I still play Star Trek Armada 2 and love that Tactical Fusion Cube, is just so overwhelming you almost feel bad for the enemy fleets.

The Tactical Fusion Cube was a fleet in and of itself, let alone if you sent support vessels for cover.

Ah the borg tactical cube, I did love how it looked when I first saw it, too bad the whole mood when seeing it was ruined when Voyager engaged the tactical cube in a pretty long fight and survived with what was much lower damage than what should have been
Yeah... I just assumed that the Queen was making the cube "pull its punches" out of curiosity as to why Voyager was attacking and not wanting to kill Seven. I doubt the Queen really considered Voyager to be much of a threat at that point and I think she still had plans for them. Because really there's no way Voyager could have escaped their first encounter with the tactical cube if the Queen had really wanted them destroyed or captured.
@@darongw I've also thought this too since the Queen always had a weird obsession with 7 of 9. Would she really want her killed?
ST: Voyager de-fanged the Borg, more and more with every Borg encounter. Well, ST: TNG did that with episodes after their initial meeting but they just did that to stop the Borg from being utterly unstoppable... making them go from beatable to just a *nearly* unbeatable cube against one ship is a hell of a downgrade.

@@AdmiralStilesSciFiGaming I'm not disagreeing. That's another part of how the Borg are de-fanged... the Queen picking a favorite. The Queen can make another 7 of 9 if she wished, just download her pre-separation mind (copy of it) into another drone. That would be a Borg thing to do. What the Borg became is quite... Romulan, but without the ability to be as cold as a machine when it comes to sacrificing assets. Every aspect of the modern Borg is kind of a pathetic shadow of what they were originally created to be. In my opinion, when they went from a collective to a hive mind centered on a Queen, that was the final nail in the coffin. ST: VOY just finished them off.

I loved the tactical cube. I also thought it absolutely ridiculous that the plan was to allow arguably 3 of the most important members of the voyager crew to be assimilated. Then when it works, they somehow retain NONE of the massive amount of information they should have had!
To be fair only tuvok was actually connected to the hive mind. The others had suppressors so as to not be connected

The idea of more platonic solids for Borg structure would be pretty cool, and I always felt we didn't more math and topology stuff , with structural folding of their ships

The Tactical Cube is cool and all, but I really wanted to see smaller, pyramidal swarm ships that combine into an armored Icosahedron! (20-sided cube) Now THAT would be cool to see. 😁🤣

The tactical cube made perfect sense to me. It is in my opinion perfectly borg! They have taken an already powerful yet existing design and just optimised it for combat and tanking. Very efficient 🤣🤣

There are races with way more powerfull weaponry than Federation's. Voth or Bethans. So having more armored cube as response is giving sense, while cheaper(dronehours) cubes serving as expendable scout ships.

We see it one more time. One almost hits Voyage when it's in the nebula with the transwarp hub.
I think since the Borg first appeared with a cube ship they were already "breaking" stereotypical ship desines...so...I think they be of any polygonal or geometric shape...we already have the sphere, and there was that misfit Borg Ship that was atypical of any geometric or polygonal shape...so any shape would work in my book...besides, the Borg may need a specialized design and shape to travel more effectively in fluidity space so they can invade Species 8472...the Borg are an amalgamation of flesh and machine...their Ships could easily reflect that as well...I think the next iteration of the Borg should show their ships in different shape designs to indicate advancement...if they did go "Nat20" in shape then that could indicate great improvement in offensive and defensive capabilities as well as improvements in propulsion and shields also in their rapid repair capabilities...regenerative ablative shields would be quite useful when tied in with double the repair speed or halve the repair time and efficiency...more "faces" in the shape could enhance weapon arcs and emplacements...the Borg have the best potential for ship designs that will be more Organic in appearance...and also be quite mechanical...bring designs that reflect their assimilation of the many species...since they keep saying they will add the distinctiveness of the races they assimilate...the ships, I think, should look like they literally added their technology both internal and external...another amalgamation that would be more similar in construction to themselves that would lend to the interesting various shapes according to resources...the ships should look more Borg...the ships would be amalgamations instead of specific design standards...that would make them appear much more Barbaric...because they Are Barbaric...
There was also the Octahedron ship the Queen used. It was only marginally larger than a Sphere.

I'm like the biggest fan and when I first saw that tactical cube I was like "freakin Aye mate!" that was like 20 years ago I like to draw my own concepts of borg tactical vessels. I want to host this show! I love star trek and know everything about the show. Can I send you my resumé?

