Hudson River Skyline Route

  • I grew up in New York. I left the city for college when I was 17 and only returned for visits. I know there are plenty of these out there but the chance to fly up the Hudson was special for me. Although ATC audio is included this is intended more for my friends and family than a "how to" for pilots.
Edited for time and (hopefully) entertainment.

Great video. Brings back memories. As a kid I sat near the Belt Parkway and watched the jets on approach. And I can still remember the rumble of the Concorde taking off.

Nice Video job, Mark, well done The view of the Battery coming north from the VZB is the best. That flight never fails to give me goosebumps, coming home to HPN, especially at dusk with the lights coming on. Kudos too on not using "K" in giving the BDL identifier! (Scott in cognito)

I was going to try for a usable Sinatra "New York New York" cover but figured, heck, everybody does that! Jan suggested "State of Mind." I found this and fell in love with it.

Puts me in a New York sate of mind, following the Hudson River line.

Thanks for the ride along! great view, good tunes. A bucket list item I have yet to cross off, one of these days.

It was a real treat. Glad I had video. Between having to keep track of position and the almost constant communications, I wasn't able to sightsee that much in flight.

BTW, I'd love to see your Commander some time. One of the piston singles I've never been in.

@@midlifeflyer I’m not sure where you are based. Would like to catch up some time. The right seat is usually open when I fly, unless my bride is with me. ;)

@@GMascelli I'm in the Raleigh area. Fly out of TTA (and some of the others from time to time)

Great video, thank you for sharing. I did the southern route about 6 days after your trip. Do you prefer the Skyline Route versus the Hudson Corridor VFR route?

It was my first time so it's hard to compare. I was alone with no extra set of eyes to help watch for reporting points. So overall, Skyline with ATC seemed a better choice than self reporting just a few hundred feet below.
