@@thegreenmanofnorwich I think the Borg sustained damaged at first but once they adapted it was a slaughter. The knowledge of Starfleet tactics that Picard had probably allowed the Borg to adapt much sooner and more easily than they normally would have.
To defeat the Borg as Federation, you'll need a solid fleet comprised of endgame ships like the Akira/Defiant; also assuming you're researching weaponry and armory appropriately. Also note that this video was uploaded back in 2014, which is pre-nerfed Borg in STA3 - you'll need the Defiant mine-laying shenanigans to defeat the Cube if you don't have a full endgame fleet. Get Janeway (forced aggro Tank with Ablative armor ability and hologram fleet) to face-tank for you while the rest of your fleet pound the Cube. As for capital ships, aside from having all three Hero ships, your starter Ambassador Class actually has a decent area-of-effect shield hardening/recovery ability that can mitigate some damage early on. I also run a couple of Phoenix classes to help keep my fleet fixed up both in and out of combat, and fill the rest with Sovereign classes.
Problem is the fleet coming in all at one side. Star Trek: First Contact showed the best way to fight the Borg was swarm attacks on all sides of the Cube.
I see 3 problems that make it very hard to defeat the borg. 1 there ability to regenerate. unless you can do lots of damage to their ship faster than they can regenerate they will win and you will be defeated. 2. their ability to adapt. the longer you use the same weapons and tactics the more likely it will be that they will adapt and nullify your attack. 3. their ability to assimilate, which is what the borg are all about. if your shields are down even for a short time they can beam aboard drones and assimilate your ship and turn it against . unless you can overcome these 3 problems the borg will win and you will lose.
@@IronWarhorsesFun I don't count the tactical cube because Voyager wasn't trying to destroy it. They were simply trying to hold on for long enough to rescue Janeway, Tuvok, and B'Elanna. It was in fact the Borg Queen that ordered the destruction of that cube.
Took me a while before I recognized that interface - Sins of a Solar Empire. What a fun game it was. The idea of shield mitigation was amazing, at the time.
If there ever was a trick to beating the Borg in ST:AIII it's to NEVER lose a battle against a Borg Cube. The destruction of your fleet will only level it up, which will make it even harder to kill. A Level 10 Assimilation Cube is virtually unstoppable until late game.
MegaOgrady Just looked up the picture and just barely seeing it I recognized it from Star Trek Online. yeah its powerful and near impossible to destroy, but that's the Borg they build big and since they have a few hundred species that they have assimilated it makes sense that it would be so powerful.
Thats an early build of STA 3, in the current version that cube would have been defeated long time ago. They nerfed the Borg too much. The borg are still an easy play but can't just send in a single cube and wipe the map.
Then there is me, who maxed out shield and phasers, destroying a cube (admittedly, in home territory with defense sattelites) with a fleet of intrepids
+BuzzKill The Borg can assimilate ships, meaning that they can turn the player (or other AI team-mates) to fight for them until they are either destroyed or until the game ends. As seen in the video they are a BITCH to fight, its always better to have a friend or 4 when fighting the Borg since they can get out of hand QUICKLY. Especially on harder difficulties
It was close though. The cube 's hull was down to 3000 hull damage from 22000. A few more capital ships and you would have been victorious. I also didn't see a Titan. That could have tipped the scales too with that size of a fleet.
Commander X47 Then it didn't use the shield disruption ability on the cube. Feds can kill a cube in seconds with it provided they kill it before the debuff expires. I've destroyed level 10, fully upgraded cubes in < 5 seconds with it. The same applies to starbases. Borg durability comes from their shield mitigation, not the hull.
