I wanted to share a little job update with you all! The tech recruiting cycle is arduously long and with a couple of travel stints in between, it's taken me a bit longer to make significant progress. I’m currently wrapping up some final round interviews and hope to have some good news to share soon 🤞 Wish me luck!

after a series of rejections, I learned to go into interviews without any expectations, being myself and just giving my best. It turned out pretty well.
I'm working on doing this too but it is so darn hard

I also don’t believe in dream jobs anymore and I’m glad to hear more people saying it. We put too much pressure on ourselves to find a dream job.
In the end of the day you tread your time at work for Money. We are a number for the Company. They will switch you out in a second. So its wotk thats it.

Myself I had probably one of the worst lifetime period seeking for a new job in the tech industry for the past year. after months, months and months of hard and dedicated time I finally signed a job I couldn’t even dream about and in such a good company!
For anyone in there desperately thinking this job searching phase will never end, don’t give up. it’s when you truly think that you’re maybe not intended to follow this path that the route starts to become clearer.
Congratulations! I started following this job search series and while job hunting myself a couple of months ago. It was a great support for me, and tomorrow is my first day at a new company. Thank you for sharing all the stress and frustration of this journey. Best wishes to all job seekers :)

I dunno how you guys survive such an exhausting recruitment process in tech 💀 In creative industries I've had to survive creative/art tests and interviews for jobs but nowhere near that amount of stages, it sounds excruciating. I'm so happy for you and hope it all works out! ❤
lmao I work in nursing and we don't even need interviews. Only 2 stages, 1 HR phone screen, then in person stage they just ask when can you start xDD

Hi Julia, I recently have been following your series. I was laid off, due to restructuring, after 21 years at a company, in mid-May. Fortunately, I have severance so I am taking some time to figure out my next plans. I haven't been in the job market for years, so it is definitely a scary time (being over 50 as well). Julia, you probably won’t read this comment, but I want to say I’m in the same situation as you, - exhausting, long lasting job search… and the only thing that kept my hopes up were your videos. And the fact that you literally just moved forward and I ALSO wasn’t rejected at my latest interview shows that we were really in it together hahaha! I’m so thankful for you sharing this journey, I wish you all the luck in the future!
Rooting for you, Julia! In my field, if they're checking references, the job is yours as long as the reference check comes back positive.
I am so sorry about your grandmother. I remember seeing her a few videos ago and that it was so great having her around as you go through all of this. I was really hoping she would be around for awhile. I was so shocked when I started this video and you stated that you had recently been traveling. I had to back up on your channel and figure out what I missed. Again, my condolences to you and your family. I can totally relate to being on edge about the results and being really stressed about the outcome especially in today's market. I found your channel when you first left Spotify. At that point, I had already unemployed in tech for five months. Your videos have brought me so much hope. Earlier this month, I landed a contract role in tech. I am hoping you will land one of these gigs with Company D or E. Don't underestimate yourself. You are an awesome candidate and I am wishing you the best! I cannot wait to see the outcome. Also, I can totally relate to being so close and being like "knock on wood...I don't want to jinx this". I thought I was the only one that did that.

Congratulations Julia!! I am job searching too and I can totally relate to being anxious. I was pacing and pacing until finally my cat came to check on me 😂 I check my e-mail every hour, hour and a half (better than every 5 mins). I read some manifestation advice that if we keep on checking, it's like we're saying "it's not gonna come." I also try and have fun. I went to one of my favorite local restaurants and got a drink during the day. I heard from more than one company while I was there!

Such good news, Julia! I am very happy hat your recruitement is going forward and is in the final rounds. I really root for you to get the job you want! I also work in tech, and I recently got a good offer, which was really unexpected, since I interviewed with the company out of curiosity and wasn't planning to change my job during summer. Hopefully you too soon feel the excitement and sense of accomplishment as I do now, about getting the position you wanted :)

Looks like GREAT NEWS is coming! I would move the candidate I wanted to hire to the HR phase for reference check, then I would approve an offer for that candidate ! I hired 3 people to my team over 2 1/2 years and all of them worked out great ! You will be a great addition to a Team !!

Congrats on the almost-offer! Would you like to do a video on the data science profession, different pathways etc.? If possible, for an audience of career switchers. Can you bifurcate data science into two pillars: (i) stats/maths/analysis and (ii) tools . Possibly also adding any insights you have into the data architecture-cousin pathway.
