      The teaching of the Second Vatican Council is that the Church of Christ subsists in the Catholic Church. Since we recognize the baptism of Protestants and Orthodox as valid, and baptism makes one part of the one body of Church, The Church, by its very nature must extend beyond the institution of the Catholic Church.
      This is where Fr. Fienney, was wrong. And the Magisterium has ruled against his understanding.

      @@michaelspeyrer1264 Vatican II was heretical and schismatic, so no, the Church does not extend beyond the Catholic Church.

      @@norbertx9415 Nope, that it is itself heretical and schismatic according to the teaching of Vatican I.
      You are not Catholic. Feenyism was condemned as heresy way before Vatican II. Feeney was excommunicated. The St. Benedict Center has no association with the the local Church or the Universal Catholic Church.
      At every level your understanding has been anathematized.

    It seems to be insidious. Once the Church abandons this dogma, extra ecclasiam nulla salus, not only do people abandon the Church & no longer seek to spread Her message, but many of those who remain begin to cobble together an "a la carte Catholicism". I see this frequently on Catholic dating sites. People will say, "I'm Catholic, but I don't subscribe to Church doctrine on pre-marital sex, or the sanctity of life." Or I'll see, "I'm Catholic, but I don't believe in the Immaculate Conception."
    I'm only recently baptized & confirmed, (5 weeks now), but I don't think I have the privilege of choosing to which of God's words I will listen. I am not the law-giver or the judge. I am the servant. The Master tells me how to proceed & it is my duty to obey. Maybe I'm over-simplifying it because I'm very young in the faith.

    Feeney actually ridiculed the text of Pius IX and charged Pius IX with the heresy of Pelagianism, saying (in Thomas M. Sennott, They Fought the Good Fight, Catholic Treasures, Monrovia CA. 1987, pp. 305-06): "To say that God would never permit anyone to be punished eternally unless he had incurred the guilt of voluntary sin is nothing short of Pelagianism... . If God cannot punish eternally a human being who has not incurred the guilt of voluntary sin, how then, for example can He punish eternally babies who die unbaptized?"
    This is his quote. It's very tragic. According to ewtn, he believed anyone who is not an official member of the church goes to hell. Even unbabtised babies.

    • @m-hayek1985
      @m-hayek1985 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Unbaptized babies go to limbo as they lack explicit faith in the essential mysteries and have original sin. As for unbaptized catechumens, I believe baptism of desire may apply to them. (They still would be saved inside the church as a Catholic). I sympathize with Feeney but he probably made a minor error in rejecting BOD in every case.

      SM I don’t claim to be an expert but the council of Trent seems to teach baptism of desire for zealous catechumens (“baptism or a desire for it”) quote. Ironically sedevancists are some of the most anti Fr Feeney people about there.

    • @m-hayek1985
      @m-hayek1985 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SM don’t get me wrong, I admire Fr Feeney but I need to follow the council of Trents teaching on BOD for those with explicit faith who die unbaptized.

    • @m-hayek1985
      @m-hayek1985 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      SM deceased non Catholics cannot be saved. BOD is a real possibility for those catechumens with explicit faith in Christ. That’s the traditional teaching according to the traditional priests I know.

    Can we dogmatically say that all persons who, having reached the age of reason, die outside the Catholic Church go to hell? It would seem to be the logical conclusion if the dogma extra ecclesiam is to be understood in its literal and unqualified expression. Can anyone recommend a trustworthy book on the topic? I have many questions and unresolved difficulties pertaining to the dogma which are not, understandably, addressed in this presentation.
