That is so wild. It looks exactly like one of them I used to own. I had a 79 xs 1100 that looked exactly like that. I've owned two 1981 xs 1100 specials and currently I own a 1980 xs 1100 that I'm doing a complete frame off restoration and adding the factory saddlebags from the excess 1100g. Man I enjoy all of these videos because I know every single one of these motorcycles that you guys talk about. I know every single nut bolt screw and bracket of every one of these bikes and it thrills me to know that there are other people out there that get just as excited about Japanese muscle as I do

Theres a david lee roth ( like 78 or 79) picture in one of those yamahas black and gold
I believe those came out in 1980 with the gold trim.
@@goaheadmakeourdayscooterpe9644 you’d be correct I think. I graduated high school in 80.. it may have been late 79 when he was riding it. My friends dad also happened to own the local Yamaha dealership back then.
I bought one from the original owner and he stored it for 20 years indoors it looked almost brand new I finally rode it and its so nice
I inherited my grandpa's '79 xs1100 special. Haven't seen her run in almost 20 years, but I've been doing research on getting her going again!
This was my first bike I was 17 in 2001 boy was it heavy
First bike I ever worked on where I noticed it had two petcocks on the gas tank. That is such a thirsty big 4 cylinder that it can't suck fuel through one petcock fast enough that it needed two. Those are awesome bikes. I just wish I'd been able to run across a nice midnight maximum version. The black and gold of the midnight Maxim was just the Pinnacle of coolness

I have the exact same bike with 3K original miles. Original has 4 into two exhaust. Love the high polish on this bike.
Solid ride, I enjoyed mine. Bought it new.
My first bike was a 1976 Honda CB360T. Then I scored a 1979 Yamaha XS1100 Special in red. Rode the heck out of that thing! It is amazingly fast for what it is! Would piss off the big thumper bikes when they couldn't keep up!! I now have gorgeous 1998 Valkyrie Tourer in black.
Nice. Mines a macho maroon 1978. Got my gloves wet in the rain and the stator arched the clutch cable so I found out to hook up an extra ground to the frame from the motor.
Literally picking up the same model as a project for 600. Honestly can't wait to see it turn out considering I'm still extremely new to bikes lol

Figured it out, it has one. Try the stabil in the differential and engine oil.
Bought a black one new in 79 for 4200.00. I still have original fold out brochure of the Specials that has the 400,650,750 and the 1100 as the centerfold. Put a Blake turbo back then on it and played at drags with a best 10.43. While the driveshaft was indestructible it was a bear to launch straight because of the torque reaction making it want to kick out to side.Good times though. PS rememberd it even had a emergency kick start underneath at centerstand that could be placed on shaft sticking out of trans.

There's a part in between the pipes on the motor!!! Can you tell me what that is??? Has 2-allen head bolts and an adjustment on the side...

My dad bought me one brand new in 1979...I was in the 7th grade LOL Had been riding since I was 4 yrs old. Mine was identical to this one and had a RC header. Ive rode faster. But I had more fun on that bike than any of the numerous I had prior or since. Having the only bike in high school the ladies lined up for a ride....and they liked riding the bike too...
Your dad bought you an XS1100 in the 7th grade? You must've been a really advanced rider! These bikes ain't no joke. They are a handful for an adult rider with some time under his or her belt.
@@chicoshovelhead I received my first bike at age 4. By seventh grade I had 9yrs experience. 5 of which was dirt bike racing in my age bracket all over the southeast. In third grade I graduated up into 250cc bikes. And so on

When that scarf gets sucked into the rear wheel and sucks you off the seat....it'll hurt.
If I recall that was yamaha's first 1000+ cc road bike. To compete with GS,CBX/CB, KZ's I remember an article in Cycle or Cycle World magazine in late '78 it had a good review,also it was I think either the first or second bike to break into the 11's in the quarter. Which was amazing at the time. Even today that bike would turn heads. Great job on the resto!! God bless you all!!
