I can proudly say I own one of these. But mine was bored out to the max and it’s insane to ride. No joke you can sit on the gas tank and it will still ride wheelies. Long live Yamaha power :)
A mans motorcycle there. Time machine....Ken you've done it again.I'd love to come up from Tampa to see first hand what an amazing preservation you've done there,at the compound & w/the time machines you've reserve dated is important to a lot of people.
I have one in the barn. I haven't ridden it since 1997. Looking forward to getting it going again. Pure power, well balanced. Could pick up the front end in most gears if you opened it up. Pleasure to ride, never noticed the muffler sound, it was always behind me :) Thanks for rekindling the desire to fly!
So jealous it’ll be a dream to have one 2 stroke I go to work watching a video of you on the sexy red rocket(CR125R) 🔥🔥🔥 and come home to see this vid of this beast 😍 if I ever hit the lotto I’m buying me and my pops one ,he’s getting older but he use to shred when I was a kid . we never got to ride together ,goal of mine for sure .
my friend has one, i am fixing to ride it. His back is bad and can not ever ride it. so i am fixing it.Same bike,mMX400b He had it since new. You ride the widest variety of bike's, Awesome Getting the engine ready to be rebuilt. w/80 over piston and jug. make video soon.
I had one in 84 or 85; it had SO MUCH POWER!!! I dont think I ever sat on the seat, as i was always standing and leaning up over the handlebars!; whenever I would let somebody who could RIDE a bike, they would beat everything!!! around!!! ; I couldn't handle that bike; it beat me up; I only had it for just one summer; I sold that abusive SOB, but WOW! The POWER!!
Yes.It is fast. Mine is all original including tires. I also have a DT400B. I have a spare nos MX400B cylinder and head I've been wanting to try out on it. Will definitely make it hairier on the street!
@Tim Allen yeah I have watched a documentary on him and how he got started and his career ...saw footage of him on a 500 something like this ....just was wondering where this bike fit in ....bob tough dude won a moto go on a 125 he didn't want to ride ....broke his leg and almost lost it water skiing in a river with a rivel mx er and good friend .....then ended up flying and racing vintage fighter planes .... just seems like a really good guy and I guess one would say fearless......those old big bores were heavy and temperamental and he wasn't a huge guy ....mad respect for him ...
I have an MX400B and I'm having the most difficult time looking for exhaust gaskets. Do I need them since it's like a slip on? The springs u have for the mid pipe seem too short and maybe something is supposed to be there?
There’s one for sale locally, needs full restoration but it’s complete not seized and with paperwork, 1k or offer, is it worth it? I’m able to do almost everything mechanical wise
If you guys ever get the chance, could you maybe explain the difference between the various Yamaha models? What I mean is, what's the difference between and MX, YZ, DT and IT?
@@KaplanCycles Sweet! I love the videos you guys do and really love the old Yamaha's you show. My first bike when I was 13 was a 79 DT175. I really miss it and eventually I'll get another one!
I just picked up a 75 MX400. Not nearly as nice as this, but still not bad. Seller though he had a 1979 IT400. But serial number tells me different (510 prefix).
The Monoshock that Yamaha used was designed by a Belgium Engineer, he was going to sell the design to Suzuki, but they did not want it, so Yamaha decided to go for it, and the rest is history..
last one i saw wasnt near as good as this . it wos at a auto jumble it had no tank or seat on it and rough told me it wos an old YZ i wasnt sure it wos. i saw this one of yours and now i know wot it wos
Had a dt 400 Mx I thought it would have more power I felt disappointed nothing wrong with the bike it just felt underpowered for me you’d think a 400 would have pulled the front up without slipping the clutch .
@@KaplanCycles .. ru serious? Sorry, but I live in a country where nobody would dream of having to be armed. We have gun laws, and have much more freedom than you. Freedom from gun violence for a start. Feel sorry for you guys.
ALL the criminals have guns here, Not A-day goes by in America where in unarmed citizen is shot to death by a criminal with an illegal gun. In fact 2 weeks ago a very close friend of mine was walking out of a store somebody following him out and robbed him at gunpoint with a gun ... I am not a criminal. i use to have one, i was only 16 years old, 1976 . the best bike i ever owned and ridden
Man, back when I actually knew how to work on bikes... Brings back memories. Thank you!
Bad ass dirtbike.Bought one of these brand new right out of high school in 75' and went motocross racing. Great memories , thanks.
Handcuffs, gun, and werewolf sideburns! Live it baby! Live it!
Love the sound . I raced a 74 Mx 250 in FL. Then moved up to 77 Yz 400D great video . That Mx 400 is a Beautiful bike .
Another stunner ! Just love seeing all these blast from the past ! U can’t even beat them ! Thanks u guys ! 🇺🇸
Thank you Kaplan for showcasing such kick ass Yamaha. Amazing bike with the sound and power I love of a 2 stroke. Great video and work you all do. !!!
Ken can really make that bike roll! So fun to watch.
It's a Webco head. Stock was a radial finned similar to DT400.
Vintage bike, drum brakes, I love it.
Drum brakes = terrifying if you need to stop.
Lots of 2 stroke pwr and iffy brakes is a perfect summary of the 70s 😅

Thank y’all for bringing back my memories of my old Dirtbike years and love you exercising your Second Amendment Wright love the side arm.
First year for the monoshock and a beautiful example of an iconic big bore!

Great bike bought one new $1450 ln 75 great enduro cross country bike
I don’t know if I actually ever seen a bike like that but it looks like it would rip someone’s arms off , that bike is in exquisite shape !!!!!
This bike is Fast 👍🏆🥇🏁
Those things were like Wile E Coyote lighting an Acme rocket..
45 years old and is in original moto condition. This bike is going to out live us.
Loved this bike so much I ended up getting one!..... 😁
Must of been a complete brute back in the 70s,still is now, stunning.

You gotta find one infamous TM Suzuki wobbly monster
70s KX 450 also cool.

Only once

So is MX Pre YZ?
No... They co-existed... YZs started in 1974...

Why did the mx and yz coexist or did they?
Incorrect cyl head...should have a radial fin head.
Webco?
@@KaplanCycles factory was radial.

I'll call it a pw400
