    One evening in the late 70's, I remember as a child driving with my parents along the West Side Highway and seeing a 150 cut it's landing light and fly under the George Washington Bridge. Not recommended, but certainly left an impression.

      In the 70's and 80's you could mostly get by with that type of stuff. Lots of high profile crashes got a lot of attention on GA into the 90's, and then in 2001 we had 9/11

    Nate C. It’s about 30-40 mins in a 172 or PA28, from the alpine tower to the VZ, and back in the exclusion route below 1,299’, depending on airspeed and how many orbits around “The Lady” you do :).

    Is it possible to land on the Hudson River by seaplane, for example in the Riverside Park area, to pick up passengers?

      Evers Seaplane Base - 6N6
      Sands Point - 7N3
      New York Skyports Inc Seaplane Base - 6N7
      All of those are seaplane bases, with the last one probably being the most central. Technically it's on the East River and not the Hudson, but that's as close as you're going to get. There's also a couple more seaplane bases in the Hackensack River a couple miles west and parallel to the Hudson.
      I'm not an aviation attorney or CFI, so I can't provide a direct answer on if you could just land in the Hudson anywhere, but the public use seaplane bases should be fair game assuming you follow all regulations pertaining to landing/departing from them.

    It would be neat if a conventional looking plane was watertight and could set down on water without much design compromise. Without floats. Really add to the freedom and make remote areas accessible. As well as good for emergency landing on long ocean flights. Maybe retractable hydrofoils.

      You mean like a Grumman G44 Widgeon? Or on the smaller, personal-size side, the modern Progressive Aerodyne Searey?
      There is a ton of design compromise, though, and there always will be. Ocean landings aren't practical unless it's super calm water, which is rare in the open ocean. Even to land in calm water the structure of the plane has to be considerably stronger, which means more weight.

      @@ParadigmUnkn0wn definitely not the grumman, it looks 1929. The progressive is also very type specific. I was thinking the teardrop body of a glider with glider wings and little flaps/foils that come out as gear to create the necessary water deflecting edges. And sure the ocean can be wild but even in an emergency it's very nice that you can ditch on the ocean and it is watertight rather than sink in the frigid atlantic. Nice and comfy with starlink internet instead of titanic dead.

    Just be careful with your use of the word "between". While you can fly at 1000 ft msl, you can't fly at 1300ft msl.
