting in the background while the others fight; like they are waiting their turn. Hahaha😅😅😅😅😅
Fun fact...Walter Hill, the director wanted a gang that incorporated two things he loved, baseball and the band, Kiss. Thus we have the Baseball Furies.
They have terrible team work but thankfully they were tougher in the game.

“Swan… Ajax…Snow…Cleon and chocheez were the best fighters the rest held there ground…this movie was groundbreaking during that time a GOOD movie 🎥 without cgi but just straight up acting and the “Grammacy Riffs” were Feared they were the Tip Top of street justice the ending I always love and the song “ In the City” was perfect when they all walked a faded into obscurity NICE!!” 👍😁💪🏼👊🏻✊🏼
I didn't get the impression they "faded into obscurity", but had proved themselves as a powerful gang only second to the Riffs in NYC.
The song is on my workout playlist. Sometimes I play it at the end when l push hard to finish my run. Sometimes, I'll even play the video and run "with them". Lungs burn a little, legs are little tired, and it kinda sucks but I can either keep moving or risk an ass beating if I stop. So I better keep running. Great scene
Raw and low budget films like this are golden and need to be made again. Great stories and great thought provokers.
• THE BASEBALL FURIES, or simply THE FURIES, are a fictional New York City gang in 1979. They were a gang of real major leaguers who brings their A-game to every rumble. Packing baseball bats and plenty of muscle, the Furies' rep stretches through every network in NYC.

Such a great movie. I remember watching it on the mess decks of the ship I was on. I was 18 years old and I can honestly say that when the movie was over I wanted to get a few of my shipmates and go out onto the streets of Honolulu and kick some ass. Back then the locals hated us guys in the service. So 5 or 6 of them would get together and find a couple of service guys waiting for the bus and beat the hell out of them. I had a couple of my friends wind up in the hospital. After watching this I remember being so fired up all I could think of was going and tearing up the streets getting revenge revenge for my comrades. Unfortunately I couldn't find anyone to help me. My favorite scene is when Ajax tells that feller, "Imma shove that bat up yet ass and turn you in to a popsicle!" It just don't get any better then that!!!
the baseball FURRIES. I dont even want to imagine what they wanted to use that bat for
the best action scene in the entire galaxy.
The lead baseball Fury with the yellow and black face seems to have some serious athletic ability, just by the way he runs. That said, to sustain that pace and distance the Warriors and Furies would need to be as fit as.
One of the all-time great films.
There will always be something terrifying about the Furies standing about in silence before they unleash the chase, even if the Warriors made quick work of them.
Funny the Furies didn't cover the station exits properly and allowed the Warriors to run. But maybe that was their game, allow the opposition to run and then run them down.
First time ever watch this movie, loved it! Been my favorite ever since was a kid!
3:10 I remember watching this scene many years ago wondering "why are those spotlights up in the trees?"

Wow of times changed. I was in a West Cleveland Street gang when it came out we traveled to the east side in our colors to watch this movie in the movie theater just to make a statement.