Just one question remains: What stopps a ship from aiming between the armor plates?
Tldr: engineers designing ships for our universe with the show dumbing down combat to be considered cool and flashy
Speed, manoverability, and range? Likely electronic warfare. Trek was designed way ahead of it's time and set the rules for the universe before we started theorizing actual orbital combat.
Consider the safety box around the iss? I think I read somewhere that any object approaching within 14,000 meters (I'm unsure of this number) is considered a imminent collision and requires the station to manover out of the way.
So I read in a book that 50,000 meters distance would be considered close combat and suicidal with combat mostly being experienced within 300,000 meters using guided munitions.
Phasors and disruptors would be too slow as the light you are seeing of the other ship would be seconds if not a minute of old data... Combat in space would more be like a 3D version of battleship where you are guessing where the enemy is going to make a hit that makes for very slow (boring to some) combat scenes more remisent of submarine vs fleet combat then anything else.
Pretty hard to fit "spaceship porn" on the tv screen with combat taking place at those ranges. Then you factor in that Star Trek doesn't really get into orbital mechanics other then occasionally saying geosencrinous orbit. Attacks would take place in a tenth of a second if that. Then waiting for hours or days or sometimes weeks as they try to manover into a more advantageous orbital plane, lots of waiting only to be vaperised in a tenth of a second for a single mistake. The ships would be passing each other at orbital speeds in something resembling boom and zoom.
Sorry gotta keep going I find this topic so fascinating. The old adage that if you see it you can hit it doesn't work at these distances. You are dealing with the speed of light. At the distances we are talking about a puff of thrust from the enemy ship could be the difference of thousands of meters off your target.

I personally would love to see a Q series where John de Lancie just goes through every BS Ex-Machina plothole like star trek's personal Cinemasins and just fixes them all. Complete with sin counts.
The "tactical cube" was always a frustrating invention of Voyager - it suggested specialization for Borg ships when they were supposed to be philosophically decentralized and uniform.
That just isn't true TNG established that Borg Ships are cubes and also spheres and whatever shape Hugh's ship was. This was long before Voyager ever aired. Borg vessels have always been a centralized group think collective. The borg queen just became a hub for all information the borg collective takes in but, she is under the control of the hive as well. The queen also is solely does all the research the borg does. They even made Locutus special within the collective during their first encounter as he processes information like the queen. "We are the Borg" completely centralized.

The Borg can have whatever shapes necessary, but a specialized cube that is bigger and badder than a standard one just defies the design aesthetic. (It makes sense in some respects, as the Borg do not have infinite resources, but it just doesn't fit.)
@@bjorn00000 It fits fine. A tactical cube would be necessary against civilizations with a lot of hardened armor technology. Borg Spheres serve as larger scout ships, The borg queens interface ship and When I mentioned Hugh's ship it reminds me of the probe ship from Voy. that was about the same size and firepower as an Intrepid.
@@xineohpinakc264 We know next to nothing about Hugh's ship, including its shape. The only thing that TNG (including First Contact) suggested was that there would be different sizes and later shapes but they would still be decentralized and serve the same functions (just at larger or smaller scales). As I said at the top, anything more than that was just a stupid Voyager invention.

@@TrekCentral but if you listen in a couple of the other episodes you hear one of the Admirals claim it was a tactical cube and if you look at the background of the wolf 359 episode you see at least 2 cubes in the background being attacked
A borg cube is what nearly single-handedly defeated a Dominion War-era fleet of Federation warships. A tactical cube is what the Borg build when they're serious about fighting and in a single engagement with an Intrepid-class starship it's the suped up borg warship that is limping away repairing it's engines. Oh, Voyager...
Voyager (intrepid class) isn't even a tactical ship. It's a science vessel
@@bjornjoseph eh, I would argue it's a combat vessel that doubles as a science vessel, similar to many other post dominion war era federation ships like the sovereign-class. But we might be splitting hairs.

The federation should build a maga ship or two to dwarf the bird ship, with a generation family like with thousands of crew and hundreds of phaser cannons and photon torpedos 10 warp cores and 4 slipstream drives. Inter galactic capable. Self sustaining.

Little known fact; in endgame, the janeways' plan didn't do anything. It was one borg d20 already in the network that rolled a 1 when trying to exit the network. Talk about lucky timing.
